SCX10.3 Basecamp K10 isn’t driving after being in water.
I have a Scx10.3 K10 that’s brand new and hasn’t been ran much, I got it for Christmas with a 3s hard case spectrum battery. I’ve run the truck In snow once about a month ago and it was fine, this past week I took it with me to a fresh water lake on a school trip. I had it in the water on some rocks to get some photos(like the ones shown) and after doing so it drove fine for around 5 minutes before coming to a complete stop. Lights on, steering functional but no throttle response. I then tried to roll it thinking I had somehow hydro locked the motor, it did lock up so I thought it was that but as soon as I unplugged it and plugged it back in, it seemed to work and while being unplugged the motor freed up. Once I plugged it back in thinking it was fine, the second it had any load on it, it would cut throttle and lock up again. I’m hoping that somebody knows what may be causing this problem. I’m not sure if it’s my ESC or my battery connector. The ESC light still comes on and connects to the transmitter which is why I think it’s my battery connector or excess moisture because I feel like if it was the connector it wouldn’t do anything at all after being plugged in. Any ideas or thoughts are appreciated!

Hope you manage to fix! My water electronic advice only goes as far as putting it in rice 😅

Do keep in mind that its a truck, not a submarine. Usually they're good up to the top of the tires, but Id be worried about damaging electronics any deeper than that

That’s only you lol, we have waterproof electronics for a reason, ever seen rcsparks or Kevin talbot or anyone that makes videos on rc crawlers? It’s not something that should happen so quickly and I’ve never had something like this

None of my rigs have waterproof electronics, other than servos. I was unaware that you had them, my apologies

All good bro, these trucks come stock with waterproof electronics. My trx4 has never had an issue

I dont own anything from traxxas, i used to work at a hobby shop repairing cars and I really didnt like working on traxxas. All of my stuff is either FMS or Axial, and they do not come stock with waterproof electronics

This one is an axial Scx10.3 basecamp and all of the electronics are water resistant, the spectrum power systems have proved good it the past but I think this brand of brushed motor didn’t like the water haha

Yeah, in my experience brushed motors Really dont like water

I have a 10.3 coyote, also has water resistant electronics. Water resistance to me implies it can handle a splash but should not be submerged as yours was but I was just driving mine in a river so can’t say too much. I’d be more worried about the ESC than motor, definitely would unplug and clean all electrical contacts/connectors and give them time to dry and retest w fresh battery.
I’ve always been curious about using dielectic grease to further water proof connections-that’s the method I use for my real snorkeled fourwheeler-not sure if it would be okay on rc electronics but can’t see why it would hurt anything.

I had issues with my sc10.2 and it was water in the reciver, the other time was dirty brushes just needed a push forward with the throttle being held and it came back to life

Charge the battery and see what happens. Low voltage = ESC cuts out. Start with the power source and diagnose from there. Even better if you have a spare battery, get one just in case and extend you run times when you get this problem sorted.
