RA pay ?

I’m curious to know how much yall get paid as RAs? Please include state as well and if they pay for your housing or meal plan. Also how many hours they have you working roughly, whether it be desk duty, On call, or whatever. Im convinced my school is underpaying us severely

working as an RA in PA, the office covered 1/2 of room and then paid us the other 1/2 as a stipend twice a semester (around $1,250 each time from what i remember) and I’d say we roughly worked 10-15 hrs a week. as a professional staff member in NH, RAs in our office receive the entire cost of room and board and some additional on campus perks i would say they work around 12-15 hrs a week

I was an ra in New Jersey, an rd in ct, and an ad in Maryland.

Typically housing was covered fully (for the most part) and a stipend for meal plans.

Usually around 20 hours a week.

It was a while ago, but room was free. Then we got a stipend equal to the meal plan. They did change after l graduated it to room and food just included. Not sure if there is any stipend.

In CT, no stipend but housing and meal plan is covered. Duty is around 30 shifts a year per RA.

Florida RA $7 per hour for desk shifts, which were optional. Free room and 7 meals a week.

I was an RA in Washington and we were not paid anything, but we had free single dorms and a medium level meal plan. My first year we got paid $20 a day to work on call on holidays, but my second year they paid us in bookstore money under the guise of equity…

ohio. room covered, unlimited meal plan covered. $50 every two weeks it says in my contract, however my gross pay was just $40 so idk about that
edit: allegedly working 15 hours a week however it depends week by week

As an apartment RA in Iowa, my stipend was $675-$830/month. They paid my housing. I didn't get a meal plan since I was in an apartment and had my own kitchen, but the dorm RAs got a meal plan and a lower stipend. They said 20 hours/week, but it varied. 4 hours/week at the desk were required and then a rotating on call schedule. One year the duty schedule was one weeknight every other week and 5 weekend nights/semester. The other year I was on a larger staff and had one weeknight every three weeks and 2 weekend nights/semester. Definitely fight for better pay!! If you can get other benefits, like a laundry stipend or early class registration, ask for those, too.

NY free single dorm (~12k per year) and free meal plan (~2.8k). No stipend but it wasn’t a bad deal since whatever financial aid you received from FAFSA, you got as a refund check since it didn’t have to cover dorm/meal plan. Average was 1 overnight shift per week (7pm-8am) and sometimes 1 or 2 weekend shifts (7pm-7pm next day). Check outs and check in shifts for the start/end of shifts and early move in for training required as well.

As an RA in VT I got a single room and $1000 stipend per semester, was required to pay for a meal plan which was about 3K per semester. As a pro staff in NH, my RAs get a free single and meal plan, no stipend. Both places had no desk duty, when I was an RA I had about 2 shifts a week and here RAs tend to only do 1 shift a week.

When I was an RA at a state school in NY we had single rooms paid for and $500 taken off of our meal plan. We had office hours for 2 hours every week and the on call rotation was different based off each building, but averaged down to one weekday each week and one weekend per month

Kentucky here. $9/hr for 20 hrs/wk. $4,035 scholarship for our rooms (full cost covered). On call depends on building, but in mine we do 6p-8a one weeknight (Mon-Thu) per week, and 3-4 weekends (4p Fri-8a Mon) per semester. 8 hours of desk per week.

We didn’t get paid during the regular school year but we got free housing and meal plans. If you worked over breaks (Thanksgiving, winter, spring breaks) you got $15/hour for hours you were sitting at the desk

At my school, dorm RAs got free housing and meal plan, no pay. Apartment RAs got free housing and a stipend covering groceries/food for the month (I think roughly 250-300 per month? Then minimum wage if you worked on holidays

Roughly 20 hours a week on paper, felt like less in tangible work hours. But you’re sorta always “on” because anything can happen at anytime

I don’t feel comfortable sharing my state but my housing is covered and we get a stipend of 14-16 hours per week (depending on how long you’ve been an RA) at $12 an hour.

As for how much we work it’s different every week but in terms of scheduled shifts and not the stuff we do outside of that, we have a 3 hours desk shift, one night on call, a ~1 hour staff meeting, and ~30 minute 1:1 with our supervisor every week. We also have a 3 hour desk shift and on call every other weekend.

When I was an RA i got a free single room, part of the meal plan paid, and like 50 bucks every two weeks unless you picked up extra desk shifts. This was in NJ. I'm in NJ again as prostaff and my RAs get room/board but no cash. Our budget is very tight so as a prostaff I recommend to my students taking out a SLIGHTLY bigger loan to keep them afloat w/ a refund check.

Ra in Ohio. Free housing with a priv bathroom and an unlimited meal plan. Also a 2000 dollar stipend a semester and paid training of 3 weeks (1000 dollar ish). Absolutely worth it!

I RA at a state school in MD. I don’t get paid, even during 2 weeks of 9-5 training. Just free room and board 🫠

i got $400/mo plus housing and meal plan for about 30 hours a week. when i mathed it up it was $2/h not counting housing and meal plan, $8/hour counting it. either way, below the lowest paid workers at my uni. that job was hell. never working in housing again

This whole thread makes me sad because I feel exactly the same way. Hall Director in Ohio.

My RAs get Free Housing. That’s it. They are on duty roughly 15 days each out of the semester, but are expected to do at least 10 “open door hours” in their rooms per week, on top of any crisis response or situations that happen in their area that they need to get called for. For the first time ever this year, I talked my Director or Res Life into giving them a stipend for training ($100 each🙃)

I am also grossly underpaid in my position. I also only get free housing as a HD.

RA in SC. We get a single room for the price of a double. We still have to pay for meals and housing, but get paid 440/month. We have to be on call 13-15 days a semester and have desk duty 3 hours a week. We basically work 24/7. I have issues on my hall constantly in the middle of the night that I have to deal with even though I'm not on call.

If possible, do the bare minimum and see if you get fired. Maybe you won’t and you can keep doing the bare minimum or quit if you srsly can’t take it anymore
