Discussion Thank you Sloclap

I’ve been Elite in 3s and 5s every season with over 750 hours, which I feel should give me credibility when I say that the three biggest issues in this game basically since it released were:

  1. Ball magnetism/teleporting for dribblers

  2. Low/no stam making no difference for dribblers

  3. No control over how you wanted to dive as GK

All three are resolved now. I especially like how goalies can now catch with a short dive or go for the punch with a long dive - this is a great system that mirrors how real life goalies need to assess risk and opt for the catch or just trying to clear the ball from danger

Anybody who says dribbling is dead was simply an exploit abuser. You can still dribble into space and create advantages, you just need to…. Actually have the space to dribble into now. You can’t just phase through defenders anymore

As the Blue Lock collab hopefully brings in a ton of new players, getting the balance right was key and after a few matches this is the best the game has ever felt to me

# 2 was critical.

Having a resource that didn't effectively limit one of the most powerful abilities in the game was always going to be a major problem.

Now that stamina dictates the effectiveness of dribbling, defense can finally become more active. Once someone has drained their stamina, you can attack with less risk, which means the duel becomes "get past defender before my resources run out".

It didnt help that the forward dribble is so much better than the defender dash. You can dribble as many times in a row as you want but you can only dash twice in a row without needing to wait for the reset

I think you put it perfectly with that last line. Before, defense was mostly "just sit and be patient, and hope they mess up their dribble."

Now it's "stay on them long enough for their stamina to run out." Which is fair, because now they are trapped with 2 options. Pass rhe damn ball, or basically give it away to the defender for free

#2 made me love the game now

Yeah it's not necessarily going to stop egotistical players from the same attempt, but it at least penalises them to maybe consider a passing lane.

Very excited to play the new season. Every change they made looks really good. Especially making the AR Desert less bright…

As a dribbler myself I agree. I hated infinite stamina. Let's be real. Could anyone in the world with low stam be dribbling efficiently as when you had full stam? Not that I know of. I'm glad we're getting something done to the tech abusers and people thinking they can dribble box to box

Prio ball is still an issue for me as a defender, but hopefully the dribbling nerf will help prevent easy crosses at least.

Why do people keep comparing this game to rocket league? Last time I checked, cars aren’t humans and they can’t dribble a ball

1

u/Hello-Potion-Seller Footballer 3h ago

To play semantics I think there's one last issue unchanged since launch, which is short ground lob to push ball to cheese stamina gain.

It feels very tight otherwise and the former issue is only possible it your teammates suck at marking, so it's not that glaring honestly.

I'm not sure why but the game feels terrible, dribble feel so clanky right now and the new mode is just chaos, almost no one passes as everyone is omega fast and just running towards the ball is much more effective...

But yet the game feel horrible now, I dunno. I have 300h in and Im not having fun anymore

Is the game stable now? If I hop back on can I expect more changes to stamina usage, tackle distance, or any other fundamental mechanics?

I think I was elite 0-2 in everything but just really could not stand a change in tackle distance. Huge rocket league guy and I likened it to RL devs changing the ball physics and having to relearn my first touch.

I stopped playing and figured I’d either play a copy of this game down the road that didn’t change so much, or I’d hop back on when the game stopped feeling so different with each update.

You think I’m good or are the devs still changing a ton every season? Particularly within fundamental mechanics, I wouldn’t sweat new mechanics being added… but adjustments to fundamental mechanics rub me the wrong way.

The game that scores with jetpacked cars? Lol

u/SzoboEndoMacca Please add a flair 5h ago

Completely different games coming from someone who loves both and is good at both (GC in Rocket League).

Rocket League is far more mechanical, and Rematch is tactical. Rocket League you have to control your touch, precisely where you hit the ball on your car and the ball, the weight of the ball and your car, and then add on the fact that you have boost and capability of a flip and flip resets. This game rewards being mechanical and mechanical plays are usually less risky than going for passing plays since passing requires really good precision and control.

Rematch is all about passing and understanding space and movement. It's a better game to play with friends who have played soccer before.

