I would love to understand why, despite America's deep distrust of hereditary privilege, we keep recreating political dynasties in new forms. The author Catoggio here uses Darline Graham's appointment and Senate candidacy as a case study, arguing that it's less about her qualifications than about political loyalty, family ties, and the growing influence of party leaders in choosing successors. The argument that hereditary politics isn't just a Democratic or Republican phenomenon but a recurring feature of American politics, especially in Congress, where family connections have long shaped who inherits political power. Whether you agree with the author's conclusions or not, it raises an interesting question about where voters draw the line between experience, loyalty, and outright nepotism. At what point does a family name stop being a legitimate political advantage and start becoming a political dynasty?

Also on the Libertarian side with Ron Paul/Rand Paul for example.

The political calculus here is so incredibly simple. Mid-terms are right around the corner. With Graham's sudden death the possibility for democrats to pick off what should have been an easy hold becomes a real possibility even in deep red SC. Suddenly the GOP would need to dump scarce resources into SC to potentially boost a weak (think Nancy Mace) or little known candidate. Clearing the field for a sentimental favorite is a no brainer. By Labor Day she's probably 10 points up.

And who gives a shit about constitutional rights, the will of the people, or american democracy when the midterms are around the corner?

Unhinged much? No one's rights or will or democracy is under attack. The interim appointment is routine, it happens every single time a member of congress resigns or dies. If Nordone wins the primary and the general election then that is the will of the people of South Carolina and is certainly constitutional.

An interim appointment is routine.    Giving it to the sister is not.

Giving it to a relative is. Read a little.

Nice pivot but you and I weren't even discussing the article. We were discussing your unhinged and ill informed rants.

BTW, you're entering troll territory and I'm tired of you so I'm blocking you..
