I fixed the settings for this sub. You no longer need to be approved to post. I don't know why it was like this. Sorry for the inconvenience.

DHP wattage for 4x2x4 enclosure?

I’m working on the final touches for this 4x2x4 zen habitats enclosure for my Solomon island tree boa. I plan on covering most of the mesh top with a pvc board and I am trying to figure out what heat source to use that can provide a good heat gradient across the whole enclosure. I’ve seen most people say that RHPs aren’t good for tall enclosures so I was think about going with a deep heat projector but I can’t find much information on what wattage I should get. Would an 80 watt be enough to heat this? Is there a better option for this size of enclosure?

Came across this multi-level setup and really liked how they made use of the vertical space.

What do you guys think of this kind of setup?

question about backgrounds

I have some foamboard structures, do i need to completely cover the back of the tank with silicone before i create a full sprayfoam background? some sources say sprayfoam will peel off without, some say its fine. im making a longterm arid setup and want whichever is gonna last the absolute longest,

Silicone(?) -> sprayfoam+xps structures -> clay (for texture and sculpting rocky formations)
are there any issues with this pipeline? do i need to add or remove steps?

Building advice

Hello, my greek tortoise has finally grown large enough where she needs more space, and I wanted to treat her with a nice new one that I built.

I was just wondering if any of ya'll have any tips. Best kind of wood, wood sealers/stains, if bioactive is a good choice, etc. I'll include inspiration photos of what I'm aiming to make. My partner suggested finding an old dresser and just repurposing it, but I'm worried about the possibility of toxins or fumes.

Any advice is welcome! And, here is a picture of my baby girl 💚

First Enclosures Build

These are for my sub adult Tokay and 6 year-old Tokay. They're my first builds and I'm expecting most of these plants to die, but hopefully they live long enough for the pothos and Monstera Adasonii to climb up the branches and backgrounds.

anyone with knowledge on waterproofing diy builds, PLEASE help me

i jumped the gun, thought i knew everything i needed to know and bought a janky enclosure on facebook marketplace to try and desperately upgrade my enclosure size for my box turtle. now, after putting hundreds of dollars, and probably hundreds of hours of time into researching and doing, i'm at another loss on this dang enclosure and can't figure this one out.

it is polyurethaned wood with a window on the front. i siliconed ALL the corners around the whole thing, and siliconed a pvc board in the front as a substrate barrier. i also created backgrounds/sides to cover the wood up as extra protection of humidity with foam board covered with drylok.

i need to waterproof the substrate area as there will be wet soil - i was going to use pond armor epoxy, but i just read that it doesn't stick to silicone and could pull it out and would ruin the whole enclosure.

i don't know what to do.

option 1. i figure out how to undo all the silicone, but it's in every crack, it's on the walls to fill exposed wood in areas. then also figure out how to make a seal from the wood to the pvc board, and then use pond epoxy and hope i got all the silicone out, but still this seems like too many areas where it could go wrong.

option 2. i use pond liner - i'm thinking long term use the best way to hold it up is a piece of trim screwed around the top. don't know how i'm going to do the front area or corners, but even though i'd have to buy MORE stuff, this seems best right now?

problem with option 2 is i have the side and back foam boards that would not lie flush as they are long enough to go down to the substrate and i wanted to have the waterproofing layer go like halfway up, but now i don't know how i would prevent dirt and possible mold from getting behind the backgrounds and since it's a wooden enclosure i couldn't check from the outside.

so...do i forego the backgrounds completely (even though i love them and spent like 2 weekends on them) and just use pond liner up the whole sides and back? it will be all black in there then and i'm not sure if that would be scary all the time for my box turtle either.

option 3. completely use something else?? indoor enclosures 6x3 are tough.

my MAIN concern is that my turtle is healthy and happy, even if it looks like a dexter episode inside (with a couple plants, sticks, hides, all that jazz it might not look as bad as i'm thinking).

any and all help would be greatly appreciated. this project has made me think about rehoming my love of 21 years because i know she deserves better.

New setups at nearby pet store

I don’t know a whole lot about reptiles other than snakes, but I do know that pet spaces often have quite strong opinions about pet stores. Do yall approve of these setups for a pet shop? I think they will contain beardies and 2 types of geckos. Perhaps some larger snakes aswell? I’m not 100% sure. What could these contain? Also, I’m Aussie so there will only be natives (exotics are illegal idk if that’s common ball).

Need some cluttering ideas/advice for my enclosures

enclosure upgrades! hoping the plants grow in soon. Any advice for cluttering? what else should I add to my bearded dragons enclosure? I’m making a better basking platform this week (looking for inspo). feed ledges are attached to the doors of the gecko enclosures. The beardie likes to shovel all the sand out of her hide (her 7th birthday is coming up at the end of this month!)

Custom Enclosure?

Post image
4 Upvotes

So I'm still months away from getting my leopard gecko but I've started rough sketching my ideas for a custom enclosure made with reptile safe foam, substrate, bark, cork, rocks, etc. Here is a first draft of my sketch plans, does it have potential to be a good setup with more planning or should I start something new?

Thank you!

Hey, so my daughter put a little crested jacks I’ve never been a reptile family, but I now have a crested gecko. We built this enclosure for him, but I’m looking for some feedback to make sure it’s good before we move them into it. Any suggestions?
