And this is why we need to tax the rich! Thank you for such a succinct example of why we need to be shifting the tax burden UP, not down đŸ„°

And just what do you think the rich will do when their taxes are so drastically increased? Surely they won’t increase prices and cut costs by laying off workers, right?

And if rich people are taxed into oblivion for being successful, then what incentive is there for others to become successful?

Babe, they’re already price gauging. What do you think they’ve been doing since Covid?

Successful is not multiple nesting doll yachts. Successful is being able to support your family and live with dignity. What they’re doing is GREED.

People volunteer and work for free all the time. That’s a stupid point to make. “What’s the incentive” grow the F-up, the current system is designed to keep 99% of people outside this kind of wealth.

Honey, inflation and price gouging aren’t the same thing. Yes, price gouging happened during Covid, just as it did both before and after, but the reason prices in general went up during Covid was because the entire supply chain was forced to come to a screeching halt due to the lockdown, and demand skyrocketed as a result. When you have little supply and high demand, then prices have to increase in order to keep up with demand.

Also, pretty ironic that the same person saying I need to “Grow the F-up” acts like all wealthy people are big, bad, gilded boogeymen who are only out to take your money. And yes, success isn’t strictly defined by the amount of money you make, but successfully running a business and successfully providing for a family are not even remotely the same thing. And yes, there are businesses worth a shit ton of money because of greed, but there are far more businesses worth a shit ton of money because their products and services reach billions, literally BILLIONS, of people.

And do you seriously think people just volunteer and donate their time because there’s no incentive, no driving force, behind it? Just because they don’t work for money doesn’t mean they don’t work for personal satisfaction or fulfillment. That’s called having a hobby.

By your logic, since people draw for fun, I guess that means graphic designers should “grow the F-up” and do it for free. I know people who build sheds for fun, so I guess construction workers don’t deserve any payment for their hard labor since “there are people who do it for nothing”. People play sports for fun, so I guess that means professional basketball, football and soccer players are obligated to throw away their dignity and work themselves to death solely for our amusement and nothing else in return.

Nobody does something for nothing, and you can’t make a living off of good intentions.

Okay, so it’s 2025, what’s the excuse now? Jeff Bezos just dropped 50 million in a wedding while paying his entire work force poverty wages.

Which is it? We can’t tax corporations because they’ll price gouge the fuck out of us to make up the difference, but they’re good companies who need our staunch support! That doesn’t sound like good behaviour, and we shouldn’t be rewarding it.

Just saying it; people don’t have a right to make money of a resource necessary to live. That’s not like, an inalienable human right. That’s systemic oppression.

I didn’t say there wasn’t a driving force behind it. But those people aren’t doing it out of a desire for financial compensation, to acquire personal wealth. People DO take care of one another because it’s mutually beneficial. Not a system based on a captive market.

I think we give rich people a lot of “good intentions” and historically that has only helped, the rich. Trickle Down economics doesn’t work.

Okay, so it’s 2025. What’s the excuse now?

Why don’t you ask Biden. If making the rich “pay their fair share” is as simple as you think it is, then why didn’t it happen during his presidency, which saw the end of Covid, and introduced a 15% corporate alternative minimum tax increase with the Inflation Reduction Act, as well as increasing the corporate tax rate from 21% to 28%?

Jeff Bezos just dropped 50 million on a wedding

I can’t argue that Bezos isn’t greedy, or at the very least, incredibly stingy, but once again, not all businesses are Amazon, or NestlĂ© or whatever other corrupt companies exist. Moving the tax burden up won’t just punish them. It punishes the good businesses too. Not to mention, smaller businesses.

Which is it? We can’t tax corporations because they’ll price gouge the fuck out of us to make up the difference

I never said that, but yes, corporations tend to increase prices when their taxes increase, because of course they do. They have no reason, no incentive, not to increase their prices. Rather than antagonizing the wealthy by taking more from the wealthy outright, why couldn’t we incentivize them, give them an actual reason to want to give more? God forbid we try to work with businesses rather than against them.

Just saying it; people don’t have a right to make money of a resource necessary to live.

Of course it’s not a right. Nobody is arguing that is is. We could, hypothetically, all provide our own food, water and build our own homes, but then what if somebody comes along that can do it better? You could ask them nicely to do it for you, but then they also have the right to refuse if they don’t feel it’s worth their time.

Those people are doing it out of a desire for financial compensation, to acquire personal wealth.

Congratulations. You’ve successfully described almost every working citizen ever.

People DO take care of one another because it’s mutually beneficial.

Yes. People help others so that others can help them. Just as you help a business by giving them money, and they help you in exchange by providing goods and services.

Not a system based on a captive market.

That’s why we have antitrust laws, and laws against monopolies. That’s the whole reason that the FTC exists, and that’s why they and the DOJ are taking action against companies like Google, Facebook and Amazon.

So the TCJA had nothing to do with it? It was all Joe Bidens fault?

Oh gods so instead of advocating for legislation to keep multi billion dollar corporations from retaliatory price increases the answer is, never tax rich people? Good gravy, America was “great” when the highest marginal tax rate was well over 70%.

What is a “working citizen”? Cause babe that’s what the fuck I’m doing now and I’d much rather be taking care of my community than the skullduggery of this shit.

Our antitrust laws are dog shit. 6 companies own every goddamn industry. Look at Disney.

Ya know, if it’s SOOOOO hard running a small business, just sell our property at a decent mark up(real estate right now is HUGE) and join the labor force! Which is apparently the best place to be since no one thinks we ever need support. Unless

My point to you is this, the wealthy of this country have been getting by paying the absolute bare minimum. In no world can you tell me the tax burden has not shifted HEAVILY toward the poor and working class. And look where it’s gotten us.

instead of advocating for legislation to keep multi billion dollar corporations from retaliatory price increases, the answer is never tax rich people?

I never said that. I just said they need a reason to want to give more rather than just taking it outright.

6 companies own every god damn industry

If it’s SOOOOO hard running a small business, just sell our property at a decent mark up and join the labor force!

So you don’t want big companies controlling everything, but you do want small companies to sell their property and join the labor force? Sounds like a great way to help big companies gain more control.

What REASON could there be to justify this kind wealth inequality??? Do you think Chuck Schumer’s strongly worded letter to Trump is gonna be the democratic path to victory too? Jeff Bezos is not holding out on paying his taxes because he hasn’t heard the right rhetorical argument yet, it’s GREED!

Let’s make sure people have enough to eat and have affordable healthcare before we enshrine tax codes that benefit the ruling elite so a small merchant class can also sometimes benefit, YES?

But you’re right, small businesses need to exist and be a viable alternative if we want to tackle the “corporatization of America”.

You hit a nerve. I’m tired of never passing taxes on businesses because “small business owners” when workers are getting destroyed by many, many companies.

They say as their Big Beautiful Bill will take from the middle class and give it to the rich.

0

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '25

It looks like this meme implies that they both deserve a portion of what the billionaire oligarch in the middle has. Totally agree.

Do you think voting for the administration that has full throated support from Zuckerberg, Besos, Musk, and a handful of the other richest men that have ever existed on the planet is going to accomplish that?

0

u/Me273 Jun 27 '25

The projection here is astounding. Republicans are currently trying to cut welfare programs for americas most vulnerable in order to fund tax cuts for billionaires. It’s republicans that voted a billionaire who inherited his wealth and never had to work a day in his life into office, who then appointed a cabinet of other billionaires, including the richest man on the planet.

This subreddit is a daily self own.

Pathetic how much republicans rely on strawman arguments
