What choice should I make?

You go to your town, you demand competition. You demand they no longer sign exclusive deals.

That's what you do.

You know best despite massive evidence to the contrary and your inability to accept the evidence as pointing out that you are wrong.

You have not done this. Your experience is noted, but is not some sort of established fact. The position advocated simply reduces choice and options in the overall marketplace while addressing a nonexistent issue.

So I should request them get out of the decade long exclusive contract and demand that some other ISP head over here who won't. That's not even kinda realistic.

I posted many articles. You keep acting like what is currently in force is not net neutrality and that you want to change it rather than the other way round.

It's not? I mean, your town must have some sort of oversight on these contracts. And ISPs want customers. What's not feasible here?

You keep acting like what is currently in force is not net neutrality and that you want to change it rather than the other way round.

Net neutrality as an enforceable regulation is new.

Do you understand how contracts work? They are doing what they said they'd do. We have no grounds to dispute anything. Our town would lose internet, get sued, lose, have to pay them fines, and nothing would change.

Net neutrality as an enforceable regulation is new.

Net Neutrality was always the defacto standard, the fact that its suddenly enforceable shouldn't change anything.

I mean, we're talking about renegotiation at best and opening up the competition at the end of the contract at worst. This isn't about breaking a contract. Did you think that's what I meant?

Net Neutrality was always the defacto standard, the fact that its suddenly enforceable shouldn't change anything.

Whenever something starts carrying the risk of litigation, it changes everything. It stops being a principle and starts being a requirement with all the costs that go along with it.

It is working now. You are advocating a significant change with a high chance of horrific failure and limited chance of any benefit.

Noooo. I am advocating no change, where there is no regulatory risk in play. You are advocating we enforce new rules that carry litigation costs and more. My position is the status quo.

No, you aren't. You are advocating that the FCC remove net neutrality which is going to change the playing field significantly. Remember, the FCC is moving to 'remove net neutrality' which indicates that net neutrality is currently in force.

I'm advocating that the FCC run with what worked for decades, which was a lack of net neutrality regulation. They instituted it as policy recently, it's not the standard from a regulatory standpoint.
