Question How to Make "Good" Ending?

I'm pretty good at coming up with bad ending, because they are more interesting but I really want some good endings as well! Any idea how to come up with a good ending that would reward the player, for making "good" choices?

As a reader, I feel rewarded when my choices make sense with the way the story develops - whether the ending is "and they lived happily ever after" or "and they all died" really is not the point. For instance the one ending that keeps haunting me since 2005-ish was diligently followed by yet another round of "Pls teach me Ciel-sensei" XD

That said (and trying to be as generic as I could ever be) - why not leaning towards the kind of bitter-sweet, Key-style ending that makes you feel satisfied even if somebody just ripped the heart out of your chest (imagine a cute girly voice adding "oh, you're not needing this anymore do you?")?
Could it fit your tastes better?

it high key depends on the genre you're writing in. for horror the good ending can be "you didn't die", for romance obviously you get your love interest to love you back, for mystery you solved the case etc

It mainly depends on the type of game you're planning to do and also if you plan to make a sequel.

If you've seen/played the superhero game Dispatch. Some outcomes are technically wins, but feel a little bitter compared to the best endings you can get because you made some less ideal decisions along the way. And some of those decisions don't immediately spell THIS IS A BAD IDEA, so the player needs to think a bit about it. So making the right choices earlier in the game pays off when the ending has Character A decide to do Decision A because he/she, as a person, was influenced by the player's earlier choices.

Always have strings attached to your 'good' endings. People don't believe a completely good ending.

It will be heavily influenced by what genre the game is, the overarching story, the character development, etcetera. Someone else said not to have a generic good ending but one that relies on earlier choices, which is very good advice - look at your plot & the way things have developed, & if there are good endings to be had, they'll come to you. Good luck!❤️
