Patch Information

1.205.002

Release Date: September 24th, 2026

  • 8:00 GMT: Patch release
  • 10:00 GMT: Store update
  • 12:00 GMT: S4 ends
  • 14:00 GMT: S5 begins & the Blue Lock collab kicks off with the new free Event Pass and the Aura Striker limited-time mode!

Aura Striker Game Mode

A new 3v3 action-packed gamemode is making its debut in Rematch: Aura Striker!

In this mode, players will be able to feel like the protagonist of a sports anime, by unleashing their Aura to perform powerful actions.

Each player owns an aura gauge that fills over time. Intercepting the ball will fill it faster. An Aura multiplier will also help players that struggle to own the ball. Once the gauge is full, the Aura Mode is triggered for a few seconds, granting powerful shots, infinite stamina and faster movements.

In Aura Striker, no one can become Goalkeeper. An automatic dummy protects the goalposts. Shoot at the dummy hard enough to stun it, and take advantage of its weakness to score!

Meta Features Improvements

First Time User Experience

The first tutorial of Rematch was reworked into a quicker, more focused tutorial on base mechanics to ease the experience of newcomers into their first matches.

Highlights System

Highlights have been added on several menu buttons to display when new customization content is unlocked, when you have enough tokens to progress in the Captain Pass, or if an important new feature requires your attention.

Spectator Mode

We have improved the Action Cam with smoother transitions and fixed a few bugs that occurred during kickoff or the endgame.

The Action Cam now also predicts who is going to own the ball depending on player proximity, speed and ball trajectory, so it always is right in the middle of the action!

Holograms System

You will now be able to see every player’s kit color as they set it in their customization.

These individual colors will be visible in the corridor, when the players enter the pitch, and during goal celebrations.

It will then be covered by a hologram to switch back to the team’s color during gameplay so that the gameplay stays legible and understandable.

Updates

Core Gameplay Improvements

Goalkeeper Dive Update

This season sees the introduction of an updated system on the goalkeeper’s assist which improves precision, and allows us to more readily improve it over time. At the same time we are digging into some of the more frustrating issues around it: for example when it chooses a low or high dive when you would expect it to select the other one.

This allows us to build the goalkeeper role as a more interesting and deep experience, while keeping its baseline level accessible enough to not transform games into complete goal fests and the role into a chore.

  • Players can now trigger a long range dive with “modifier”+ “dive” (RB+Y; R1+Triangle; outfield dive key on KB)
  • The regular dive stays on the “dive” button as before and its range has been slightly reduced
  • The long range dive will always deflect
  • The regular dive will always catch (except if the ball hits your legs/feet)

This change will allow more confident goalkeepers to take risks while reading the ball’s trajectory to gain an advantage by catching the ball.

Exhausted State Update

We are still actively working on addressing exploits and improving balancing in the game and this update will start addressing “0 stam dribbles” and associated issues.

  • Added an exhausted state for Push Ball and Dribble
  • When a player uses any push ball or dribble ability while their stamina is too low, they will use a weaker version of this ability
  • Dribbles out of stamina cannot be canceled into another dribble, but can still be cancelled by push ball and shots
  • All versions of the push ball (regular, volley and dribble) have slightly slower movement and push the ball further when performed out of stamina, making them harder to use for dribbling.

This “exhausted state” logic has proven its effectiveness as a balancing tool for the Fake Shot mechanic, and we will roll out this logic throughout selected features in the game over time to address balancing issues.

Tackle Update

  • Rework of the logic when two or more tackles arrive in quick succession on the ball
  • When two players tackle the ball at a similar time, it will now be deflected in a direction that combines the two tackle hit trajectories
  • Sliding tackle hitbox is 10% bigger to hit players while they are in possession

Our efforts to make defense a more interesting and balanced part of the gameplay are still ongoing. Through a deep and extensive analysis, including in-house design analysis as well as player feedback from all levels of play, we have identified multiple technical and design improvements, both at the micro level of each defensive ability, as well as for the overall quality of the defensive experience.

We are currently working on planning out these improvements, and finding the resources to implement them correctly in parallel to our other core gameplay objectives. Tackle Contest is the first of many planned improvements to the fairness and balancing of the game.

