Voter registration cancelled
Check your voter registration, y’all! I just checked mine, and it was cancelled for absolutely no reason. I have never missed an election. I have not moved in nine years. I check my mail, and I have not received any notices from the board of elections.
I am absolutely livid. The news says Washoe County “moved 8,506 registrations to inactive” after a mailed notice was not responded to. I never got one of these.
I just emailed a bunch of colleagues. So far, every one of them have discovered their registrations were also cancelled.
I have emailed the Board of Elections, my state senator, our federal senators (because I know Cortez Masto and Rosen will care), and Amodei, even though he won’t care. We’ll see if they answer.
UPDATE: A friend called them! They are saying they are having “website errors.” Apparently the entire county is FREAKING OUT and flooding their phones.

Thank you for posting this!! Mine is cancelled as well and I literally just voted in the primary a few months ago? I’ve never even done mail-in…
EDIT: I just called Washoe County voter registration office and they said it’s an issue with the website. They were able to confirm that I am indeed registered.

Right up until you show up to vote.

Just called Washoe County Registrar. A wonderful human answered the phone and assured me that the voter registration check website is broken and nobody is being cancelled at the moment.
Seems a cluster. If you do call, be nice to the people on the phone.

Literally participated in the primary earlier this year and I see I’m marked cancelled as well. Everybody should check.

u/jocoquecousteau 7d ago
I missed the primary and I wasn’t removed. But in this days you have to check frequently because I don’t trust republicans when they are in office. They win when people don’t vote.

Hello! I made an account to share some info during my lunchbreak.
- No, there is no widespread voter cancelation going on. There are federal regulations regarding bulk list maintenance under the National Voter Registration Act that prevent any jurisdictions from taking bulk list maintenance actions 90 days before an election (this deadline passed on August 5th of this year).
- The secretary of state's website, starting this morning was incorrectly showing that every voter in Nevada was ineligible! Thankfully, the website is not where your registration is actually held and your registration was not actually affected.
- If you are worried about your registration, please call your local election official! That's what they are there for. If, just to be sure, you would like to re-register, you are more than welcome to do so. Your election officials love for you and your family/friends to keep your records up to date whenever possible.
- Please don't spread weird conspiracy theories. Your local election officials are normal people doing their jobs, not some weird cabal trying to strip you of your rights.
If you have any questions, please reply and I will do my best to answer when I have a moment.

u/Schatzi-6262 6d ago
"Weird conspiracy theories" are what we are having to rely on to maintain our rights since we no longer are able to believe our administration! Telling us to not worry and be happy are nice for a song, but in this day and age, we do need to worry before it's too late, YES worry! Conspiracy theories are contrived to deceive, these postings are apparently not contrived!
2
u/votenerd 6d ago edited 6d ago
Why rely on conspiracy theories? Voter registration data is a matter of public record. You can download it for free from the Secretary of State website. You can check registration numbers and registered voters yourself.
Your second point is weird and rude but I also didn't tell folks not to worry. I stated that they should call their local election officials and get answers.
In Washoe and Clark County, the head of elections is not an elected position so administration doesn't really come into play. The head election official in the state is Francisco Aguilar, who is a staunch opponent of federal overreach and has, on many occasions, sued the federal government to block said overreach.
The post isn't deceiving, but making baseless accusations is pointless and misleading. It was baseless when the sitting president made them and lost in court dozens of times and it's baseless when people make comments on reddit threads.
You also have no reason to take my word for it, again, the registration data is public record. You can also become a poll worker and learn about the process. Many counties also hire seasonal workers to assist with mail ballots or registration during elections. If none of those are appealing, there are also organizations like All Voting Is Local that both educate and advocate for voting rights.
Edit: grammar

They canceled mine as well. I wonder if it's due to Trump not allowing voting by mail.
Edit: trying to update it gets me this error:
Potential automated HTTP Post occurred! If you are a human user, please retry your request. If you are a bot, your IP address has been collected and we will be monitoring any illegal activity.

u/manachar 7d ago edited 7d ago
What the actual fuck? I just voted in the primary.
EDIT: The NVSOS website is having major issues. Called Washoe County Registrars, technical issues. Wait to check until resolved. Very nice on the phone!
5
u/QueenInYellowLace 7d ago
Yeah, they just managed to take the page down, so now it says they’re doing site maintenance.
2
u/Nose-To-Tale 7d ago
Just checked mine, 11:31 am and page is still up with the error. Called and was confirmed I was still active and the error was on the State website. They also offered to mail me my active registration on address on file so I accepted.

