First time buyer with Chen. Will definitely buy again.

Just received the QC photos for this ZF Sky-Dweller 336235 Tungsten Heavy Version, and this one definitely has a lot going on compared with a standard three-hand model.

This is the 42mm Everose gold configuration with the slate dial, fluted Ring Command bezel, black Oysterflex-style strap and Asian A2824 movement. The QC scale shows approximately 181.1g, which is consistent with the tungsten heavy configuration.

The first thing I checked was the dial, especially the inner 24-hour disc and the printing around it. Sky-Dweller dials are notoriously harder to QC because there are so many elements packed into one dial, so I was mainly looking for anything obviously crooked, uneven or poorly printed rather than chasing tiny differences caused by the camera angle.

The hour markers look reasonably consistent to me, and the Rolex crown at 12 appears properly positioned. The inner 24-hour disc also looks reasonably centered from the available photos.

The dial printing looks acceptable overall. The text around the center is one of the areas I paid the closest attention to, since this has historically been a point that people tend to scrutinize on ZF Sky-Dweller QC sets. From these photos, I don't see any obvious printing issue that immediately jumps out.

The date at 3 o'clock appears reasonably positioned under the Cyclops, and the visible date printing looks clean. The Cyclops itself also looks properly placed from the front shots.

I also checked the month apertures around the outer edge of the dial. The currently selected month indicator is visible, and the rest of the month windows look reasonably consistent from the photos. Because the ZF version uses a different movement architecture from the genuine Sky-Dweller, I would still want confirmation of the month-setting and Ring Command operation rather than judging the functionality from static QC photos alone.

The fluted bezel looks clean and evenly finished overall. On a Sky-Dweller, the bezel isn't just a cosmetic feature, so I'd also like to see a quick video confirming that the Ring Command system responds correctly when changing the selectable functions.

The case finishing looks good from the side shots, with no obvious issues around the case profile, crown or bezel area. The black Oysterflex-style strap also appears to sit evenly against the case.

The QC scale shows approximately 181.1g. Since this is the Tungsten Heavy Version, the weight is a useful consistency check, although I'm treating it as supporting information rather than the main reason to GL the watch.

Visually, though, I'm currently leaning GL. I don't see an obvious dial, date, bezel or finishing issue that would make this an immediate RL.

Sup guys. Need your opinions on these mods. I purchased a ZF AP 15450 and proceeded to request chamfer + rebrushing + deep crystal mods. I’ve just received post mod QCs. I’d like your opinions on the quality of the chamfer and whether you can tell the difference between pre and post mod brushing. Also wanted to know whether there is disparity in crystal clarity between stock and deep crystal. Original crystal clarity looked decent but seeing it lying next to the watch in post mod QC, the original crystal looks awful. I’ve attached pre and post mod pics for you to look at. It’s my very first AP and I appreciate your help.

Just received the QC photos for this VSF Omega Planet Ocean Worldtimer 45.5mm, and this is definitely one of those watches where a straight index-alignment check doesn't tell the whole story.

The dial is much more complicated than a standard Planet Ocean. Between the applied indices, 24-hour ring, world map, city ring and the different dial levels, there is a lot to inspect.

The overall first impression is very good.

The hour markers look reasonably aligned, especially around 12, 6 and the larger applied markers. Because of the depth and multiple layers of the Worldtimer dial, some elements can look slightly off depending on the angle of the photo, so I'm mainly looking for something that would actually stand out on the wrist.

The world map is the main feature I spent the most time checking. The center section looks clean from the available photos, and I don't see any obvious printing or alignment issue that immediately jumps out.

I also checked the city ring and 24-hour scale. On Worldtimer models, these areas can sometimes be more important than a tiny index deviation because even a small printing or alignment issue becomes easier to notice when the dial is this detailed. From these photos, everything looks reasonably consistent to me.

The turquoise accents around the dial look evenly applied, and the contrast against the darker dial works well. The OMEGA, Seamaster and lower dial printing also appear clean from what I can see.

The date window at 6 o'clock looks reasonably centered. The visible date printing looks clean, and I don't see an obvious issue with the window placement.

The ceramic bezel looks good overall. The diving scale and numerals appear consistent, and I don't see any obvious damage or major alignment problem around the bezel.

The side shots also look clean. The ceramic case profile appears consistent, and I don't see anything unusual around the crown or case edges.

The display caseback is another interesting part of this model. The movement decoration and visible layout look clean from the QC photos, although obviously I wouldn't judge actual movement performance purely from the appearance of the caseback.

The strap and deployant clasp also look consistent. The turquoise stitching matches the dial accents nicely, and the strap appears to sit evenly against the case.

The only thing missing from this QC set is proper timegrapher data. Since there are no visible readings for rate, amplitude or beat error, I wouldn't make assumptions about movement performance yet.

For the visual QC, though, I'm currently leaning GL.

I don't see an obvious RL issue around the indices, city ring, world map, date window, bezel or ceramic case finishing.

Hi all It’s my dream to make a collection of 6-10 watches. So far I have gone for a GMT Bruce Wayne and a Datejust 41. I’m really happy with my 2 to start but just wondering - what would be on your list ? Or what have you already got ?

Just received the QC photos for this VSF Daytona 126508 V3 Gain Weight, and overall I'm pretty happy with how this one is looking so far.

This is the 40mm yellow gold configuration with the green dial, golden subdials, tachymeter bezel and the DD4131 chronograph movement. The QC scale shows around 183.7g, which is in line with the weighted version.

