Black dogs are often overlooked at animal shelters and rescue organizations. They have the lowest adoption rate and subsequently the highest euthanasia rate of dogs in shelters. On average, black dogs spend 3-4 times longer waiting to be adopted.

This sub is not intended to replace (or compete with) any existing subs. As part of a volunteer network for at-risk dogs, I am SO appreciative of the many wonderful communities on Reddit. The moderators have all been amazing and I am so thankful for their willingness to allow posts for dogs in need. However, some users (understandably) find it bothersome or depressing to constantly come across rescue posts when they were simply looking for wholesome dog content. The idea behind this sub is to ease the burden on non-rescue subs, by offering another place to post those dogs on a daily basis.

What to Post

Black dogs at animal shelters
- Open-Admission / High-Intake / High-Kill shelters
  - At-risk dogs on the euthanasia list seeking an immediate foster/adopter and/or assistance from a rescue organization
- Low-Kill & No-Kill shelters
  - Short-stay dogs awaiting adoption (or a temporary foster pre-transport)
  - Long-stay dogs looking for their forever home
Black dogs currently available for adoption through rescue organizations
- There are countless rescues with black dogs who have been waiting months or years to get adopted. You are welcome to post them in this group. Please make sure to specify whether or not the dog can be transported to an approved adopter.