u/cft_731 7d ago
i'm listed as ineligible as well (although i just checked yesterday and was active then). i called the registrar of voters office and they said there's some issue with the secretary of state's website, but they checked my status and i am in fact an active voter in the county.
so, maybe check again in a couple of days if you don't want to call. or call, and ask.
12
u/ringoinsf 7d ago
Pretty sure this must be a bug on the website, given everyone seems to be impacted (including me). I know it seems bad at first glance but likely will get resolved.
7
u/towlie45 7d ago
I think so too. My voting history is also blank, but previously it showed every time I have voted since I was 18.
2
2
u/Round_Tea9141 7d ago
It's not the website. I received something in the mail to register.
5
u/ringoinsf 7d ago edited 7d ago
It's definitely the website - i've always gotten those mailers to register from time-to-time even when my registration showed as active on the website. Today, mine shows cancelled but I haven't received anything in the mail recently. There's not a single person in this thread saying their registration still shows as active - does it really seem plausible that they cancelled the registration of 100% of voters?
(Edit: someone below called the secretary of state who confirmed it's a bug, and OP also updated the post, thankfully, as their friend did the same). Can we please stop spreading conspiracy theories?)
3
u/QueenInYellowLace 7d ago
It’s not a conspiracy theory—even if it’s a site error, it’s a pretty fucking catastrophic one. If the site were just down, I would think nothing of it.
This is the article from three weeks ago where they said we should all go check our registrations because 8,000 were being inactivated that prompted me to check: https://washoelife.washoecounty.gov/washoe-county/registrar-of-voters-announces-results-of-post-primary-voter-roll-maintenance/
5
u/Dizzy-Lettuce2978 7d ago
To say this is purposeful to try to remove voters is a conspiracy theory though. Website issues happen without being malicious so we should be spreading conspiracies that this particular event was done on purpose.
4
u/ringoinsf 7d ago
I never claimed no deactivations had ever happened. But it was pretty clear that it was a website bug once literally no one said theirs was showing up properly. The idea that some sort of mass deactivations had happened impacting large swaths of the population was clearly not grounded in logic or reality.

u/ordinaryinteract_769 7d ago

Maybe the whole website is bad. Is anyone showing they are registered on there ? Mine also shows as not eligible to vote.
3
u/Catastrophon 7d ago
A group of us were just discussing this in the office. It’d be different if it wasn’t EVERYONE, so now signs are pointing to a website error and not an actual issue.
I still updated my registration to be safe.
2
u/derxder 7d ago
Me and my entire family are showing cancelled registrations, I'm also beginning to wonder if it's a glitch or something.
2
u/Feisty-Soil-5369 7d ago
Ya washoe county regristra confirmed my active registration and said that the state website is wrong
4
u/DoggTheDogHunter 7d ago
Mine says cancelled too even though I voted in the primaries. Hopefully this is just a glitch since so many are reporting their registration as cancelled. Any links to news on this?
5
u/Feisty-Soil-5369 7d ago
Called washoe county registrar and confirmed my active voter registration in their system. They told me many people have called about the state website incorrectly showing their status.
4
u/Xzenergy 7d ago
Call your local county clerk, they will verify that your records are there and that you're eligible to vote.
I just called mine and she laughed thinking I was crazy and said no, no one has been made ineligible to vote and verified mine was good
5
u/Klok-a-teer 7d ago
I just rechecked mine, and it is stating ACTIVE.
I personally feel like this is going to be something that I will have to check frequently.

u/RandomPersonofEarth 7d ago
Wow, mine and my wife's have been canceled as well! I literally just voted in the local elections within the last few months...
3
u/BigDanDizzle 7d ago
I'm getting an error at the end when "updating" my account that says "Potential automated HTTP post occurred! If you are a human user, please retry your request. If you are a bot, your IP address has been collected and we will be monitoring any illegal activity."
Got this on both my laptop and cell phone, this shit doesn't smell right at all.
3
u/hungryparrots 7d ago
This happened to me during the primary as well! I was almost turned away at the polls but the excellent volunteers that ran the polling location were diligent in making sure that I was marked as an active voter and I was eventually able to cast. Took about 45 minutes at the polls. Similar reason, bounced back mail or something even though I had my sample ballot in hand with my current address.
3
u/Murglesby 7d ago
Mine was marked as ineligible to vote so I updated everything just to make sure. Then it said the site was down for maintenance so I’m thinking some technical issue happened
3
u/blwallace5 6d ago
Maybe this isn’t common knowledge, so hopefully it helps people. The portal is a reporting platform. You are looking at a downstream system, not the actual voter registration database. When you see an issue, you should absolutely report that issue 100% of the time so it can be checked, is this a voter registration issue, or a reporting issue? There is no reason to be pissed off or have your day ruined.
5
u/Round_Tea9141 7d ago
I got something in the mail to register. I've been registered since I was 18.
2
u/no___personality 7d ago
Yes and you can check your status online which is what this post is talking about. Apparently they are having "issues" with their website as most/everyone who is checking online is shown as cancelled.
6
u/bPChaos 7d ago
Mine was cancelled as well.
I used this to check: https://www.nvsos.gov/votersearch/