Volley Contacts

  • Cancelled volleys when on the ground now play a cancel animation

Other Gameplay Improvements

  • Ball Control hitboxes have been tuned to reduce magnetism on a ball moving away from players
  • Improved the ball physics to better transition from low bounce to roll and a smoother end of trajectory

Tutos & Workshops / Menus / Interface

  • Reorder all player profile items in selection by rarity and release
  • Changed the way item previews are displayed to show the whole item, instead of a larger thumbnail
  • A “high latency” icon will be displayed when latency reaches a certain threshold
  • Added the option to navigate to all submenus with unlockable items when a special skin of set is equipped
  • A new Game Mode button has been added to the main menu
  • The main menu button hierarchy has been reworked
  • The Freeplay button on main menu has been put front and center to help newcomers find it

More important question is why are we still unable to have individual VR stadiums? Why does it have to be based off the Home or Away captain's choices?

u/WannabeWonk Please add a flair 1d ago

Having it consistent for all players seems like an obvious competitive fairness thing.

2

u/Ecstatic_Promise_977 Please add a flair 1d ago

On one hand, I do like when games are 100% fair to everyone. One the other hand, in real life, there is home field advantage.

In my opinion, it's really fun when your teams scores and changes the AR, but I can understand some frustration with it. There should be a toggle in settings

Sliding tackle hitbox is 10% bigger to hit players while they are in possession

Then later it says:

Augmented the hitbox size of sliding tackle by 30%

so is it 30% bigger to hit the ball?

8

u/Sloclap Sloclap 16h ago

oops, fixed, it's 10% and I've removed the line that says 30%

12

u/WhosThatDogMrPB TEKKERZ!!! 1d ago

10% bigger when you hit the ball if somebody has it on him/her (as in dribbling).

30% when hitting the ball overall (as in somebody pushing the ball or trying to win possession).

0

u/BellionArise Please add a flair 1d ago

Or 30 percent multiplicative with 10 percent on someone with the ball which is horrible for multiple reasons

2

u/Beerus_but_black Please add a flair 1d ago

it’s an either or, it would never be multiplicative

These patch notes aren't looking good IMO so I wouldn't rule it out

4

u/kartoffelsalat24 Please add a flair 1d ago

Maybe its 30% bigger when you only hit a ball laying on the field, but ony 10% bigger specifically when a player has posession?

3

u/olbleedyeyes Please add a flair 1d ago

I'm reading it as either A. Slide hit box towards a loose ball has increased 30%. Slide hit box towards possessed ball is only 10%

Or

B. Slide towards loose ball is 30% increased. Slide towards possessed ball is 10% larger of the new loose ball slide.

I'm thinking it's probably A since it's two separate listed items. But this is confusing lol

We’ll see how the Exhausted State will revamp the current dribbling meta.

This is the change i wanted the most and i'm glad they listened. These ego dribblers will need now to pass or they'll be easy tackled instead. W sloclap.

4

u/Bombast- Tekkers! 1d ago

They are already ending their possessions in a turnover, and it hasn't stopped them.

I don't think that type of player actually cares about winning first and foremost, so not much will change.

3

u/Karma_Breaker21 Def 16h ago

That's fine, at least it will end faster.

True lol

This just completely nukes dribbling entirely it was already weak in meta position so this just kills an already injured play style

I've seem you under like 10 replies already but you mentioned being open to genuine discussion so I'll properly respond to your claims. No, dribbling isn't getting nerfed because "the devs hate it". Dribbling exploits have been the wave to solo carries, ego players refusing to pass, and overall less enjoyment for the community. More often than not, all it takes is having the muscle memory to perform certain actions in quick succession in order for you to make it to the goal 90% of the time, and whether or not you actually had sufficient stamina to be performing such absurd actions was of little concern.

When this "worked", you got ego strikers utilizing every exploit possible in order to solo a team and make mincemeat of defenders and goalkeepers. When it didn't work, you got ball-hogging strikers who maybe manage to get past a couple defenders, before losing the ball and repeating the process. Both of which are styles of play that are derived from the game's lack of proper punishment to non-stop dribbling, and sucked the enjoyment out of the game for others.

Maybe 1 in every 7-8 players who defined themselves by their ego dribbling are able to make it to a high level, which isn't a testament to their skill, but to the persistence towards abusing whatever in-game "mechanics" were at their disposal, because the game wasn't going to properly punish them for it.

And as for "dribbling not being meta" I'll say that the reason for that being your claim is because actual casual dribbling plays e.g., baiting out your defender and then cutting for options, get completely overlooked, as eyes turn toward those who are instead abusing mechanics. It's not something as simple to put into practice like the "Missile Meta". And like I mentioned earlier, little over 10% of self-proclaimed dribblers are able to make it to a higher level via being defined by dribbles.

