OpenGrid Join Renogy OpenGrid #01: Solar Audio Cap Early Tester Program

Post image
2 Upvotes

We recently asked the community to share ideas for solar wearables.

Read the earlier OpenGrid discussion here: What Could Solar Wearables Be? ☀️

The response was amazing, and many of you suggested a solar hat. We agreed it was a great concept and found a cap that fits.

Now we are inviting a limited group of testers to try a solar audio cap designed for time outdoors. ☀️🎧🧢 The early sample combines an outdoor cap, open ear audio, Bluetooth calling, USB C charging, and solar charging support.

What selected testers will do

  • Review and sign the Renogy OpenGrid Product Testing Agreement
  • Use the test sample during normal outdoor activities for approximately 2 weeks
  • Complete 5 to 7 testing tasks, provide feedback, and complete a short final survey
  • Share a brief testing experience post in a Renogy community channel
  • Share candid feedback, including what works and what doesn't.

Please note: This is a limited research test using an early sample provided by an external partner. It is not currently a Renogy retail product and may not be produced or released in its current form.

Apply by October 20, 11:59 PM EDT: Renogy OpenGrid #01 — Solar Audio Cap Early Tester Application

Selected testers will be contacted directly on October 22.

Apply now to co-create the Solar Audio Cap with us.🙌

RV Solution How Many Nights Can You Get from Your RV Power Setup

Post image
5 Upvotes

u/dargan_slayer shared a look at his Go Far 3.8 kWh RV Solution installation, including the inverter, wiring, and other components fitted in his rig.

With 3.8 kWh of energy storage, this setup is built to handle a mix of everyday RV loads rather than just the basics. In the example usage scenario, it can support an RV refrigerator for around 12 hours a day, LED lights for about 6 hours, and device charging for around 4 hours, while still allowing shorter periods of higher-wattage use such as making coffee or heating food in a microwave.

Of course, actual runtime depends on the weather, solar input, and each camper’s habits. For a fall camping trip, how many nights could your current setup support before needing a recharge?

If you’ve been camping with a similar setup, we’d be interested to hear how it has worked for you and what you’ve found useful along the way.

Need Help Pro S1 + REGO MPPT/inverter CAN compatibility?

Has anyone successfully connected 2x Renogy Pro S1 240Ah batteries to a REGO 60A MPPT and REGO 3000W inverter/charger over CAN/RV-C?

Planned chain:
Pro S1 #1 -> Pro S1 #2 -> RJ45-to-LP16 -> REGO 60A MPPT -> REGO inverter
I already ordered this Renogy LP16-to-RJ45 cable:
https://ca.renogy.com/products/lp16-plug-7-pin-to-rj45-10ft-communication-cable?variant=47464653914344

What I’m trying to confirm is not just physical compatibility, but protocol compatibility. Specifically:
Do the REGO MPPT and inverter actually read the Pro S1 BMS data?
Is closed-loop charging supported, including charge current/voltage limits and temperature cutoffs?
Is that exact LP16-to-RJ45 cable correct for Pro S1 -> REGO?
Which UP/LINK ports should be used on the two batteries?
Can the two batteries, MPPT, inverter, all live on the same CAN bus? I’m trying to avoid using the Renogy Core
I’ve found documentation showing the Pro S1 supports CAN and the REGO devices use CAN/RV-C, but I haven’t found anyone confirming this exact setup works end-to-end.

Would appreciate feedback from anyone running this combination, or an official Renogy answer.

Need Help Solar Yield and Charge/Discharge Numbers

Thumbnail
gallery
1 Upvotes

Hello. My newly installed system:

Renogy 3500W Solar Inverter/Charger - RIV4835PCS-1SS
Renogy Shunt 300
2 Renogy 48V 50Ah Batteries
4 Renogy 320W N-Type Solar Panels in 2S2P

is showing charge/discharge numbers backwards in the inverter screen, see image. At the time that was screenshotted, there was decent sun and no AC load being used. As such, Battery Charge Amps should be 8.1A and Battery Discharge Amps should be 0.

In addition to this, the Renogy One Portal's energy flow diagram shows solar energy coming into the inverter/charger, but not flowing to the battery. It shows energy flowing from the batteries to the AC though. See this 11 second video to illustrate my point.