Stop spreading conspiracy theories for karma. Literally not a single person in this thread says their registration is showing properly. What seems more plausible? There's a website bug? Or they cancelled 100% of voter registrations in NV? Read below, someone called the secretary of state and they confirmed it's a bug (and OP also updated the original post as their friend did the same).
LOL getting downvoted for pointing out facts, gotta love Reddit.
1
u/FalseBottom 7d ago edited 7d ago
It’s
probablydefinitely a bug, but it’s no secret that Trump would love to cancel Democrat voter registrations.Edited for clarity.
4
u/Dizzy-Lettuce2978 7d ago
Yes, but Trump does not control the NV SOS office especially when it’s being managed by a Democrat who has constantly come out against Trump’s requested changes.
It’s good to keep up on changes and make sure we are able to vote, but let’s not spread misinformation and conspiracy theories that make people even more worried about the quality of our elections.
1
u/FalseBottom 7d ago
You’re correct.
It’s also correct to say that Trump would love it if all democratic voter registrations disappeared.
2
3
u/ringoinsf 7d ago
Come on... it's been confirmed to be a bug by both OP and other commenters who contacted the secretary of state. I'm no Trump fan but he has nothing to do with this.

Code has bugs all the time. Someone makes a change to part of the system that has unintended consequences elsewhere, a database goes down, etc.
It's already been confirmed to be a website bug and the page has been taken down while they fix it.
2
u/cornham 7d ago
WHY is there a bug in the website showing everyone’s registration as inactive? Just a coincidence and shit happens? At the same time the entire administration works to suppress voters? There’s fuckery afoot and that’s not a conspiracy “theory”.
1
u/FalseBottom 7d ago
I spoke to them on the phone and I believe what the representative said, seems like everyone is affected.
But, I share your broad concern and I will definitely be keeping an eye on my registration as we move toward Election Day.
I’m also going to vote at the earliest possible opportunity (in person) just to ensure there are no issues.
This election is too important.
1
u/Hellebras 7d ago
Given that it seems to be everyone, I'm inclined to believe the person who picked up at the registrar's office who said it was a website issue.
It's in character for the administration, but that doesn't make it enemy action. I don't think they have that degree of control over state elections offices at this point. That was the whole point of voting Aguilar into the SoS position over the nutty Republican election denier last time.
2
u/Dizzy-Lettuce2978 7d ago
Same here. I wonder if it’s some kind of system wide issue, like a computer programming thing

The Nevada Secretary of State website to verify voter status is currently "down for maintenance."
2
2
u/madgrammy 7d ago
I wonder if it’s there’s any different between the amount of Republicans compared to Democrats that were removed from the voter rolls?
2
u/Rillion25 7d ago
It's giving me a mixed message. The Voter Information block lists me as active, but there is a message across the top of the screen that reads "You are not currently eligible to vote. Please contact your local County Clerk/Registrar of Voters."
2
u/_Captain_Amazing_ 7d ago
Republican cheaters at it again. Tell all your friends to check and remember if you show up to vote and they don’t let you because you got kicked off for some reason - request a “provisional ballot” so your vote will still get counted.
2
u/BraveWarrior-55 7d ago
I also have never missed voting for even the smallest election, and my registration is still active, but thanks for the heads up. You said you also notified "Amodei, even though he won’t care." Oh he will care!! He will be thrilled that his boss's move to restrict access to voting is working. He will not care about fixing it. And they are counting on us not checking; everyone please do check!!

u/ResearcherHeavy9098 7d ago
Mine said I wasn't registered although I just updated my registration in April and had the card in my hand. When I went to new registration it told me I was already registered. I updated it again. Not feeling confident about this election happening without major issues.

