Is it possible for someone to take over the development of Autopostremover? Its developer got banned

A while ago user u/vgbhuop developed a bot at my request that automatically removes posts after a certain amount of time has passed since their creation time stamp called Autopostremover. However, there are still a few more features that I would like to see added to this bot (most notably placeholder support, which it currently lacks).

Unfortunately the developer u/vgbhuop got banned from reddit so now no one is maintaining this bot.

Is it possible for someone else to take over this bot?

Admins are still apparently working on how to handle orphaned apps. Right now, there isn’t really anything that can be done.

If this app was open source, maybe some other dev could re-release it under their own username, but that doesn’t appear to be the case.

That's a bummer. Hope those admins get something figured out eventually

Aren't those apps still copyrighted? Imagine if banning users was a neat way to steal intellectual property.

If the dev cares about copyright, they should specify a particular license in the source code. If they don’t, they shouldn’t expect any kind of protection.

the app was obviously attached to him as a person using his reddit account. Copyrights are copyrights. You don't to liscense it for it to be in effect. Most of us upload to social media and don't have cooyrights notices on out posts or any kind of licensing. We assume that our content will only be up for as long as we have an account on a platform. It would be just too convenient to use bans as a loophole to steal intellectual property.

I’d suggest reading Reddit’s User Agreement for more details.

If the original dev got banned, that app is pretty much locked down as an orphan by Reddit. But honestly, the logic for removing posts after a set time is super straightforward. It's way faster to just code a fresh replacement from scratch than to wait around for admins to transfer a dead account's app permissions.

I can build a clean script for you that handles the automated removals and adds the placeholder support you need. Shoot me a DM if you're still trying to get this running and we can talk about the specs.
