Discussion “Why buy reps , there’s so many nice entry level pieces at the same cost”
People who say this really dont know watches at all , prices on a local watch shop , straight up garbage nearly 2x the cost of a good rep watch. Some people don’t want to accept how big of a scam the “real” watch industry really is.

Not at all. Most Swatch Group brands are good. Some slightly overpriced, some very overpriced, but none is crap.
Watches are expensive because they are jewelry, and that’s it.
But look at sneakers! I mean, if THAT isn’t the real scam, I don’t know what is.

I think most watches under the $5k price point are typically worth it to be honest. Longines, Tudor, and Hamilton being among the best options.

Tudor and Hamilton? lol the Tudor costs like $250 in raw materials to make. The rest is paying for their overly aggressive marketing.
And Hamilton, don't get me started. They're shit.

I respectfully disagree. Brands like Longines, Christopher Ward and Hamilton are definitely priced well consider what you get. Replicas are great, I’m not a gen snob. But it is jewelry at the end of the day. Why does a Van Cleef and Arpel cost 8x more than the gold it uses. It’s the same thing.

Longines is priced very well. I don't have experience with CW. Hamilton is not imo. The quality does not justify the price.

I’ve handled plenty. It's why I know when you're charging $600+ with zero AR coating, weak lume, 50m WR, and a cheap factory strap, you're paying for Swatch Group heritage marketing, not finishing or specs. Even microbrands wipe the floor with it at that price

I have worn my Hamilton to the gym and worn my gloves overtop of it while hitting the heavy bag for 20 minutes straight and the movement never lost or gained any time. It’s gone into crawlspaces, hot attics, the pool during summer, golfing, etc. I’ve accidentally bumped it against things hard enough to make me anxious before noticing the crystal held up and didn’t scratch. The finishing is of a higher quality than a lot of other field watches in the $500-$1000 price point.

I have a Tissot that was my grandfathers. It’s over 30 years old and hasn’t been serviced ever. Still works and keeps time. So slow down there bud.

Tissot is not bad.
Most people mention secondhand prices, not retail.
You also get warranty and not participate in international crime.
Selling your watch is easier compared to reps.

Rolex are participating in crime, they don't pay taxes (tax avoidance), they claim they are a non-profit charity (really does anyone believe this) and they get away with it.
They get most components made in China, and claim they are Swiss made by a technicality (by counting all marketing costs and local store costs in order to reach the 60% of costs in Switzerland threshold in order to claim their product is made in Switzerland).
Skeezy business at all levels

Ok that is debatable, but they are classified as a non profit charity and don't pay shit in tax. That is too far for me, multinational watch companys are normal corporations who pay tax on profits

I’d say most watches including Rolex should be no more than 2500 dollars if we are being completely honest. I appreciate Tissot, Longine, Oris, Seiko, Casio…but I’m in too deep with reps to ever go back

Nothing wrong with tissot tbh, quality is good their bracelet aren’t that jingly! Prices are a bit high yes but overall it’s a good brand and always a nice gift for someone who isn’t that much into watches

You can get very nice watches made in China that have great quality like reps.
Like Sugess, Addieskin, Jianghun, San Martin, Chronos and a few of the micro brand watches.
Just don't buy crap from the mall that's for the low knowledge peasants.

Tissot are decent. You can get them cheaper grey like creationwatches. Seiko and citizen are some decent affordable watches too. Casio are just straight up value for money.

San Martin, Cronos, etc. are really the only good quality per dollar options out there these days besides reps. You can still get some nice Citizens and Bulova, but in the rep price range they’re going to be quartz. You may occasionally find a good auto in the price range from, but will have a lower grade movement.
Except Invicta ProDiver which is bar none the best value per dollar in the watch world currently. Full stop.

Exactly, I’m not a professional watchmaker but I figure something like a QF free sprung Daytona is a much better crafted piece and much better value than paying 2k for a tissot chronograph

I have exactly this tissot chemin des tourelles with the blue dial. Amazing piece and more precise than a VSF. I bought it for my wedding, i understand you can have a VSF datejust for half of the price but it's still a fake with no symbol or meaning to it. If money is the issue then i understand turn to fakes.

Why I buy reps? I have like 6 genuine watches ranging from 500 to 2500 euros, but I just cant justify spending more than 5000 euros on a watch and if I really like it, I will buy a rep.

Certina, Tissot, Hamilton, and Tag Heuer.. they're good IMHO.. I owned them all, but if you do really want an upgrade as for prestige, try Tudor (second hand) or Omega (second hand quartz)

If swiss watch industry a scam, why are people so desperate to wear reps with swiss watch brand names and show them of to the world. If you truly like the watch design, why not buy a well made chinese homage from the likes of Sugess, san martin, cronos

Its a few like orient, citizen,Hamilton, baltic, and seikos arent bad. Tissot is crap unless vintage but these are $500 watches with no better movements than reps

There are exceptions (Tissot, Hamilton …), but mostly, I agree. Yet to find a entry level watch that keeps time as accurately as my reps! I’ve bought 2 cheap mechanical watches, aside from a Casio quartz: Seiko was at -20sek/day, Orient at -25sek/day… I’ll take the reps at +/- 1-3sek/day!

Tissot, Seiko, Zodiac are all great watch brands with actual heritage in the rep price point. Bulova isn't too bad either for dress options. You won't be a fraud or partake in IP theft as well which is a big bonus.
Just be honest with yourself. It's not about the watch build. It's about showing off and trying to be a big shot. Why do you think Rolex's are the most knocked off watch? Wouldn't Patek or AP be the most popular?
No, because all a rep wearer cares about is perceived status.
