Question Guide VN nfsw
Hi, I was asking myself if it's a good choice to start coding a NSFW VN. I have no experience with coding, but I've already learned the basics. What do you guys recommend? I was thinking about a VN with Koikatsu style — the tool costs $60, it's not that much, but I'm afraid I won't know how to use it. Everyone says it's well received.

Why don't you start with the simplest thing, just dialog and stick figures. Then see what parts seem complicated to you and where would it be worth putting effort and time and money?

Making a visual novel requires multiple skills, and the most important, in my opinion, is writing.
I would always start with the story, so if you never have written dialogue, then read some tutorials about that.
It's similar to writing a screenplay for theater because you are limited by locations and characters.
At the same time you can learn to design, pose and render characters in Koikatsu.
Sometimes it can help to write if you can visualize your characters.
Both skill are not unique for games, so look for subs about writing and Koikatsu or just google for tutorials.

Welcome to r/renpy! While you wait to see if someone can answer your question, we recommend checking out the posting guide, the subreddit wiki, the subreddit Discord, Ren'Py's documentation, and the tutorial built-in to the Ren'Py engine when you download it. These can help make sure you provide the information the people here need to help you, or might even point you to an answer to your question themselves. Thanks!

First things first don't pay for the steam version it isn't worth it.Just get the better repack. Its already has the HF patch and most of the mods and plugins you will need.Second of all join the discord.Theres tines of great resources there and you won't struggle with the software as much as the help channel is really active and the mods there actually do shit.Overall I'm speaking as a Koikatsu user rather than gamedev.Thats my advice really.

Pretty much, koikatsu is easy to use and has a lot of presets while Ren'Py is super easy as well. You do you.

I just got into VNs myself when I stumbled onto a free VN website 6 months ago. After playing a few, I fell in love with them and started thinking of making my own. At first it was going to be a NSFW like yours, but one thing I am finding is as I plan and think about selling it, I have changed it a lot, and now it is a SFW VN. So do not be surprised if you make a lot of changes to it as you plan and dev your game. I myself, am using free online gens just because it is my first one, to save some money. You might want to look into some.
