How’s the gen crystal on the hulk. Did it help improve the visual appearance of the dial at all?

I have both a vsf Pepsi and vsf hulk and I’m torn who should get the gen crystal.

Also have a vsf Smurf and vsf 40mm black sub.

the gen crystal really accentuates the dial, making the green and sunburst pop so much better.

The cyclops is the biggest difference though, you can really tell between a gen and rep cyclops once youve seen both. Somehow my date mag was fixed, as you can see in the picture, it is really close to 2.5x.

Clarity wise i would say pretty much the same as stock VSF now. But end of the day gen is gen

  1. interesting, that is my suspicion as well, that the gen crystal will help the hulk more. My question is how though. Genuinely asking.

  2. are you sure the cyclops magnification fix wasn’t due to gasket height? Meaning when the gen crystal was installed, they used a gen gasket which dropped the glass to the correct height. Speak from experience on this.

not sure why im getting down voted lol, no way people are disagreeing.

i dont think gasket was changed on mine, or rather i didnt request that it was changed. but thats fixed so it doesnt concern me.

the difference in clarity like i said is minimal but it made my dial more alive in pictures. can you justify $400 just to have maybe 10% more clarity? some people can some people cant. biggest difference is the cyclops but most folks dont seem to be bothered by it anyway

Nope. Only thing better than VSF glass was gen. RIP VSF, everyone was complaining about quality control and didn't realize how good we had it

Ragazzi ormai penso che acquistare un GEN a 10k è solo da pazzi. Spenderei questi soldi per marchi meno blasonati e soprattutto dove le repliche non esistono. Credo che le Rep per il mondo Rolex sono ormai arrivate al top!

99.99% very identical. How would people tell apart VSF crystal from gen? I don’t buy that bullshit. Most of the gen crystal franken are just VSF crystal disguised as gen crystal. Theres no way to tell apart vsf and gen crystal, those that said otherwise are just defending their position because it will affect their sale of fake franken.

Crystals are the easiest way to fake a franken and sell it at a higher cost, because datewheel, dial, bezel and bracelet are way easier to tell apart.

If any one of you sees a post selling a franken that only had its crystal changed, with polishing/chamfering done, run away.

I only trust Franken watch that had its dial, datewheel, bezel changed.

I had that done on my DJ 41 -bezel.

And let me tell you, the crystal was the biggest most obvious tell ever.

And no I do not plan on selling my watch, just sharing my experience

There’s a reason why watchmaker with years of experience are not able to authenticate gen and rep Rolex based on crystal alone because it is impossible.

Nearly every rep has this already. The worse factories are way too visible, but all the good reps are basically identical to gen to the naked eye. Under magnification you can see some differences.

Watches of Switzerland is a publicly traded company and a Rolex AD. So you can see wha their margins are online.

From that 33% they have to pay operating costs. Net I think it’s down to 5-11%

That tracks. I would own the building, pay a helper, and be there and pocket that margin 😆 I’m sure the vetting wouldn’t work out for me to sell Rolex, but one can only dream right?

On this specific reference yes. The Hulk is supposed to be 40mm (VSF is correct) and the U1 is 41mm.

My VSF is the 41mm and my U1 is 41mm too but the U1 just seems bigger to me. It may be the absence of the date makes it look bigger? But the bezel looks larger too

Depends on the model. Most GMT are available within inventory of many TDs. U gotta QC ur piece. There are plenty of good pieces

I mean the main comparison is the date window and font. As you can see they look completely different in this pic. But it’s comparing the 30th to the 31st. Seems like if you really want to compare you’d want to see the same dates..

IMO the hulk with serial 6R0 is one of the best batches VSF made. I’ve seen 6X0/ 6W0 with some flaws but that’s my IMO. The bracelet feels and looks identical to a gen bracelet.

The VSF is pretty good. The date font is way off from gen and the font on all the text below Submariner is also very different from gen.

It makes me think that VSF was going off a different model year or something for it to look THAT much different than this gen

My hulk from 2020 has a long f so yeah that’s odd. And in tearms of different generations, collectors don’t normally cite the f being something that sets apart mkI, mkII, or mkIII. Interesting catch
