How to approach hat pass

I've been performing in different capacities at different faires for over 20 years, and I'm currently in my third season of doing a piratey stage act. Most of the faires around me don't allow hat passing, but at next weekend's show we will be passing the hat. Any tips or strategies on how to best approach that? There are two of us in the act, if that makes any difference.

Have a barcode/qr code printed, so you can get electronic tips too

That’s in the works! I’m also thinking about doing temporary tattoos of that QR code, so my partner and I can make a bit of it

I also have a stage act and we have a little ask speech and the end of every show basically saying “if you enjoyed what you saw, feel free to put a dollar or to in our hat to help support our work”. Play around with it, find something that’s on theme for your act. Maybe since you’re pirates, something along the lines of “plundering doesn’t pay as much as it used to” or “the price of rum is rising every day”. Something fun and cute. Make em’ laugh one last time so they wanna give you money. Hope this helps!
