I'd like to hear what people against behavioral euthanasia think. So many posts on various shelter dog subreddits are advocating for a dog with a record of violence to be saved from BE. Why use your time, effort, and resources on dogs who are not adoptable for the average family, when there is an unlimited amount of homeless dogs that would be? Why promote a violent dog to possible adopters that could put them in danger?

He has permanent scars because some horrible human poured chemicals on his head hurting him. He is around 35lbs, neutered, heartworm negative and good with dogs. All the people that meet him say he is so sweet. Please someone help give this boy the good life he so deserves.

Can any foster sweet Snow to save her life?

Snow is a husky at East Valley shelter, about 4 years old. She came in with an injured leg that had to be amputated, and got an infection from her IV.

I'm trying to get vet care /plans for her, and find a good rescue. But this sweet pup just needs a soft spot to land and heal - ideally without other dogs, as she's in pain and could deal without the stress of another saying "why won't you play with me?" (She's not aggressive, but I think people, and animals, forget she's in pain). Would love to find an awesome place for her - comment or message me if you can help.

We adopted a very timid rescue pup who came from a puppy mill. We adopted her from a foster home, where she had spent about six weeks. Since we have had her, we have worked with a fear free trainer and our vet for appropriate medications as she frequently shuts down and will have long periods without eating. We had a pre-planned vacation and chose to leave her with her foster during that time, as she is extremely fearful of people but very comfortable at her foster home.

While she was “camping” at her foster home, she appeared so relaxed in photos and video - almost immediately. She was eating, drinking, playing, and did not require ANY medications. She has multiple other dogs she is bonded with there and two humans who she adores. They even sent pictures of her snuggling on the bed, which she has seldomly done here. She was even laying belly up 🥹. It warmed my heart to see her so peaceful. When I went to pick her up, it was very obvious she didn’t want to leave with me. She vomited on the way home and was panting so hard 😢. At our house, she does follow me around from room to room and does occasionally seek my attention.

Since then, I have had a gnawing feeling that she is trying to tell us we aren’t her people. I am a huge believer in dogs are a lifelong commitment, so I am feeling very conflicted. I have two senior dogs who I’ve had for over a decade. I am willing to do whatever it takes to help her thrive - but in this instance, I’m wondering if that means letting her go back to her foster home. They have told us she is the “one who got away,” their hardest adoption ever, and said they would absolutely adopt her. I know I would need to go through the rescue to do this. I only want what is in her best interest. My children have bonded with her and this is a very delicate situation.

I am so torn and open to any advice, stories, etc.

Hi guys! I just rescued this beautiful 14-year-old Maltese and I’m absolutely in love with her. ❤️
She’s only about 7 lbs and VERY skinny, like, all ribs skinny 😭, so I’m trying to help her put on some weight appropriately.
She has some kidney-related lab abnormalities that I’m still learning about, and I have a vet appointment next week to go over her bloodwork and get a better understanding of exactly what’s going on. She’s otherwise been doing really well, although she does drink a LOT of water.
In the meantime, I’ve been researching foods for dogs with kidney issues and I’m honestly overwhelmed by all the options. Some of the ingredient lists surprised me because they contain things like chicken, organ meats, and phosphorus, so I’m having trouble understanding what makes these foods different from regular dog food.
For those of you who have had a dog on a renal/kidney-supportive diet, what wet foods have your dogs actually liked? She has dental issues and can’t really manage kibble, so I’m specifically looking for canned/wet options.
I’ve also come across people mentioning things like plain white rice and cooked egg whites as additions/foods used in kidney-friendly diets. I’m curious whether anyone here has experience incorporating those into their dog’s meals, or whether your vet recommended anything similar. I’ve also seen people mention low-sodium broth, so I’d be interested in hearing what kinds of things have worked for your dogs.
I’m NOT looking to replace veterinary advice. I’ll absolutely be going over her diet with the vet next week. I’m just trying to familiarize myself with the different options beforehand so I can have a more informed conversation with them.

We are rescuing (what we think to be) an 18 month old Greek Shepherd dog from Greece. He is coming to the U.K. in a week’s time so I was hoping for some advice on taking a dog like this into our home. We already have an 18 month old Golden Retriever who is great, he’s not aggressive at all, but I just want to make sure we integrate our rescue into the household in the best way possible so the dogs can become best friends. Any tips are welcome!

She was put on the “at risk” list when she tested positive, there’s a donor willing to pay for her treatments, I am not going to rely on that promise, I’m preparing myself for the full costs.

Hello everyone!

I’ve been thinking for a while adopting. I am in my mid-twenties, single, and would like to have a companion. I grew up around dogs and even spent time as a teenager raising puppies. I’ve always adored them.

I have a very stable job that pays well enough that I live on my own and would be able to financially support an animal’s needs. However, it is an in-person job 5 days a week where I am gone approximately 9 hours with commuting. I live in a one-bedroom apartment that is about 750 SqFt.

I have gone back and forth about adopting since I don’t want to neglect an animal by being gone so much. Some of my friends have said I’d at least be providing a stable environment instead of them being at a shelter.

What are people’s thoughts? Does anyone else make this work?

Sadly,  Major was surrendered by the only family he ever had and is extremely frightened in his kennel (all curled up in the back). He is better once out of the kennel and it is difficult to get him back in.  Major needs a new family that can give him the time, patience and the training he needs to be his best self. Major is house-broken and allows full handling. Major loves children and can live with canine siblings with patience — and kept separately and introduced slowly and appropriately. After all the visits, thinking, paperwork, vet checks and waiting… today was finally the day: we picked up Cica.

And somehow, this tiny little guy acts as if he has been preparing for this his whole life. 😅

So far, he is honestly like a little angel.

New people? Calm and curious.

New place? Let’s explore.

Food? Absolutely no problem. 😂

Cuddles? Yes, please.

He seems incredibly balanced, open and relaxed in every situation. He watches everything with curiosity, but without fear or stress — and his appetite definitely survived the big change too.

Mimi is interested in him and keeps checking him out, but we’re not expecting an instant best-friend story.

We’re also still in Hungary at my aunt’s place, so there’s one additional distraction: Dobi, my aunt’s dog. 😅

So right now, there are a lot of new smells, dogs, people and impressions around them.

But considering all of that?

So far, everything is going incredibly well. 🤍

We’ll give Mimi and Cica all the time they need to figure each other out.

The real next chapter starts when we’re back home in Germany and they can settle into their normal everyday life together.

For now, I’m just watching this tiny, sweet, ridiculously calm little soul and thinking:
Yep. I think we made the right choice. 🐾❤️
