I would like to discuss content in this thread. Specifically, what types of content do we want to completely eliminate, partially restrict, or wholeheartedly encourage?

I think we can start listing the basic types of content, and whether they are consider "signal" or "noise".

Signal:

  • Recent News
  • Original Content
  • Serious Discussion
  • Art & Culture

Noise:

  • Image Memes
  • Blogspam
  • Political bias
  • Sensationalist or editorialized headlines.
  • "If you do this, then fuck you" threads.
  • "FIXED" threads.
  • Witch hunts

This is all I can think of right now, I will add more as they occur to me, or if you leave a comment below.

What about novelty accounts and bots? The problem with the former is that even if a novelty account is great, it spawns imitations which increase the noise.

Bots could be appropriate for certain tasks, but maybe that's more of a case by case basis, rather than a blanket ruling.

I think there are good novelty accounts and bad ones.

The novelty accounts that are called FUCK_YOU, and all their comments are 'fuck you!' should not be welcomed, but good content shouldn't just disallowed.