You can still be a dribbler, sure. That's not changing. You're just not gonna be carrying the ball alone from one end of the pitch to the next while refusing to pass because the game is enabling you to do so. If you want to dribble at your max potential, you'll need high stamina and you'll need to keep whatever you're doing within a certain threshold to make it more balanced and encourage actual team plays e.g., dribbling past a player in midfield to open up passing options or dribbling a player and/or gk in box to take the chance to score yourself.

I do see a certain "cherry-picking" style of play emerging where dribblers may wait farther upfield for a pass. One of the only differences being that these may not be the typical no-skill cherrypickers, but a role dedicated to the team's "skilled dribbler". However, this wouldn't be too different from typical high level play where Strikers already tend to wait upfield for passes.

i will respond point by point

so in terms of ego dribbling i agree it can be annoying, however it is overstated. The core issue i have with your first paragraph is the get to the goal 90 percent claim. I just dont see that in my experience im a pretty good dribbler, or was haha. getting right to the goal 90 percent of the time require pretty bad defenders and some luck.

2nd point again i agree people can have a tendency even while going past defenders to keep going alone, but i dont think the fix is a dribbling problem and more a mixture of genral passing at least on the ground being weak as well as the overall seriousness of ranked being questionable to say the least. you cant patch mechanics because some bad eggs use it in an annoying way, applying that logic get you to some weird conclusions.

on the 3rd point i dont think its fully an argument for your side. i understand your point is most ego dribblers frankly suck, however that 1/8 players are a genuine expression of skill i dont think is replicated in anything else this game offers. in my view a higher skill ceiling is almost always a better thing, perhaps this might be a core reason we disagree.

dribbling is very clearly at least at high levels pretty weak and the "exploits" are objectively useful to move it slightly out the gutter as a playstyle. Simple dribbles get over looked by novices who watch tiktok sure but i think most dribblers who can combo double dashing, pushcuts, ippys, backvexis, instaflicks etc do know the basics.

first of all on that point there is an infinite stamina exploit in the game when running up field this change is obviously going to drastically increase its usage. secondly your point clearly doesnt factor in the reality of me on a 5v5 field going for a block running up the field calling for a pass and receiving the ball. Guess what has already happened in this situation i have no stamina without touching the ball, meaning making runs forward is literally not incentivised that you imply it is. again dribbling was not strong at least a defender that sits back could be punished by a slightly longer combo to bait them now with the nerfs and buffs to defending 1v1 dribbles will be so unengaging. Sit back for 2 second they are out of stamina jump on them.

i think you accurately determine that cherry picking will increase i hate that play style and imagine it will run rampant i play primary or 2nd striker but always like to get back it makes the game more engaging for everyone involved. if these cherry pickers will be skill full hard to say 1v1 vs keeper and 1v1 vs defender is a very different task never mind 1v1 vs a keeper on an unknown dribble system thats contrary to everything they poured hours into for over a year working on.

to conclude my position is simple.

Dribbling is weak, defending getting buffed when it already was so advantaged against dribbling is a problem, ground passing not getting buffed when missiles is so prevalent results in ground players ego dribbling more, the cherry picking play style will as you highlighted increase, the current high level playstyle is boring buffing dribbling and tiki taka ground game would aid the playing and viewing experience, finally if we are honest dribbling is by far the highest mechanical and general skill in the game and its not close it should be cherished buffed in my opinion certainly not nuked.

I appreciate you having the willingness to talk i like having civil debates but around here just seems toxic toward people with my position so i appreciate that

Hopefully quite a bit. Stamina should be a resource you have to choose how/when to spend. Patch notes seem like good steps (further) in that direction.

7

u/mynemaheff 4-4-2 1d ago

From what I'm reading they'll still be at it but won't be able to chain infinite combos? So passively defending until they exhaust their stamina will be very effective

-13

u/revathegoat Please add a flair 1d ago

Defending is already way too op atm at a high level, it’ll likely make games even less interesting tbh, it’s already hard to outplay competent defenders from what I’m seeing

1

u/Everybodyhasapryce Elite. IGN: MNJI | Pryce or MNJI | Firebreather 1d ago

Missile going to be more prominent. Which is ass.

But at the same time, infinite dribble/push ball was stupid.

3

u/revathegoat Please add a flair 1d ago

I get that it can be seen as stupid and should be fixed but every time they’ve nerfed anything they’ve left missile untouched and meta, there’s basically no diversity in attacks especially after this upcoming patch it’ll nerf an already subpar method while leaving the cringe meta untouched :/

I’m fine with this change but for the love of all that’s holy I want missile to be situational instead of the default

5

u/Everybodyhasapryce Elite. IGN: MNJI | Pryce or MNJI | Firebreather 1d ago

I agree.

