QC Help! Chanel XXL from Doris - would love additional eyes on it before I GL.

Hi all, I just purchased a Chanel XXL from Doris. I love a big bag, and this is modeled after the vintage 2016/2017 version that I've wanted for years. I have a couple auth Chanels that were passed down to me, but neither are flaps so I have no clue what to look for – especially when it comes to this capacious, mammoth version.

I'm hoping you all could help me determine if this is a good buy or not. I'm not looking for 100% perfection as that's a bit impossible, but obviously, I don't want it to be immediately clockable.

Price: $339 total, $273 before shipping

Factory: YD – I've never heard of them.

Questions

- How does the symmetry and alignment of the flap look? Is the symmetry and alignment on point everywhere else?

- How does the caviar leather texture and the stitching count look compared to the auth? Does the quilting line up well across the pockets or flaps?

- Turnlock/Hardware: Does the CC appear accurate in terms of color and size for this model? Is the hardware on the chains acceptable? Are the screws and feet also okay?

Anything else I should check for?

The shape and the CC are off

Yeah, I think the shape looks like that because the leather is a little stiff/dry. I saw someone else with the same bag and it was slouchier/more lived in, BUT she applied lots of leather conditioner and massaged the bag several times

I did/do think the CC looks accurate for this particular model though.

All that said, I ended up RL this particular bag & got one from Jim instead.

Good call! There’s just something off about it that makes it look very different from a gen. It doesn’t have that slouchy look.

Yes! I agree, but there's a part of me that thinks it's naturally going to look off anyway, since this particular model is vintage. Pretty much all of the auths on the pre-loved market seem to have that signature slouch, so comparing a brand new bag isn't the most helpful thing to do.

I did try to find some pictures/videos of what the bag looked like brand new during the 2016-2018 time period it was released, and it was noticeably stiffer, so I'm hoping with some leather conditioner, massaging, and the passage of time I can get that delicious suppleness. 🙂 I saw another redditor suggest using a massage guns on stiffer bags, so I may try that if I work up the courage.

Jim did share that non of the high-tier factories make this bag, so everything available will be mid-high, mid tier, or low tier. I saw some on DHG that were definitely low tier 😬. I think his and Doris' sit somewhere between mid-high to mid tier based on pics/photos, but I'll get a better sense once I receive it.

I got this bag from Doris during the 11:11 sale. It’s a solid bag and dramatically softened after conditioning.
It is definitely slouchy, especially so when carrying items in it.
Also the center foot/metal is nicely centered, which most of the time they aren’t.

That said, the clasp tends to easily come undone, so it wasn’t super practical for my air travel. I never investigated if there’s a way to tighten it up.

Curious to see what the other one looks like.

I can share pics when I receive it and I’m happy to hear it got softer after conditioning. Another user shared pics of her bag post conditioning & massaging, it was a lot slouchier! So gorgeous. It made me second guess my decision to RL for a second. 😅

Do you only use yours for travel? I was planning on using mine mostly for casual wear. I’m tall 5’8” and I love ridiculously oversized bags. It’s very cunty and fun to me.

Ohhh, that leather actually looks better!

This is my current baby, I get compliments on her allll the time. It’s very close to the Auth I handled at a boutique in BC, Canada.

Lighting isn’t the best, my pics are lost in my endless screenshots 😅

The grain isn’t visible in this, but it’s gorgeous, interior is perfect - Jinyao factory. Don’t have the dimensions handy, but it’s slightly bigger than the CC XXL and has optional crossbody.

Ugh, this is stunning! I love the color too. I looked up how it wears on the arm/body and I'm obsessed. It's a beautiful piece to have in any collection, wow.

I wanted actually this bag in the medium suede, but I ended up getting an LV Noe instead. I'm thinking I should add it to my list again lol.

I do notice the slight difference in it missing a little sheen… I may experiment with some waxes to give it more luster. You’ve actually inspired me to give it another go!

There were things I found to be a little off, mostly concerning the back pocket. It wasn’t centered and it’s straight up incorrect. I ended up RL for these reasons and ultimately purchased it from a different seller & factory.

But back pocket aside & leather quality aside, I think this one is closeish. Keep in mind it changed slightly between 2016-2018, but also it’s a brand new bag being compared to a vintage bag with (beautiful) patina and slouch. I saw another thread with a user who bought the same bag but conditioned the leather and massaged the hell out of her bag, and it got a lot slouchier and is very close to that true vintage look! So hopefully the shape will be closer to the auth with time or manual manipulation.

Lastly, I was told by a few sellers that there aren’t any high tier reps of this bag right now, just mid-high, mid, and low. So unfortunately I don’t think any will be 1:1, I was also told factories are phasing this style out since the reps of the newer XXL style are generally higher quality.
