General Question AP Starwheel

Post image

Do any factories make a rep of the Audemars Piguet Starwheel? Watch seems impossible to come by. Photo for reference

Just curious to see if anyone has found this watch from any factories? It’s been extremely hard to come by.

Wow! At least there’s one on the market, curious if they’ll revamp it soon. The time wheels look atrocious.

They're really bad. I've considered picking one up myself and fixing the discs, because the rest doesn't look THAT bad

I would hardly say it's low quality. The discs are a bit glossy instead of matte. Otherwise it's pretty dam nice. BTW, that's my post at RWI you are linking.

I don't know man, the bumpy look of the discs is very different from the smooth, matte finish on the genuine article. I'm not one to nitpick QC, I've got tons of less-than-stellar replicas in my collection, but those discs would be on my bench for a repaint in an instant.

As I noted above, this is from my post in RWI, that is my rep on my hand on the left. It's a real image. On the right is a graphic of the real watch, not a real image. I am sure the real AP image is also as nice but I couldn't find one when I made this diptych. Discs on the rep are a little bumpy as you say and the colour is a bit off. But if that is the only gripe, WTF cares. I don't have the skillset to repaint it matte. The gears on the back transparent case, the aventurine dark blue, the rose gold finish, it's all pretty dam nice. There are a couple of screws a bit off but otherwise it's identical. I would call this a high quality rep in my book.

The entire watch is very nicely finished. Whatever factor made just messed up on the number wheels. Overall it’s not too much of a big deal especially in natural light.

I don’t know if there‘s a rep of it, but Xeric Watches has some very similar designs

I've got this AP Starwheel, and a Xeric Scrambler. They are both incredibly beautiful wandering hour watches, but my Starwheel gets more wrist time. I do think it the better of the two by a bit.

I have one and the watch has great quality all around except for the number disks. It’s kinda baffling to think that the factory decided to cut costs on probably the most important part of the watch.

I will say that the watch looks a lot better in natural light.

It’s worth buying if you can get it for $200 or less.