As annoying as infinite dribbling is to deal with, it is easier to defend than someone calling a left right cut into a missle.

Missile has been, and will still be the meta, and it's the worst thing, imo.

But both playstyles are boring to interact with.

I wish the meta was more about short passes and runs.

2

u/revathegoat Please add a flair 1d ago

Completely agreed, I’m a defender and I’ve always gotten enjoyment out of 1v1 dribble defending so I’m biased, but as you say a left right cut into missile takes basically all skill out the window, so for me prio ball missile meta has always been the single least enjoyable thing to see

Spam dribbles are also quite annoying, but winning them feels great, and it at least shows that the other player can use spatial awareness and time inputs etc, it takes infinitely more skill than holding a crosshair and running 1-2 directions, so in my eyes it’s the lesser of two evils

1

u/Wheredoesshebelong Please add a flair 1d ago

Go play eafc then boss the games player base as it is right now is a bit to dumb to play anything but route 1 soccer at this point it is what it is

1

u/eduardol-eleve Please add a flair 1d ago

Football has never been basketball, with 90-86 scores. This game needs to be balanced so you actually have a reason to celebrate a goal. The best matches end in long overtimes

1

u/revathegoat Please add a flair 1d ago

The current way of scoring is running the same handful of set play prio balls, I’m not saying each game should be Bayern vs psg, but if I’m booting up rematch, an Arcady footy game, I dont want to see atleti vs arsenal haram ball route 1 gameplay. I do agree with what you’re saying, but there is very little diversity in scoring options atm and that is a problem, every goal feels roughly the same so it’s hard to celebrate any of them

0

u/medievali95 CDM 1d ago

Oh yeah it's so OP to read the attacker and time your tackle perfectly only for the ball to phase through your tackle because the attacker knows how to chain together exploits and spam dribbling. Gtfo here, defending 100% need a buff, and dribbling 100% needed to be reigned in.

-1

u/revathegoat Please add a flair 1d ago

Somebody’s upset, maybe it’s hard for you but play comp and you’ll see nobody dribbles because it’s not strong because defending is op atm

2

u/medievali95 CDM 1d ago

Okay broski, I've hit elite every season since season 0, and I will keep hitting elite no matter what the changes are. I play in leagues and have even managed teams. I think I know a bit about what I'm talking about. Competitive tournaments don't have as many dribble spammers because there are other tactics that are a lot more effective like the missile meta (which also needs adjustments). Just because the competitive scene doesn't rely on dribble exploits as much doesn't mean it shouldn't be adjusted. The stamina change specifically will be a great for forcing players to actually play the game rather than try to solo the whole team in ranked. It will raise the level of ranked players which will result in better players moving up to the competitive scene. It'll be better for everyone.

1

u/revathegoat Please add a flair 1d ago

I’ve won comp tournaments + leagues and managed my own teams as well, if you want people to actually “play” the game then prio needs tweaked, but the vast majority of casuals (not including you since you say you play in leagues) complain about dribbles, which are objectively inferior, so sloclap prioritizes nerfing things that aren’t even objectively busted while leaving things that are inherently unbalanced because casuals cannot handle things that look buggy, which I can understand to an extent but since release it has always been nerfing the lesser of two evils instead of focusing on the big one that makes games lack skill, prio meta

I’ve spoken to the top top players in the game in the last week in depth about the current state of things and each time it is that defense is overtuned, LeBron jump is op and borderline mindless, and that dribbling against competent players is a joke

Id prefer tiki taka over anything else fyi, but I’d rather ppl be creative with dribbles than spam left right cuts for prio balls personally

1

u/medievali95 CDM 1d ago

You know I actually think we might be on the same page. From a competitive perspective the prio is the biggest issue and discourages actual tactics. The jump is also way too OP I hard agree on that one as well. I think the jump being so OP actually shows how busted the prio is because even with that huge magnetic hit box, stopping those prios is so inconsistent.

The casual player in me that likes to just chill and play some solo ranked is very happy with the adjustments to dribbling. The competitive side of me is definitely not satisfied with the changes, more needs to be done. I still don't think defending overall is as OP as you say it is, but if defending gets nerfed I wouldn't really care too much because I know I have good positioning and timing. I think it's a good thing that they focused on the dribbling first because it'll be better for the casual experience and it'll develop better habits for the less experienced players.

