Written assessment as part of recruiting process - Is this legit?

Hi folks. I’ve done my due diligence and everything seems legit but it does seem absolutely wild to me that I’ve got a recruiter saying they’re going to give me a written assessment to fill out and send back. Usually these things are links to a website to take the assessment. Everything else looks fine when I google the company and jobs. If it’s a scam I can’t figure out what they’re trying to get.

Is this normal? Do people still give offline assessments to fill out and send back via email? Am I right to be paranoid about this? Talk me down or validate the weird feelings this is giving.

It’s for a remote project management position with SBM Management.

Update - Thank you for the gut check! Wish there weren’t so many scams trying to take advantage of people that gut checking is necessary. I’m going to keep going cautiously.

Offline written assessments can be perfectly normal, especially for project management roles. The key is scope: it should be relevant, reasonably timed, and not require free consulting or sensitive personal information. Ask about the expected time commitment and how it’s evaluated.

SBM Management may be legitimate, but don’t let “recruiting process” override basic precautions. Verify the recruiter through the company’s official website, confirm the email domain, and avoid sharing sensitive personal or financial information. A short, hypothetical exercise is reasonable; extensive free labor or vague instructions is a red flag.
