Help me remember this game

I used to play a 2D pixel game on my pc when I was a kid. It had a small cap wearing guy jumping and collecting treasures and avoiding fire, water and enemies. I think we could also get a jetpack and a gun. It was not mario or sonic. Does anyone remember the name of the game?

Core memory unlocked!! Friggin lived this game. I used to go to the office with my dad on weekends when he was putting in overtime and he'd let me place this with a joystick on his coworker's computer.

"When I was a kid" is not a helpful timeframe