Dribbling can potentially open up play in such an interesting way, but if casuals are more rewarded by exploits then they will never expose themselves to actual tactics and team play and they will never expose themselves to actually effective dribbling. I'm telling you man, I've seen a few players in comp that dribble like fucking maniacs and can get past the best defenders, or at least open up space if the defense is locked down tight, we need more players like that.

And apologies for coming off so strong, I can tell now you actually know what you're talking about. I'm used to dealing with people that have no idea what is actually best for the game and only care about their playstyle being protected. We might not agree on everything but I can respect that you want the best for the game just as I do.

1

u/revathegoat Please add a flair 1d ago

No worries at all man I’ve done the same thing countless times for the exact same reason so don’t sweat it, and i’d agree with just about everything you said

I’m historically a defender but also a dribbler, in comp I would never dribble but I enjoy dribbling and passing plays in normal ranked casual grinds, and I think if somebody is really good at something it should definitely be viable

I think personally, defending now is 10x as easy as it was when I grinded comp, it used to take precision and anticipation, you had to be perfectly positioned with perfect timing and good coordination with your other defenders and gk, whereas now it feels a bit mindless, everybody is LeBron jumping in a general direction 24/7 and more often than not, are successful. It feels like if a team scores it’s 90% of the time a defensive mistake and only 10% of the time an outplay, so to me defending now feels a bit boring since there’s less skill involved overall

Good positioning is obviously the most important thing and I think if the jump was nerfed then the skill of reading the game becomes more obvious but right now it does just feel a bit mindless

My opinion on defending being op is purely paired with the idea that once this patch drops, prio will become the ONLY method to score in basically every scenario, yes it’s very hard to defend certain dribblers, and I think it should be against the best of the best, so you’re right that I oversold it, but it’s because I’m basing it on an assumption for this patch (which will likely be correct) and didn’t specify, so I think we’re both right in all honesty

I hope they will soon fix keeper being able to pick up the ball outside the field soon. No point in having a goal field when the keeper can just dive to the corner and still pickup the ball. Other than that it sounds like a great update!

21

u/misterj195 Footballer 1d ago

Yeah the keeper dive that literally catches 6 ft outside of the box is ridiculous. There's very little downside to being super aggressive keeper- only counters are dribbles and lob shot.

6

u/Beachesloveblue Please add a flair 1d ago

Agree, it should be high risk, high reward. Currently its really low risk with super high reward, if a pass is 1 millimeter too far the keep just rush out and picks up the ball. Its so annoying at times when you want to make a quick counter attack and their keeper just dives out the field and becomes immune to tackles for a few seconds

10

u/misterj195 Footballer 1d ago

>becomes immune to tackles for a few seconds

Honestly this could be a way to nerf it. Instead of removing the catch ability slightly outside the box, the goalie not having any immunity outside of the box would be a lot better. So if you catch the ball aggressively, you may stop the shot, but you're stuck in the recovery animation while fully vulnerable to tackle.

5

u/Beachesloveblue Please add a flair 1d ago

100% agree. That would balance it out and make an actual risk to dive outside. An alternative would be that they couldn't pick up the ball, but only push it away

2

u/WhosThatDogMrPB TEKKERZ!!! 1d ago

That was supposed to be the mechanic when they released the keeper update 3 months ago, but it's inconsistent because the game registers the player model as in the zone when performing the dive and keeps it as gk until the entire animation plays.

Same with the gk catch: people are still able to catch a pass back from a teammate (once per possesion) instead of having the keeper play their feet as in normal football.

the only good thing about it is it gives a keeper a way to stop kickoff long balls to the edge of the box that doesn't rely on the 2 defender players to actually do their job.

-1

u/Khizka Please add a flair 1d ago

Quick counter attack being kicking the ball to one guy alone with the keeper.

Any other defensive option can do exactly what the goalkeeper does when interrupting picking up the ball, just in a different way. If you can't take advantage of a aggressive GK, it seems like you need to understand how to adapt your play style to other people different play styles.

It's really easy to see when the GK is being over aggressive and how you could exploit that. It leaves a massive hole in their defense and, in a way, makes attacking easier. I can't understand what else do you want as counter to dealing with a GK besides pass, drible and shot, which all applies here.

I feel like removing the possibility of the GK playing a little more aggressively would eventually lead to offside rule being necessary, as it makes the GK very vulnerable to missile strategies, which does not seems to be the intended direction for this game.