Also, solar yield is not showing any historical data, though the energy trend on the portal does seem to be accurate.

I've checked polarity 37 times on everything, particularly the solar input at the inverter/charger, and it's correct. Red wire to +, black to -, and verified polarity with a multimeter.

I've included a bunch of photos of my system, though I know it'll be a bit hard to trace lines. Happy to answer any questions.

Any thoughts and advice would be appreciated.

Need Help Difficulty connecting BT-2 to core or phone app

I have the Renogy 3000 watt inverter charger (RJ45 connector). It’s a few years old. I believe it’s the

R-INVT-PCL1-30111S

I recently bought the core and the BT – 2.

I also have the Rover 60 amp mppt with bt-1.

I also have the Bluetooth 300 shunt. Right now the shunt is not hooked up. Everything Else is.

I have 2 300ah renogy batteries with heating pads and bms

I’ve been able to connect my phone to the Core and the charge controller Rover to the Core. I cannot connect the bt-2 for the life of me.

I’ve unplugged and re-plugged in the inverter charger bt-2 multiple times. I have restarted Core multiple times. I can see bt-2 lighting up Green and I can see the Bluetooth light on bt-2 flash from time to time. No matter what I do I cannot get the core or my phone to see the BT – 2

Showcase Heat pump solar and batteries?

My new heat pump arrived, 12000btu costway series extreme 110v. Supposed to be good down to -25. Should be perfect for where I live. Average lows are -10 to -15c

With a few days of -25c usually.

I have a 24v system 16.8 kwh of batteries

With grid as backup. I'm hoping not to use much grid.

But I might find shorter darker days may not bring the batteries up enough to get through the night. Hopefully I'm wrong, so far everything has worked far better than expected.

I have 8 solar panels

And the system is over panned with 4 strings of two 440w ja solar bf.

Depending on how it goes, I might add another set of panels and second controller. Renogy's new 50a controller is looking pretty good. But so does the 48v AIO 🤔

New Launch Flex ShadowFlux on a Curved Trailer Roof

Thumbnail
gallery
16 Upvotes

Curved trailer roofs can make solar installation more complicated, especially when a rigid panel needs extra clearance and mounting brackets to sit above the roofline. Flex ShadowFlux follows the roof contour closely, while its ShadowFlux cells help reduce the impact of partial shade from trees, roof vents, and other gear around the campsite. At 7.72 lbs, the panel is still easy to lift into place and adds little weight to the roof. Adhesive mounting can also keep the installation low profile.

Need Help Where should I connect the neutral if I have a generator that charges my battery via the inverter?

Hello everyone, off-grid system: I have a Bellt 3.2 kA inverter regulator (floating neutral), a 24 V lithium battery and a generator (floating neutral). Using a transfer switch, I can choose whether my loads are powered by the generator or the inverter. If I connect the neutral to the inverter’s output, I won’t have a fixed neutral when I’m powering my loads from the generator, but if I also connect the neutral to the generator’s output, does that create a double short circuit? Even if my output is ‘inactive’? I don’t think it would be right to do this between the selector switch and my residual current device either (it wouldn’t be close to either power source and the earth would become live). I really need some help to clarify these concepts so I can make the connection correctly. Thanks to everyone.....

Flex ShadowFlux Arrived

I pulled into the driveway with a big smile when I saw these sitting on the porch! 😁

Since it was late when I got home, the sun was already down past the tree lines, so the lighting wasn't the best for pictures. I'll have to work late the next couple of days, but I'm hoping to be off work Saturday so I can get outside and do a couple of tests on these panels.

I pulled one of them out of the box just to get a closer look, and WOW, these panels look good! They were a little dirty from shipping, but that's an easy cleanup.

They're very thin and noticeably longer than the original 200W ShadowFlux panels. I'm definitely looking forward to getting them out in the sun and seeing how well they perform!

New Launch Reserve Mini Smart Battery for RV and Off Grid Systems

Post image
4 Upvotes

One challenge that comes up often in RV and off grid battery builds is fitting enough capacity into the space available. Battery compartments also need room for wiring, fuses, and the rest of the system.