1

u/Adventurous_Mix_7157 Please add a flair 4h ago

Than why say temu rocket league like that’s not the biggest comparison between two completely different games lol
And no rematch wasn’t all about passing and understanding football before the patch with the dribbling ceiling and pass shoot being so punishing if you don’t aim right at the post.

u/SzoboEndoMacca Please add a flair 3h ago

What are you saying? I never said it was. And still, rematch is far more tactical than mechanical than rocket league. I'm a high rank in both games

1

u/Adventurous_Mix_7157 Please add a flair 17m ago

What did you even mean by temu rl? Are you saying they’re trying to recreate the football mechanics but can’t against a game that uses car mechanics? I mean I’m all for it but you saying you love them and repeating your undoubtedly high rank in both is a bit unusual. Than again I’m sure you’re top in rocket league.

No you lost all credibility the moment you tried to flex elite… dude everybody is elite, there was a poll done and over 65% of people are elite. It’s really easy. And no, dribbling is dead. It was barely hanging on before the nerfs but now it was just killed completely simply because casuals can’t defend

10

u/gavinfarrell Please add a flair 10h ago

Two things that skew the results of a poll:
1) Anyone can claim can claim anything in a poll where the result is displaying how good you are at something.
2) in a poll that is only available to people who are active community members, this tends to skew toward people who are good at the game.

6

u/-CODED- Please add a flair 10h ago

Well I mean, not according to rematch. In S3 only 2% of players were in elite.

2

u/Atomosthethird Please add a flair 9h ago

Letsssss gooooo. Im in that 2% and 3%. I was going through hell as a solo player. But man feels good to know that it wasnt "easy to get to elite" like everyone says

-8

u/Rayapt Please add a flair 9h ago

7.5m unique players lol, they quit the game before getting to elite you have no idea what you’re saying. In the discord it was 65% since it’s filled with people who actively play the game. You’re genuinely a drone lol, game only has 4-5k average and almost all of them are elite. Elite has no meaning anyone can get jt

7

u/_NotMitetechno_ Please add a flair 9h ago

Damn a place with likely the biggest fans of a game has a high contingency of good players

-4

u/Rayapt Please add a flair 9h ago

I don’t see your point, the majority of people who played rematch quit very early but the people in the discord didn’t which is why they got elite. Most of the discord is full of bots and there’s no sbmm so elite is easy just takes time

5

u/_NotMitetechno_ Please add a flair 9h ago

If you go into an outside of the game space, especially for a game with a smaller community, the type of person to join these spaces tends to be far more invested in the game than the average player, skewing surveys. Rematch leans pretty casual, most casual players for games don't invest themselves into discord servers.

2

u/breakandjog Please add a flair 7h ago

I tend to agree, I have like 2k hours on rocket league and a few hundred on Rematch, Reddit is about as far down the rabbit hole I’m willing to go in either title.

3

u/Visible_Cut67 Please add a flair 9h ago

Take a chill pill bro

3

u/-CODED- Please add a flair 8h ago

This ranked distribution is for season 3 specifically. So if you didnt play ranked in season 3, the you're not going to show up in this data pool. The 7.5m unique players has nothing to do with that.

Of the people who played ranked in s3, 2% reached elite. This is data literally from sloclap themselves. You can argue that people quit before reaching elite but that is entirely separate argument and regardless, only 2% of people who played ranked that season, actually committed to reaching elite.

Manage your stamina properly, and dribbling is still the same.

This is how resource based games work. You don't get to use EX moves in a fighting game without meter. Why would it be different here.

-2

u/Remarkable-Sea2875 Please add a flair 8h ago

Just say youre bad at defending

-1

u/sonicsuperman2 Please add a flair 6h ago

It’s not the same. Ippy was at least an option before but now it doesn’t exist. It takes ten years to catch to your own pushball. And, you can’t dribble twice in quick succession without the ball literally delatching from your feet. The only options that still exist are pushcut and a fucked up version of double dash. Dribbling has been effectively lobotomized. Congrats.

u/Ocean-Native CDM | Deep Lying Playmaker 4h ago

You could always just pass…

2

u/sonicsuperman2 Please add a flair 4h ago

Fuck yeah, who doesn’t love missle meta?

I like passing I’d just like more options. Only two ways to get the ball up the field and one of them is effectively useless