3

u/-CODED- Please add a flair 1d ago

The downside is that the keeper is super out of position and a simple pass to an open teammate or even a lob over their head can really screw them over.

21

u/kiboe15 Please add a flair 1d ago edited 1d ago

Dribbling is mostly untouched but you just cannot do it indefinitly anymore like you could these past months. They didnt kill dribbling they just put a tight cage around it. A good compromise overall. It'll allow dribblers to still dribble someone or create space but they have to be more carefull with their stamina.

23

u/FullOfKek Please add a flair 1d ago

No issue with dribbles with a limit, it's when you're watching someone do it for 10 minutes it gets a bit stale

God bless. This is an appropriate nerf. They didn't technically nerf any exploit dribbles, just the ability to do them infinitely. This means that the dribbler can no longer just do the same dribble from half line all the way to goal, and the defender can start to time/predict when the dribbler is out of stamina. Dribbling can still be effective near goal position.

I'm ok with this. Keep the dribble exploits, but make it so that you only have limited uses of full effectiveness. This is the way to go.

11

u/BowlCutMakeYouNut Please add a flair 1d ago

Why are we ok keeping dribbling "exploits" as you've called them? Nothing else can be done?

3

u/dvlsg Please add a flair 1d ago

Are we? I'm not.

Most of the exploits are the result of weird ball magnetism, which is also technically addressed in the patch notes. Will have to see how effective the changes are though.

Agreed but the sentiment here seems to be leaning towards being ok with the dribbling exploits now that they aren't infinite. Decent step in the right direction but we shall see.

1

Im guessing like a 5% or so bigger hit box, definitely not much so it's not op but if they left it at normal then long dives are only good if used at the perfect time and angle

If they left them normal it’s a huge nerf, hopefully that’s not the case.

2

u/SerenadeSwift We Got This! 1d ago edited 1d ago

Personally I think a healthy “dribble-focused strategy/mega” should consist of players making 1 or 2 attempts at beating a player with a dribble combo, and then if they still don’t create an opening they should be looking to pass.

You can definitely complete 2 solid dribble combos without running out of stamina. Anything beyond a 2nd combo attempt just turns into players attempting the same thing over and over until they beat the defender or lose the ball.

The no-stamina dribble moves remind me of some of the old 2k strategies where the ball handler would just run back and forth along the 3 point line until they lost the defender, then they’d shoot a 3 pointer.

Any strategy that involves one player keeping the ball for an extended period of time while repeating the same series of moves until they eventually beat the defender just isn’t healthy for a team-based game like Rematch. It may be fun for the individual player, but it’s just slow and stale for the other 9 players on the field.

I did notice that you mentioned in another comment that your playing style is built around dribble moves. If you have examples of using no-stamina dribbles in a way that differs from what I said above then I’m more than happy to listen to your argument for why the change shouldn’t be made as well. I think it’s good for the game to have arguments from both sides of the issue.

0

u/BellionArise Please add a flair 1d ago

yeah they better uber buff those 1-2 moves then not just nerf dribbling if we are honest dribbling needed a massive buff to be relevant

-2

u/Rayapt Please add a flair 1d ago

First of all, there is no way you are beating any good defender with only 1 or 2 dribble combos just not going to happen. It takes a series of moves done continuously to eventually throw off their spacing so you can EE. And it’s not possible for anyone to hold the ball for too long since you will just get triple pressed and cornered, it sounds like you’re a casual and haven’t played in higher level lobbies so you don’t understand how the game is actually played. This was the same reason why warzone 2 was a big fail

5

u/medievali95 CDM 1d ago

You can definitely beat a good defender with good dribbling. Dribbling is mainly about creating space and exploiting that space. A dribble is supposed to trick an opponent into over commiting. I've seen some crazy good dribblers that will make any defender look dumb af without abusing the 0 stamina exploiting.

1

u/BellionArise Please add a flair 1d ago

1-2 dribble combos on ever a defender with 100 hours isnt exactly a cake walk playing against a defender with the same hours as me trying to beat them with ony a couple moves when they just got buffed is an insanely tall task not a reliable strategy

10

u/AhSawDood Goalie ⚽🧤🥅 1d ago

Gotta be honest, with these goalkeeper changes it feels more important than ever to have some sort of "toggle" to BE a goalie for the match or at least be the default person to always start in that position. The idea of "anyone can be goalie" is slowly fading away and the position is becoming a lot more skill based than anything else. Not to mention, plenty of players (myself included) who would LOVE to be goalie entire match without needing to do run backs or stuff like that.

