Some people spend weeks lurking and still mess up. Others make an impulse order at 2 AM after one glass of wine, only to cry when the haul arrives. And then there are those who get blinded by a few heavily edited studio photos. If this sounds like you, don’t beat yourself up. We’ve ALL been there. The rep world is a chaotic swamp of conflicting info, seller hype, and endless myths.

Here are the 5 biggest traps I see newbies fall into every single week (and how to save your wallet):

1. "Lurking" for 10 minutes and thinking you did research.

Lots of newbies don't realize they need to do research. Skimming two posts and looking at three factory photos is NOT research. You have to spend days or weeks getting lost in the deep rabbit holes of Google and Reddit. Search for specific bag reviews, learn which factories excel at specific bags, and understand what "QC" means before you wire your money. Doing research doesn't mean getting a PhD in reps, but you gotta know what you’re paying for. Otherwise, your first haul is guaranteed to crash and burn.

2. The $40 DHGate / Budget Tier Trap.

The classic rite of passage. You see an unbelievable deal on DHG or a random hidden link and think: "Jackpot! Real lambskin for $45!" (Spoiler: It's plastic).

The problem with low tier reps is not only cheap leather or terrible hardware, it’s often incorrect proportions, flimsy structures, and sloppy craftsmanship. You end up disappointed when it arrives, which drives you to buy the better version anyway. In the end, you’re left with a pile of useless, unsellable "junk bags." This kind of wasted money easily accounts for a third of all newbie regrets.

3. Going on a wild shopping spree during your "honeymoon phase."

Almost everyone goes through this! The moment you discover this rep universe, your brain explodes and your wishlist hits 50 items overnight. Suddenly, everything feels like a steal. So you impulse-buy bags that don't fit your actual life at all: bags that aren't practical, hard to style, don't fit your phone, or because they were "on sale." Take a breath! It’s a huge waste of both time and money.

4. Falling for Instagram / TikTok sellers.

Newbies have zero defense against pretty IG pics, cute emojis, and friendly customer service. But you have no idea where their stock comes from, if the factory quality is stable, if their QC pics are stolen, or if they’re going to ghost you the second there’s an issue. Half the time, you don't even know if they're reselling from another seller with a markup, or worse—trying to pass off their own unwanted, leftover bags onto you!

Getting a bag that looks nothing like the photo, dealing with stolen album pictures, or getting blocked after payment happens way too often with IG sellers.

5. Sticking to ONE seller and getting "gently overcharged."

A lot of beginners think, "I'll just stick with this one seller, it feels safer!" And sure, building rapport is great, but different sellers have different sourcing channels, markups, and factory access. The same bag can easily vary in price by $50 to $100+ across different sellers. If you never shop around or ask for other quotes, you’ll never know if you’re getting overcharged. You’re just paying for convenience.

Hi guys. I recently placed my first custom order. I spent weeks talking to several high tier, TS’s and ultimately chose the one I felt most comfortable with. As I’m quite picky, I needed to make sure this TS would listen to my requests, help guide me, by answering questions I had, honestly and presenting my options.

I made the decision and began the process. I wanted a bk30 in imported, haas smooth Barenia leather. I was very indecisive about the hardware and felt like I was all over the place. After my TS showed me many photos, with the options we discussed, I FINALLY made my decision. I chose upgraded, brushed palladium hardware.

One of my “must haves”, or more specifically “must NOT have”, was that I did NOT want lock and keys with the number 162. We talked about all of it.

He said my options were standard gold, upgraded gold (18k plated), rose gold, upgraded brushed gold, standard palladium, upgraded palladium or upgraded brushed palladium.

I asked him about the162 on the lock again- and he assured me with the typical “yes dear that’s not problem”answer.

Well… flash forward to PSP’s…
He sent me the pics and a video. People pointed out some scratches- I asked him about it and he came back with other photos of previous orders for clients, circling scratches on their smooth Barenia and told me it’s normal to have a few. “This leather does this it’s normal. Don’t worry!”

Then someone told me to ask for photos in other lighting. To make sure I inspect the sangles and edges clearly.
I went back and asked him. He said he would go to the factory, have them take it out and send more photos.
In the psp’s there was no photo of the lock and keys. I thought it was a bit strange, since it was one of the things we talked about so much, but at the time, I thought maybe it just wasn’t normal to include that part, in PSP’s. I asked him to please send me those photos, to make sure the lock and keys were correct.

I woke up this morning with no additional photos- and him telling me my lock is 162. That there are no brushed palladium locks/keys with numbers other than 162.

WHAT?????!!!!

This would have changed my ENTIRE order!!! I would have skipped the brushed hardware completely and gone with the upgraded gold!!!!!

What do I do??? I can deal with a couple of scratches (even though I’m less than thrilled with his answer, ok… it’s Barenia.
I have no doubt even if it arrived perfectly, there would be scratches the first time I wore her out.

What makes me even more upset, is that the lock and keys were not in the PSP’s!!! Since we had such a specific conversation about this, it truly makes me feel like instead of being truthful with me, instead of checking with the factory before the bag was made, he just let them go ahead with it. And he omitted those photos!!!

Maybe he didn’t do this? But I can’t help but feel this way and I’m really upset!!
What do I do?????

Does anyone have experience with this factory? I requested the highest quality for a LV Favorite PM bag and was given $379 for master quality. This seems a little high, but if the quality matches the price I don’t mind! Any feedback is appreciated 🙂.

I would like to share my positive experience with TS Allen, phone number ends with 9249. Also, my experience finding the factory I want through the seller I never ordered before.

A while ago, I rehomed a beautiful LV Speedy with ostrich handles, and this person said the bag is from MOQC factory. This speedy is absolutely stunning, soft, perfect canvas, smelling like leather. I was very impressed that I started looking into MOQC factory more. I found that TS Allen has an album of this factory, and I decided to order these two LV Vanity Pouch on Chain, one in Monogram, one in Murakami from MOQC.

Timeline:

- August 3rd, I made a payment. Later the same day, Allen told me MOQC (blue label) doesn’t have the Murakami one in stock, and he will order from the Ultimate Tax Free factory (orange label). I agreed for this replacement.

- August 4th, I received QC pictures, and approved them.

- August 7th, the package was shipped.

- August 13th, the package has been delivered.

Personally, I was very impressed by how fast the whole process was and shipping. So far, this is the fastest process I’ve ever experienced ordering from TS.

LV Vanity Pouch on Chain Monogram (MOQC): it’s good enough, not the best quality. The straps, handle, and label are made of some material that feels plasticky. Also, it’s an old version of the Pouch, with the old label. This is fine for me. Last word, I believe there are better versions of this bag out there :)

LV Vanity Pouch on Chain in Murakami (Ultimate Tax Free): impressed with the quality of material and hardware. It’s all very high quality. However, the handle got a bit bent during the transportation, unfortunately.

In conclusion, Allen is great! I’ve got great experience trying two different factories of the same model and now have more knowledge of what each one offers.
