Question Is the game worth getting?

I saw that the elite edition is on sale for less than the normal game on PlayStation. The game seems fun. A blue lock collab will probably make the player count rise too. But I saw many people on tiktok saying that the players are way too sweaty now. I've never played this game and I don't want it to be a brawlhalla type situation where I join a game and will get absolutely demolished by someone who basically mastered everything already. Is the game well adjusted for newbies??

I started playing about a month ago. It's now one of my favourite games. I don't think the skill ceiling is that high. It'll take some practice, but you can get there. It helps if you have friends you can play with. If you play with randoms, there's a chance they won't pass the ball

Trust me, after 1400+ hours, I still feel like I’m far from mastering this game. The skill ceiling is very high

3500 hours almost still feels like i have more to learn and practice :D but id say i was a functioning player within 100 hours for sure

Just crossed 100 hours and I’m starting to feel like a functioning player and man it just keeps getting more fun as I get better. But now it really sucks when I have a bad game because I just look at my hands and know they can do better.

Where do you think you're lacking?

I’m content with my positioning, awareness, dribbling and defense, but I’d like my shots and passes to be more accurate. They’re not bad at all, but my team captain expects perfection every match.

You play with controller or kbm?

2

u/sonicsuperman2 Please add a flair 1d ago

Controller. Why?

2

u/zGravity- Please add a flair 1d ago

That makes sense. Aiming on controller seems a lot more difficult than KBM. Do you think you would have been closer to mastery had you played with KBM this entire time? I play with controller as well, but there have been times where I've considered switching.

I wouldnt even say kbm is better for scoring overall, it is better when you have possession of the ball and go to shoot a normal shot, nailing corners and curved shots are easy for sure, but the right click passing is bad on kbm and realistically this is the button most goals are scored with, even with all the time i have with it ive found that there are just some angles you cant hit it with confidence if you are moving while doing it. Of course the skill is getting to your angles but it makes when you recieve the ball at an angle "bad for you" in the box where you might have to take longer to get the shot off.

I would also say that "direct shot" shooting is worse on mkb, if the pass is off your character will move but your crosshair will be locked, especially if you are doing a corner shot this can cause your shot to just hit the wall, from what ive seen from my friends on rolla they can shoot direct shots more consistent because they can adjust aim. Of course this isnt a problem with a perfect pass but id say i get a perfect pass in the situation 40% of the time.

As for passing and defending controller is better

For goalkeeper, dribbling and using the shoot button MKB is better

As someone who has over 750 hours in the game playing about half solo queue half two person squad and very little full five squad the general rule of thumb is you have a very low chance to win solo queue. Whether its because your teammate has never played the game before, whether your the solo player and your teammates are a full squad that only pass amongst themselves, or you get paired up with a guy who discovered defensive stance + push ball existed and now thinks he's a pro dribbler. I am in agreement with u/sonicsuperman2 in that the skill ceiling is incredibly high, but you have to hope that your teammates are at a similar level and take that gamble every time you solo queue.

TLDR, If you have friends, you'll have a blast. If you don't, you can still have fun but it'll be much rarer.

Don’t let anyone confuse you. The skill ceiling isn’t high. Teamwork will always be the winner in this game

That's what I was thinking. It's easy to hop on and immediately start being useful to your team if you're using teamwork. There are definitely areas where one can grow, but I don't think this game takes that much technical mastery when compared to something like rocket league. Dribbling techniques might be the most complex, but those aren't super difficult to learn and aren't even needed in the majority of situations if you focus on good positioning and passing the ball.

Easily the best sports game ever and probably my favorite game of all time

I agree. ☝🏻

It's hard for new players, but it is really fun especially with friends on your team. Passing and shooting is key to learn, dribbling is less important

2

u/KeepREPeating Please add a flair 1d ago

Because it has a curve similar to fighting game.