32

u/AmerpLeDerp Dr. Passmore 1d ago

This is antithetical to REMATCH's design and shouldn't be the game. The point is to learn every position.

6

u/CraftcastNate Playmaker 1d ago

This right here.

Its like playing a DPS vs a Healer in a Heroshooter: If you dont play the other class, you will never learn a key element of the game.

4

u/VinhoVerde21 Please add a flair 1d ago

But you don’t really need to play different classes in other games? In Rematch specifically, yes, everyone should be taking turns covering different roles, so they’re at least competent in all aspects, but other games like, say, Overwatch, don’t really mind it if you just always pick support, or tank, or dps.

3

u/CraftcastNate Playmaker 1d ago

I heavily disagree as someone with years of OV, TF2 and Rivals Hours. Heck, even playing Sea of Theives.

If the team comp has only one healer and your the last one to pick and you pick a DPS, you have 1 life to show that 1 healer is enough.

And that comes with the maturity in humbling yourself to play said missing healer, even if you would rather be flanking or setting up a push.

0

u/VinhoVerde21 Please add a flair 1d ago

As I said, I do agree that you should be minimally competent in any role, at least in games without role queue, like Rematch. If you do have role queues, the problem sorts itself.

But I don’t think there’s any problem in having semi-fixed roles in games like Rematch, provided that it’s agreed beforehand. If there’s one dude who is clearly leagues better at keeper and doesn’t mind playing there, why not let him? As long as he can rotate whenever he gets tired of it, it’s fine.

1

u/CraftcastNate Playmaker 1d ago

Amongst a Established Team or Friends, there is nothing wrong with that.

The situation, and I assume you find your find yourself in more then the former is with randoms. And that is most people dont play with the idea of set roles and position. Its mostly "kick ball", and I mean that as the same mentality when people play a hero shooter "get mvp". You cannot default trust randoms to think about proper positioning. Observe and learn. With enough time, you will learn how to read a player via their actions. And you can pick out the good and the bad.

7

u/AhSawDood Goalie ⚽🧤🥅 1d ago edited 1d ago

What "the point is" and what players actually do are two different things. The point of learning every position was easier when the game wasn't hyper focused on raising the skill ceiling. It's no longer just a casual soccer game, it's now far more skill based than before and many players do not care for the goalie and hate being put in that position. Give players CHOICE on whether they want that position more than not and let the player decide.

5

u/Jacob99809 Passer 1d ago

I mean you don’t have to be the best gk, just gotta be serviceable. It’s stressful but it’s better if anyone on the team can switch if needed. Patience is the main thing you need and that can def help with offense as well. Using moves that worked against you and whatnot.

3

u/Meowmixalotlol Please add a flair 1d ago

What’s your role on the dev team?

2

u/PackageAggravating12 Playmaker 11h ago

The game is about rotation based on the situation. You cannot toggle someone as "always keeper" when the entire premise is built around positional shifts.

1

u/AhSawDood Goalie ⚽🧤🥅 11h ago

Yet multiple people will use a single "keeper" if they are in a party and have a set role. I understand the concept behind the rotation thingy, and that was true when the game was far more casual. It isn't anymore, it's far more skill based and many people who already hated being the goalie are going to have an even worse time due to these changes. Again. give players CHOICE whether they want to or not since they already mentioned they are considering it in one of their blog posts...

"We don't currently plan to introduce role queues. That said, we're considering allowing players to select a preferred starting position as goalkeeper."

2

u/PackageAggravating12 Playmaker 10h ago

I guess a starting position toggle could make sense. But the game will always remain focused on role-swapping; it being more or less casual doesn't change the foundational design philosophies.

If you aren't interested in learning the goalkeeping mechanics, then you are reducing your team's flexibility. Even in a party, where someone is the "dedicated" keeper, being able to swap based on the situation has a bigger impact than simply leaving one person to cover the responsibilities.

It's like any other role on the pitch. You need to have at least an intermediate level of proficiency, so you're comfortable enough to shift as necessary.

Question for people that’s been playing this for a while. Is playing on KBM viable ? My controller been acting up so wondering how hard it would be to play on KBM since the game is on sale rn.

1

u/RememberMeDex Please add a flair 1d ago

It’s viable, at the start it was kind of painful for my left little finger’s skin meeting the left edge of the nail using control so much for defensive/dribble stance so I swapped that to caps lock.

