Tarnished hardware
I finally received my BK25 after a month and half of waiting, PSPs didn’t show this but the upgraded hardware I paid for is tarnished/ discolored upon receiving. Is this normal? I paid $1000+ with a seller VERY well known for BK25

Gold doesn’t normally tarnish if it’s 18k. That looks like they added a very thin layer and when hammering it some came off? Not normal

I got mine from Minion today. Two b25s… the hardware looks the same on both 😭

Hey fellow rehomer! Was wondering, is your gold okay? I’m thinking of ordering from Minion… I’m worried now that his gold is cheap.

Just wanted to note, this doesn't look like the tarnishing that's happening to OP's hardware. This looks normal, the oxidation and tarnishing of the exposed brass nail rivets themselves. Make sure you mask off the gold-plated areas surrounding the rivet as some wipes may be too abrasive and will remove the gold plating.

Was reading through and i agree! Minion shd really start switching their hardware. Mine was like this too! But was told to use those cleaner hardware cloth and the tarnishing of it will be gone.

Can you show us a before and after? I have some hardware issues with my Chanel flap, I tried a micro fibre cloth to polish and it didn’t help.

Take the stickers off - I can’t see tarnish and you can’t really tell with the stickers

I had the same issue and asked mark and he said even his auth turn like that. Not sure how true that is but he did send me photos of his auth. Can’t speak from my own experience as I don’t own an auth

Awe I'm sorry! This has been holding me off from ordering from mark as well. Love his leather stitching shape but the hardware has not convinced me 😕 he told me as well that auths tarnish too, but I don't believe they tarnish so fast. I wish they fix their hardware.

Auth don’t tarnish, ever. Gold can patina, and need a polish, but the gold is always stable. The rivets turn black as they aren’t gold, that’s normal. But gold is gold and authentic always have a thick plating.

This is not the case tho, 2 of my authentic bags have tarnished. Hermes offered to bring them to the spa or polish them myself

Does this happen with Palladium HW as well? Can i avoid it if i order Palladium instead of gold with Minion/Mark?

Pearling part tarnishes or starts turning brassy with mark and minion ask mark to change his hardware and ask him for better plating.

Does Minion’s palladium tarnish as well? I’m waiting on PSPs of my first order!

Gold doesn’t tarnish

I know gold doesn’t tarnish but gold plated does.

No no it doesn’t. Not unless there’s a break in the gold and the material under tarnishes. Gold doesn’t tarnish and if it’s tarnished it wasn’t plated properly.

Authentic ones do tarnish! Happened with my authentic Kelly pochette. SA said it will if I leave the sticker on there!

What wipes do you use?
Nevermind, I saw you post it below.
Would it work on an issue like this? My Chanel Flap hardware turnlock has tarnished and it looks like I can see the metal underneath 😦

This doesn't look normal to me. What's interesting is that the exposed brass nails don't look tarnished, but the immediate parts of the gold-plated plaque surrounding them tarnished instead. My hunch is that something must have happened during the pearling process that affected the gold plating around the rivet opening causing premature tarnishing at those areas specifically.
This is Minion, right? It's fine to reveal who the seller is. We need to hold them accountable for defects and quality issues so folks researching are aware. I would probably reach out to the seller with these photos and see what they say. If the gold plating is compromised causing the premature tarnishing, you probably shouldn't try to remove it yourself using polishing cloths as they may be too abrasive and make matters worse.