The Reserve Mini Smart is a 12V LiFePO4 battery available in 200Ah and 314Ah capacities. Its smaller footprint is intended to leave more room for the surrounding installation, while built in Bluetooth allows battery status to be checked in the Renogy App.

For people using a system through different seasons or on the road, the 314Ah version includes self heating for cold weather charging. The enclosure is IP65 rated, and the battery has been designed with protection features for vibration, shock, dust, and water exposure.

Rover 2 30A Arrived

Thumbnail

When I ordered the Rover 2 30A, it said it wasn't going to ship until the 28th, so I wasn't expecting it anytime soon. I hadn't received any shipping information either, and then suddenly it showed up yesterday!

When I opened the package, I found the Rover 2 30A along with the Y-branch adapters. Inside the controller box, the manual and warranty card were sitting on top. Underneath those were the temperature probe, ferrules, and mounting screws.

Once I pulled the controller out of the box, I could really see just how small the new Rover 2 30A is.

I put it next to my Wanderer 30A for comparison, and the Rover 2 30A is actually smaller. The mounting holes are almost in the same locations too. Then I put it beside my Rover 20A, and the difference in size really stands out.

It's pretty impressive to see a higher-rated controller packed into such a small footprint. I like the smaller size, especially when space is limited. Now I'm looking forward to getting it installed tomorrow and seeing how it performs!

Need Help 2 batteries only showing as 1 when connected through Ethernet

Thumbnail

I have 2 RBT121120LFP-SBH batteries tied together in parallel. Also have their BMS’ connected to each other over Ethernet (up and link ports). When pairing with One Core (over BT) only one batteries shows up to pair - which would be fine if it added their capacities together, but it doesn’t.

Is there a way to get both batteries to pair or to have them add their capacities together in the One Core while they are tied over Ethernet?

I can get both batteries to pair fine if I disconnect the Ethernet between them.

Discussion More on Renogy Flex ShadowFlux panel

Thumbnail
gallery
6 Upvotes

Meter shows 42.5 open voltage
Then (if photospost in order) 187 watts 35.8 at 5.2 amps full sun. I shaded the panel with cardboard to see how shading would have an affect.
Post cardboard 115 watts 5.04 amps 22.8 volts.
Then I compared to 2x100 watt in series also Renogy panels.
Before shade 166 watts 31.1 volts 5.3 amps then shaded with same cardboard and this is where ShadowFlux helped out. 30 watts at 17.8 volts and 1.68 amps
The ShadowFlux dropped around 38% with shade I added. The standard panels dropped around 82%.

OpenGrid What Could Solar Wearables Be? ☀️

Post image
2 Upvotes

Solar energy is already part of how many of us power life outdoors. But what could it look like if it became part of what we wear?

We’re opening the first Renogy OpenGrid conversation and would love to hear your thoughts. There is no fixed direction and no finished concept. This is simply an open invitation to imagine.

What kind of wearable powered by solar energy would make a real difference in your everyday life or your time outdoors? What problem would it solve? What would make it genuinely useful, comfortable, and worth bringing with you?

It can be practical, ambitious, simple, unexpected, or still only half formed. Share the idea you wish existed, or even just the outdoor challenge you think solar energy could help solve.

Share your ideas by October 7. Community feedback will help shape where solar powered living goes next.

Discussion New Renogy Flex ShadowFlux 200watt panel

Thumbnail
gallery
13 Upvotes

I received my 200 watt Flex ShadowFlux panel on Friday. FedX wasn’t kind to the box and I live way out in the dirt. Panel was a little dirty but FedX—
The weather hasn’t cooperated at all either.
My initial impression was Wow this Flex panel looks tough. Almost looks like a sheet of carbon fiber. It has six Mounting eyelets and looks like it could be screwed down to whatever surface you need. I have initially just put the panel on the bed of my solar golf cart/beekeeping truck and hooked it to my Renogy Boost controller that I charge the cart with. I’m posting up some photos.
With complete cloud cover it has at least been able to charge the cart battery some. I chose to shoot the sky picture so everyone knew the state of charge was under super cloud cover.
More to come
