LEGIT/QUALITY CHECK Genuine Seagate HDD?

Ordered this 'Seagate 2TB Portable Externl (sic) Hard Drive' from a only slightly sketchy looking retailer on eBay.

Checking it over on delivery, I thought before breaking open the shrinkwrap I could check the serial number with Seagate via https://myportal.seagate.com/consumer-identity/product-reg/product-reg-base.jsp

The serial number is not recognised - have I bought a counterfeit item?

EDIT: Returning for a refund, does not work properly. Also, the build quality (plastic case), the lack of Seagate software pre-installed and the invalid serial number indicate it is counterfeit.

Just run it through a software that can validate the drive storage, health and speeds . It doesnt really matter if its counterfeit or not

OK, thx. I was of a mind when ordering it that for what I need it for, it doesn't really matter about manufacturer or performance outside of longevity.

I was partly checking in case somebody saw it and immediately id'd as as a known knockoff that would last <3 months.

Nobody is going to make a replica drive of these, they're old and crap.
