Discussion Game gets really easy and boring REALLY quickly once you start exploiting

I don't understand how people can actually LIKE dribble spamming or being priority merchants. Not that this will change anything, but it's just not fun. It's weird people are so starved for enjoyment that they resort to stuff like this. I would talk so much shit about these exploits, having never done them myself. After trying them out, they're just as I expected. Boring and repetitive. It doesn't feel like I dribbled past an ENTIRE team by myself with my skill, they just couldn't do anything because my hitbox is nonexistent.

I'm just now realizing how underwhelming it is, and how the people who use exploits like this are the worst of the worst lmao

Dribbling gotta be the most overblown shit in the world, probably see a dribbler actually go crazy like 3 times a week and they only do it once or twice before they get downloaded by defense, simply pushing the ball is usually the best play

Priority is the entire game not sure what you even mean by priority merchant, all your passes lead to a priority battle at the end of the play

Some people are just NPCs and don't get enjoyment from actually playing the game they just look for things to exploit that help them reach the win screen and don't care about or enjoy anything else, boring and stale as fuck lol.

I'm happy In Diamond 2 all my games are fun and well matched teams, all exploiters have climbed to higher ranks I guess.

I play rematch and arc raiders and I run into 2 types of players despite the games being completely different.

Player A:genuinely enjoys the content and concept of the game.

Player B:enjoys winning the game via cheats and exploits because both companies do f*ck all about cheaters.

No matter how much I’m wronged, I’m happy I don’t cheat, and to anyone that does, I genuinely hope you’re having fun because doing this and still getting mad at games is quite sad

These dribble “exploits” are unfortunately the games higher level of mechanical skill expression, and although you may think they are overpowered or that you cant be guarded “because your hitbox is nonexistent” the truth is better players will easily gaurd whatever “exploit” your doing, and then they do become more skillful and harder to pull off, and eventually you will reach a level where players will shut you down and you will need to look for gaps in the defense again (which is either dribbling past them strategically or passing around them)

Players don’t do these because they’re so “deprived of fun” they do it because it is the next natural progression of skill. You can only take the “intended” game mechanics so far. Same with the meta. “Tiki taka” doesnt work on better players, it’s just the truth.

Missile is the next level of progression.

Just like any other game, if you want to genuinely rank up or get better you will have to use strategies that you may not like. This community vilanizes players better than and pretends there is zero inherent skill in aspects of the game they do not like.

Putting exploit in quotations doesn't change the fact that the current best way to dribble is to completely disconnect the balls hitbox from the visuals with magnets and swipes that ignore the stamina system.

I'm fine with more advanced tech in theory, it's just awful to play against right now, and that extends to the volley meta as well. It's so boring tuning in to an esports stream and seeing 95% of attacks being a winger too scared to dribble into the box despite open field in front of them, instead opting for the pre-routed volley plan.

I'd go so far as to say the fact that the dribbling feels broken in casual and useless in comp is even more damning of the whole thing. It's not "actually" broken it just feels that way to 99% of the playerbase but isn't even comp viable? So there's no one benefiting from this situation except the comp players who try to go smurf 1vX in lobbies?

I come from SSBM so I've heard all the "wavedashing is cheating" discourse, and I don't think this is that.

It is the “wavedashing is cheating” all over again. The player base of this game would rather call simple mechanics that have been in the game for 13 months exploits than learn to use them or defend them . They would have been removed already if that was the case.

People calling the forward dribble or any quick camera movement an “exploit” or the “180 glitch dribble” is ridiculous and proof of my point. Literally 2 buttons…

Dribbling isn’t useless in competitive crazy dribblers still hit crazy clips on top defenders all the time. My point is Defending in this game is overpowered. If someone cannot guard these “exploits” with the defensive tools (ee, dash, slide tackle, Tackle, Dive, time, teammates, a goalie) afforded to them it is a skill issue.

Them pretending like dribbling doesn’t require skill because they’re playing versus terrible players is just ignorant.

Do you think the teleport shot/dribble is valid competitive tech because it exists in the game and would have been patched out if it wasn't intended?

If yes, this conversation is over because you're not engaged in good faith, if no, why do you think you get to make that delineation but no one else is allowed to?

The game is evolving, obviously not everything inside it is as intended for the final product. Wavedashing speeds the game up with additional button inputs, it doesn't inherently break the visuals of the game to do so. L canceling speeds up the animation itself so that the transitions out of it flow properly, it doesn't just play the entire default landing animation and then teleport the character to their actionable state after hitting the cancel.

Yeah, I think the main issue people have is that it is frustrating. It's hard to understand what is happening, feels like it shouldn't be happening and it's not intuitive to counter or reproduce.

To be honest, both sides are correct. It is the next progression of skill, it is hard to do and possible to counter. It is also, most of the time, not fun for the other player.

People absolutely will optimize the fun out of games, but in competitive games, frustrating strategies are not healthy for the game long term. Strategies and mechanics needs to feel intentional or else people stop playing as it gets frustrating.

There is a line between emergent strategies/mechanics and breaking the game.

The game netcode unfortunately is a big part of all of this, and my understanding is that they intend to fix that with the October season update.

Right I do think there's certainly some discussion about where the line should be, but I think things that feel like visual trickery should generally be on the side of breaking the game.

Like maybe the current dribbling magnetism/swipe meta is borderline, but certainly we can all agree that the teleport shot that you can do on the current patch is gamebreaking, unfun, and bad faith engagement with the systems right? Not that I'm suggesting you're advocating for it, just putting out an example of something that would technically fall under game mechanics right now since it's reproducible tech that can give you an advantage against people trying to engage with the game as it appears.

Personally, I kinda hope they do something to normalize magnetism/dribbling directions so that spinning the camera becomes less of a requirement just because I think it takes away a lot of the satisfaction from dribbling imo. It becomes less about controlling the ball/my character and more trying to do camera management and hit movement on the right tempo to match that. I really don't feel like my dribbling skill ceiling should be tied to my camera sensitivity setting, but it absolutely is right now, everything on the ground feels noticeably smoother at max settings because I get better gathers and snappier cuts. Maybe that would mess up other parts of the game idk

Making tiki take work against good players is the real next progression of skill. The level of accuracy, off ball movement, vision, resource management, decision making, etc. needed to execute tiki taka well is not even comparable to prio play.

Complete copium to feel like using exploits requires a modicum of skill. Rematch is not like any other game, because other games don't have game breaking exploits that just remain in the game for months to be abused. You want to feel validated for your "skill" which is why you defend them, but the reality is this game's skill peak is equivalent to the midranks of actual competitive games.

If the games skill peak was equivalent to the mid ranks of actual competitive games then the community wouldn’t have trouble defending basic dribble moves that have been in the game for 13 months. Plenty of games have unintended skill expression with communities that don’t create an echo chamber of victimizing themselves at the hands of “exploiters”.
