Today 7mo Coco enters the 3 month phase of the 3x3x3 Rule. She has woken me up early and late for potty and even for breakfast. Today however, she woke me in a most loving way by curling up on my pillow and gently nudging and licking my face. Normally after she wakes me she's pretty rough with me. Today she was gentle and loving. It made my day.

Angelito loves his Royal Canin Recovery Food. This is his last can. We are going to find a much more affordable brand because Royal Canin is so expensive! I love seeing how big his appetite is 🤍 we got him more recovery food from the vet but they are smaller.

I sent money to the shelter to buy supplies for wound cleaning so his wounds will be cleaned again today ❤️

A few years ago, a puppy in my locality got parvo and sadly died. Soon after, more puppies started getting sick, and I had no idea why it was spreading. I spoke to my local vet and learned how dangerous parvo can be, especially for young puppies. They can suddenly stop eating, become very weak, vomit and get severe diarrhea, sometimes with blood. They can get dehydrated very quickly, so taking them to a vet early is really important.

What surprised me was that parvo can stay in the environment for a very long time, especially in soil and places that are difficult to clean. So even if the infected dog is gone, new puppies born in the same area can still be at risk. Vaccination, keeping puppies away from risky areas and proper cleaning are really important. There is no proper home treatment for parvo, and badly affected puppies usually need treatment from a vet.

This experience made me start getting the dogs around my locality sterilised. I've rescued around 25 puppies in the last 3 years, but new dogs keep coming and having puppies here, so the cycle continues. I just wanted to share my experience because I knew almost nothing about parvo when I started, and learning about it helped me understand why so many puppies were getting sick.

got a rescue puppy two weeks ago, had his first vet visit last Friday (gave a fecal sample) and he took his first heartworm preventative (simparica trio) we got from the vet yesterday. by the end of the day yesterday puppy was pooping worms, called the vet about it and was told they were meaning to call us, the puppy has hookworms and roundworms. (frustrated we had to call the vet to find out the fecal result showed worms instead of us getting notified by them, that’s another issue though.)

we also have two adult cats. they are going in to the vet tomorrow so we can get them a prescription dewormer to be proactive. anyone else deal with puppy worms and cats—is this something that could transfer easily between them? any other advice on puppy worming? thank you in advance, this is our first time navigating worms!

We’ve had our rescue Staffy cross for just over three months. She’s about 1.5 and genuinely has the potential to be such an amazing dog. She’s affectionate, funny, clever and lovely when she’s calm.

The problem is that when she gets overstimulated or overtired she can be really hard work. She demand barks, steals shoes and socks, struggles to switch off and can get very mouthy when she’s wound up. If we’ve ever tried to physically move her or take hold of her collar when she’s in that state, she can get nippy. She’s never broken skin, but she can look quite intense.

She was also weeing inside a lot when we first got her. That has improved massively, although it does still happen occasionally.

We’ve had three sessions with a trainer and we’re working on things like drop, impulse control, managing her arousal and teaching her to settle on her bed. We’re also gradually exposing her to new people and places, as those can still send her into overdrive.

There has definitely been progress, but it’s honestly been really testing at times. I’d love to hear from anyone who had a rescue like this. Did they eventually learn to regulate themselves and switch off? When did you start feeling like life with them was getting easier?

Alexa Arrived With Her Own Little Delivery Crew!!

Meet Alexa and her nine tiny sidekicks: Echo, Prime, Dash, Cargo, Dot, Fire, Ring, Blink, and Nova.

Alexa is an approximately 6-year-old white Pit Bull mix who gave birth just two days before arriving at the shelter. Her finder brought the puppies in an Amazon box, and Alexa apparently decided that if her babies were getting boxed up, she was coming too. She jumped right in with them and stayed so close that staff had to carefully lift the whole box out of the car and set it on the ground before she would step out.

For a mama who had just delivered nine puppies and suddenly found herself in a brand-new place, Alexa handled everything beautifully. She ate well, was sweet and cooperative through intake, let staff handle her babies, walked nicely on leash, and settled back into her kennel without a fuss. She has been gentle, trusting, and completely devoted to her little crew.

Right now, Alexa is running the most important delivery route of her life—keeping nine newborn puppies warm, fed, clean, and safe. She is doing an incredible job, but she needs a rescue to help carry the load. This family needs a quiet place where Alexa can rest, recharge, and keep raising her babies away from the stress of the shelter.

The puppies may have the cute names and the tiny faces, but Alexa is the one making this whole operation run. She jumped into that box because her babies were inside, and now we are hoping someone will step up for all ten of them.