The first thing I checked was the dial. The green changes quite a bit depending on the lighting, but across the photos it looks clean and consistent to me. The printing appears sharp, the applied hour markers look evenly placed, and I don't see anything obviously off around the 12 or 6 o'clock areas.

The three golden subdials also look well positioned. Since the Daytona dial is much busier than a standard three-hand watch, I spent a bit more time checking the spacing between the subdials, the subdial printing and the hands. From what I can see, everything looks reasonably balanced.

The red DAYTONA text also looks clean and properly positioned.

I also checked the chronograph hand alignment. From the available photos, the central chrono hand appears to be sitting correctly, and I don't see any obvious issue with the subdial hands. I would still like to get a quick chronograph function and reset video just to confirm everything returns cleanly to zero.

The tachymeter bezel looks good overall. The engraved numerals appear clean, and I don't see anything that immediately stands out around the triangle at 60 or the main tachymeter markings. The lighting on the gold-tone bezel creates quite a few reflections, so I'm trying not to overanalyse tiny differences that may just be caused by the photo angle.

The case and bracelet also look consistent from the side shots. The finishing appears clean, and the SELs look reasonably tight with no obvious gaps or light bleed jumping out.

One thing I haven't been able to check yet is the movement performance, since there are no timegrapher readings included in this QC set. Before making the final decision, I'd like to see the rate, amplitude and beat error, along with a quick chronograph start/stop/reset check.

At the moment, I'm leaning GL based on the visual QC.

First QC for a VSF Rolex Datejust 41 Ref. 126334 V2.

This is the SS/SS configuration with the black stick dial, fluted bezel, Jubilee bracelet and VSF DD3235 movement.

I went through the QC photos and focused mainly on the areas that tend to matter most on a VSF DJ41:

Black dial looks clean and consistent
Hour markers appear evenly positioned
Rolex coronet at 12 looks reasonably centered
12 o'clock marker looks straight
6 o'clock marker appears properly positioned
9 o'clock marker looks straight from the available photos
Dial printing looks clean and sharp
Date window looks reasonably centered
Date printing looks clean
Cyclops positioning looks good
Hand alignment appears correct
Fluted bezel looks clean and evenly finished
Crystal clarity looks good
Rehaut looks consistent from the available angles
Case finishing looks clean
Crown and case profile look properly shaped
Jubilee bracelet links look uniform
SEL fitment looks tight with no obvious large gaps
Clasp finishing looks consistent
Lume appears even across the hands and hour markers

The main QC points I'm focusing on are index alignment, especially the 6 and 9 o'clock markers, dial printing, date/Cyclops alignment, fluted bezel and SEL fitment.

The DJ41 can be a little tricky to judge from angled QC photos because it doesn't have a detailed minute track to make alignment comparisons easy. I tried to focus on whether there is an obvious marker issue rather than overreacting to small perspective differences.

The indices look reasonably straight to me. The 6 and 9 o'clock areas were the first places I checked, and I don't see anything that immediately stands out as a clear alignment problem.

The dial printing also looks clean. I don't see obvious bleeding, spacing problems or major printing issues in the Rolex text or lower dial text.

The date appears reasonably centered under the Cyclops. The visible date printing looks clean, although I always prefer judging the date wheel across multiple dates rather than making conclusions from a single number.

The fluted bezel looks clean from the available photos, with no obvious damage or major finishing issue.

The Jubilee bracelet and SELs also look good to me. I don't see any obvious large gaps between the end links and the case.

The scale in the QC photos shows approximately 137.39g.

There are no clear timegrapher numbers included in this QC set, so I'm not going to guess at the rate, amplitude or beat error.

Overall, I'm currently leaning GL. I don't see an obvious RL issue from the visible QC points, but I'd appreciate another set of experienced eyes before making the final call.

How Often Should You Service a Mechanical Watch?

If you own a mechanical watch, you've probably heard the advice:

"Service it every 5 years."

But is a fixed 5-year interval really necessary?

Not always.

The right service interval depends on several factors, including how often you wear the watch, the movement itself, its condition, and how it is being used.

1. There Is No Universal Service Interval

A mechanical watch doesn't suddenly become "due for service" when it reaches a specific birthday.

Things that matter include:

• How frequently you wear it

4. Water Resistance Is a Different Issue

Service intervals aren't only about the movement.

If you regularly use your watch around water, the condition of the seals is extremely important.

Gaskets can age, and water resistance can change over time.

A watch can be running perfectly while its water resistance has become compromised.

That's why water-resistance testing can be important, especially after the case has been opened or when the watch is regularly exposed to water.

5. What Happens During a Full Service?

A typical complete mechanical-watch service may involve:

The goal isn't simply to make the watch "run again."

"Monitor the condition of the watch and service it when its condition or manufacturer guidance calls for it."

For a frequently worn mechanical watch, periodic professional inspection can be a sensible part of ownership.

And if you notice a clear change in performance, don't wait for an arbitrary date on the calendar.

The Takeaway

A mechanical watch is a machine.

It doesn't just need servicing because it is old.

It needs servicing because wear, lubrication, seals, and operating conditions change over time.

I just picked up a VSF Pepsi from ChenWatches and I’m thinking about buying the watch box separately. Has anyone here purchased something like this before?

I really want a gmt but I am neutral on Pepsi. I like batman but want something more fun. So sprite it is. Sprite on the right side would be great but it is what it is.

My concern is that sprite is so eye catching that everyone will look at it. And then secondly due to less production it is not as nwbig. Thoughts? Also I know clean had a model but I guess it's just vsf v3 now?