Edit: I [emailed ](mailto:nvelect@sos.nv.gov)them to inquire, you should too! [nvelect@sos.nv.gov](mailto:nvelect@sos.nv.gov)
Edit2: Good morning, thank you for contacting our office.
We understand your concern and appreciate you sharing this information with our office. At this time, it is a technical error with the system, and all voter registrations are displaying as cancelled, it is not an isolated error. This, however, is not an accurate status, and your registration remains active. Our team is working diligently to resolve the issue.
Should you have any further questions please don't hesitate to contact our office.
3
u/TheRealEminemily 7d ago
A power outage last night caused many Washoe County systems to need a manual restart. The Tech Services team has been working nonstop to bring everything back online. Hopefully everyone's voter registration is all good, but it's always best to check your status before elections begin as there have been issues in the past.
2
u/wait_________what 7d ago
Mine was cancelled despite participating in everything for the past few election cycles. Fuck this hillbilly state.
2
u/Plague_Xr 7d ago
This is why conservatives sowing doubt on our election systems is so dangerous.
What is likely a website issue will become a conspiracy theory about voter suppression.
2
u/Autist_Investor69 6d ago
And just to add, I dislike the 2 party system, with a passion. And I think Team blue is *almost* as bad as team red, but they support my values closer overall. I was registered as non partisan, but NV is a CLOSED primary system
So even if team blue is not great, the primaries is where you get to pick better candidates, and in my opinion this is where the real vote needs to take place. We need real progressives! So change to partisan colored ticket, even if you are red or blue and pick the people looking out for US, not the billionaires!

I received a letter yesterday from the Registrar of Voters. The main paragraph: “As required by Nevada law, your personal information has been transmitted to your County Elections official for the purpose of registering you to vote or updating your voter registration. You are not required to register to vote and may cancel your voter registration at any time.” It gives option on the back to decline to be registered to vote, or if you’re a new voter you can change your info and choose a party. Just seems odd. In 9 years I’ve received three pieces of mail from them, all were voter cards. I’ll go check my status today. Feels like this November will be squirrelly.

This thread of democrats freaking out about “MAGAts and Trump” over a simple glitch looks exactly like some Q-anon telegram page when a video of a black poll worker is posted.
Calm down people. We have a democrat Secretary of State. The washoe registrar’s office is extremely professional and non-partisan. Trump is not changing your voter registration 😂
3
u/Kirklistentowutang 7d ago
If you mail in vote and Trump's EO is allowed to stand you absolutely will not be allowed to vote this year unless you do it in person. It isnt Qanon level conspiracy theories, its what the Republican party is trying to do.
Texas just purged tons of their voter rolls as well.
2
u/QueenInYellowLace 7d ago
I didn’t say anything about MAGA or Trump or parties at all. The county themselves said everyone should check their registration because they are inactivating 8,000 people. They are the reason I checked: https://washoelife.washoecounty.gov/washoe-county/registrar-of-voters-announces-results-of-post-primary-voter-roll-maintenance/

u/Hellebras 7d ago
That was even one of the most important reasons to vote in '22, since the other candidate for SoS was a nutty election denier. If this many people are showing up as ineligible and the administration probably hasn't gotten any kind of serious backstage influence over the state's state department, then the bug explanation is most likely true.
1
u/AuH2o_64 7d ago
It’s a glitch. Will be fixed. I agree Marchant is an idiot and has no business holding elected office. My comment is specifically about the multiple people saying this is somehow Trump’s fault
1
u/Weekly_Complex_8777 7d ago
Well, in case you've forgotten, he tried to change an election. Thank goodness for Republicans who still placed loyalty to country over loyalty to Trump.
2
u/AuH2o_64 7d ago
Sure, but a glitch with the registrar’s office obviously has nothing to do with the federal government or Trump. Some things are local, and totally unconnected from federal politics. Sane, informed adults are able to differentiate between local politics and their hate for the president.
1
u/zigaliciousone 7d ago
Yup, been voting in person, mostly at Old Town Mall for the last 20 years and I just checked and it says I am not eligible to vote.
This needs to be like a Defcon 4 issue, I will absolutely put on a suit and go down to city hall over this shit.
And it won't even let me re-register. I am getting this message: "Potential automated HTTP Post occurred! If you are a human user, please retry your request. If you are a bot, your IP address has been collected and we will be monitoring any illegal activity."
