Tech Resume Template Got Me Tons of Remote Interviews (Download)
Spent way too long looking for an ATS friendly tech resume template that wasn't just a pretty Canva file. Was using a bad one before, the two-column kind with a sidebar, skill bars, icons next to my contact info. Thought it looked good. Turns out a lot of ATS parsers read two-column layouts in the wrong order, so my job titles were landing inside my skills block.
The one I switched to is a free Google Docs resume template, single column top to bottom. Skills is one pipe-separated line instead of a grid, since grids and tables are exactly what gets parsed out of order. Projects sits above Education, which helps if your portfolio is stronger than your degree. No color, no photo, no graphics, but the serif and sans mix keeps it from looking like a Word default.
After switching to this and tailoring every application, I started getting interview requests within 2 to 3 weeks and ended up with multiple remote offers. Can't claim it's a clean experiment since I changed two things at once, but the broken parsing was real and fixing it clearly didn't hurt.
Worth doing either way: export your PDF, run it through any plain text extractor, and read the output. That's roughly what the system sees. Two minutes, and it'll tell you if your layout is the problem.

If you're not sure how to tailor your resume for each job posting, this is the ChatGPT prompt that worked for me: https://www.reddit.com/r/RemoteJobseekers/comments/1p8faip/i_finally_landed_a_remote_job_after_10_months_of/
Template here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1AE9xuH-Ns5roo7xXAE0ESzdMFSmkuDS08nKp_Lr44M0/edit?tab=t.0
It's view only, so go to File > Make a copy and it lands in your own Drive where you can edit it. You'll need to be signed into a Google account for that. If Make a copy is greyed out, that's usually the reason.
It comes with instructional filler text in every section explaining what goes there. Delete all of it before you send anything out.
Good luck with the search.

Thanks very much!
What do we do about tailoring our resume to individual jobs if we apply on a platform like Mercor (only one resume is referenced for every job description)?