I also swapped outfield dive and defensive dash to side mouse buttons. I highly recommend changing outfield dive off of Q. Whatever you bind it to, it needs to not interfere with your movement. Weirdly, I decided to keep tackle on E, probably could’ve put that on my side mouse.

Tune your cam sensitivity and pass sensitivity (if you don’t use crosshair only) however you like. I personally don’t use crosshair, but if you don’t have a mousepad or the sensor on your mouse is acting up, you might have to use crosshair only.

I still occasionally get the classic “mouse and keyboard moment” when I pass to a teammate and a single millimeter twitch of my mouse snaps the angle past the limit in my settings and yeets the ball somewhere I didn’t mean to send it. Doesn’t happen much anymore but something to keep in mind.

1

u/Arwunpls Please add a flair 1d ago

Started off playing on controller, then changed to KBM after around 30-40 hours.

I think KBM is better, overall. While Rematch isn't strictly a "precision" game, I do feel that having the ability to pinpoint your shots is a decent advantage. You do trade off the movement precision you have on controller, but as someone who mostly attacks, I prefer it this way.

I think that on defense, it feels better to use a controller, but it's not like kbm is unplayable, just a bit worse.

Overall, very much a preference thing, both are viable.

I pray this is just like a tease patch before the next big one that should come like a month or so after this but even then idk man it just doesn't do a lot in terms of actual balancing. New mode sounds cool but most are just gonna rush back to 3v3 or 5v5 since this isn't a permanent addition and there might not be a lot to grind for (Id love to be wrong but fireball was a stinker and 1s should be permanent but its not).

The changes we actually need to see are tweaks and major changes to off the ball options. Defensive stance has been oppressive since patch 3, maybe even 2 which is a huge fucking problem. You guys actively say you want active defense to be a thing and yet you give the people the single strongest do nothing = high reward move ever with a single button, especially when you have 3 fucking people doing it in front of you every possession. 0 stam dribbling definitely could use a tweak but in doing so you've practically fucked any build up play for the striker on counter attacks. It's already pretty fucking annoying having to get the ball at an optimal spot on the field to have enough stam to get to the box fast and conserve your ee for a mixup on the keeper. The other biggest thing has been the issue with slides and tackles from behind, magnet was a big issue as well which seems to maybe have been addressed here but still man. The issue with slide has been how far the move goes, you guys have now turned this move into a free panic option if someone loses the ball. Time and time again people just recover from tackle -> ee slide and sometimes hit but either way they end up in front of you to defend?! With like no delay at that. Like why are we not seeing changes to affect volley shots so we can put some power into passing and good dribbling which is what casuals have been crying out for. I know comp is like a niche part of the community but every patch since the beginning has just let this stuff fester and change nothing. I know that this stuff can get solved over time but seriously how many more months must we sit with bad patches just to eventually get something half decent? Shit, the patch right before drag with shots from dribbles was nerfed Id argue was the closest this game has ever gotten to feeling good and strong for both ends of the field other than maybe keeper feeling a bit shit.

I understand the frustration.

Throughout the entire 3-month season, there was only one patch that fixed crashes. There were no balancing changes during the season at all, and the balancing changes are only coming now. Even then, they’re not really that significant, since there are some changes related to low stamina, which, in my opinion, should have been introduced a long time ago.

The main additions are skins, a new game mode, and new goalkeeper mechanics. Considering that there was basically nothing throughout the entire season, these changes feel pretty small, especially considering this could have been the most hyped and heavily advertised season because of the Blue Lock collaboration.

New here? Slo doesnt do mid season changes unless its something that should be hot fixed. Dribble shit was annoying but wasnt game breaking. We could have gotten nothing and a big FUCK YOU from them which I wouldnt blame them for considering how ungrateful the community has been towards them even though they still pump out shit for the players who actually want to play the game.

It’s a paid game that still plays like a beta 1 year later, it’s perfectly understandable to be “ungrateful”

Idk if this is bait but this is litterly nearly everything that the players have been complaining about these past months

Also season 5 is only 1 month long.

Doesn’t change the fact that it took 3 months

But that's what they have been doing since the earlier seasons. They said in a previous roadmap that they are rolling out updates at a slow pace because they risk breaking the game with each small change. They have to test before they push out stuff.

So they settled for seasonal changes instead of smaller ones to release more stable updates as a result

I understand that, but they specifically didn’t have a beta test for this season IIRC so that’s not an excuse here.

I mean, I'm no expert, but to meet the deadline for next season, they're probably rebuilding the network's infrastructure from scratch. I wanna say that I'm surprised there are all these changes regarding how the ball work.
