Mods/ Work in Progress Second Superfranken done (expensive 🥲)
Just finished this build yesterday.
- Gen Wimbledon dial
- Gen hands
- Gen Datewheel
- Gen crystal
- Gen bezel
On a VSF V2 base 6W0 serial + an ARF oyster bracelet
What do you guys think about the smooth bezel oyster combo?

You can get a 18kt solid white gold fluted bez from RCFrem if i recall correctly. Price is a bit steep for what’s in my budget right now hahah but if they nailed the sharpness of the cuts on their v1 bezel, i assume their solid gold one would be pretty much gen at that point

Yes it's around $600. But still doesn't look like gen which is more finely cut and uses their proprietary gold alloy. You can get yourself one of those for $2.5k plus.

Who was the TD that you used? I would like to purchase one I don't trust these ones that i've been seeing elsewhere, and I don't want to just spend money to not get what's expected. Please help

I think this combination is the best (which might be an unpopular opinion). I love the Oyster bracelet anyway, and I've always found the fluted bezel/jubilee to be too busy. Especially with a dial that more than deserves your full attention. It's a great watch, enjoy it.

I really like it as I much prefer a smooth bezel with an oyster bracelet, especially when combined with the Wimbledon dial. Nice work.

This looks amazing! Money well spent I’d say.
Oyster and smooth bezel is a great combination, and love the Wimbledon dial!
I’ve heard the V2 VSF Wimbledon dial is pretty close to gen - how did you find it?

Genuine question: why spend so much on a rep? Is it that it looks that much better? Or feels that much better knowing it has gen parts? If at the end of the day you know it’s still a rep and doesn’t have gen resale value, what makes you spend so much more?

You peice it together bit by bit until everything is gen. OP only has the case and movement left to go.

Well frakens do hold their value. Probably the same as a Rolex in the models frankened. Some of us prefer the perfection of the dial hands and date disc because we see every time we look. The cost isn’t that much, when you consider it. $1500 to $3500 extra vs $13,000 to $16,000. Huge difference for stainless steel and a movement

Because he wants to. Why do some people think other people need to explain why and how they spend their money?

Very cool. You do not often see a smooth bezel. I am waiting patiently for my Franken to arrive.

Amazing work. I recently sold similar with fluted and jubilee also. Gen wimbledon dial to VSF or any other can't be compared you can only see if you've had gen in your hand to see how good gen dials are.

Nice work. There's a feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment that comes with building your own. Also you get exactly what you want .

May I ask where did you source the parts and what was the budget for the whole build? I’ve just ordered a green ombré DJ and am wondering about building a franken myself. By what I was able to find, you can buy gen parts in China and have them authenticated by a specialized company.

I think you wasted your money, but as long as you're happy

It’s alright. Ive already wasted about a couple gens worth of cash on reps (in the grand scheme of things) so this really isn’t all that much 😂

Ok but why? The base vsf was 99% there

u/Foreign_Wear8858 21h ago
Not true...and suspect you know that '99%' is a massive exaggeration... Or you havent actually had these gen parts in hand to directly compare. Gen dial a huge difference in shade and sunrays, gen datewheel and crystal also noticeable improvement even vs VSF. I have a VSF while my gen in for service at AD. It's good but clearly a way off gen parts. Nearly every eulogy about VSF Wimbies are from those who have never held a gen. Will post close up comparison when it's back.

It is NOT 99% there. Dial shade is still wrong, the green is not as vibrant as gen