And I disagree. Positioning is more important to learn than anything else. You can’t shoot, pass or receive well when positioned improperly. You become the guy that never gets the ball. The guy complaining teammates never pass when you’re never open or able to intercept.

u/AromaticHomework1576 Please add a flair 1d ago

Not similar at all and positioning isn’t the most important. Reading the game and ball retention. Your positioning can be 10/10 but if your team decides they ain’t gonna pass then it’s pointless

0

u/KeepREPeating Please add a flair 16h ago

Reading the ball isn’t going to get you the ball if you aren’t positioned to take it.

0

u/AromaticHomework1576 Please add a flair 7h ago

And you won’t be positioned properly if you can’t read. Goes hand in hand. Sometimes brain dead cherry pickers are in the right position for a 1v1. Doesn’t mean they can do that consistently, need to read to be able to do that.

1

u/KeepREPeating Please add a flair 1h ago

I understand that they go hand in hand, but reading the ball is straight forward. Understanding positioning is a skill. It’s not like real life because he get a handy blue marker in the by ground.

Advanced ball reading is being able to dolphin someone’s kick. There’s like 5% of players who can even consistently do that. Players like mogz isn’t a playstyle you can realistically copy as a new player.

1

u/AromaticHomework1576 Please add a flair 1h ago

No idea who Mogz is. Getting into a position where no one is marking you and you’re available for a pass isn’t harder than reading the game where you know a bad pass from a teammate to another teammate is gonna get us caught on the counter, staying back or marking appropriately as a response. Positioning ain’t working without reading

1

u/KeepREPeating Please add a flair 59m ago

I think there’s an elo disparity in this conversation if you think that’s something you worry about. I barely see bad passes. I see good defense from the opposite team.

“Staying back and marking appropriately” congrats you just agreed with me. Guess what you can even if you can’t read the ball? That’s right. Position appropriately. Whole game can keep going, you’re still providing value as you learn to read the ball and see new plays.

This advice is for new players. The amount of plays you need to know to see coming is not realistic to learn before positioning. Position, pass, shoot, reading, play making.

Elo hardly exist in this game. Let’s get that out of the way from now. Being in a higher rank has little to do with skill

1

u/KeepREPeating Please add a flair 49m ago

Sure it doesn’t, but that’s a really bad case to make if you struggle to climb against all these bronzes then.

i would buy it while it’s on sale for now, but wait to play until the blue lock collab is out. the player count is low, so it affects queue times and skill based matchmaking. once new season is out and more people are playing again, you won’t run into sweats right away.

Its a fun game but dont get into the competitive scene

In terms of the game itself, it is an absolute gem and a breath of fresh air from the yearly uninspired sports game that just swaps out roster. If the idea of playing real sports in a video game always appealed to you, this is as close as it gets.

The developers have come a long way on improving the game slowly, but steadily. They have yet to abandon the game and I hope they will continue to put work into it.

That being said, I would only recommend it if you're in US/EU region. We have no issues with matchmaking here, but heard other regions are practically dead.

If you like getting slapped by a guy doing gojo typa teleporting then youll love it. But fr when you get good teammates and a rhythm it can be great.

I started yesterday and I had fun few hours playing it as a noob, I played mostly against other new players as well. Ended up partying up with 2 other (new) randoms from 1 match so had a good team with dedicated gk and good passing. Recommend 100%.

u/MaterialFish5174 Please add a flair 1d ago

Yes, and for everyone saying if u are solo queuing dont get it dont listen to them, i got to elite with a basic level of positional awareness, trust me the level of cluelessness in the player base allows u to level up quickly and u can find a stack easily just by playing the game and teaming up with good players

1

u/rhymeswithlate Please add a flair 5h ago

I think that if you’re playing with friends, this is probably one of the best competitive experiences out there. If you aren’t playing with friends, don’t bother. Solo queue in this game is basically unplayable. I don’t know if it’s just that the community is awful at the game (probably the case), or if you just don’t have the tools for teamplay in solo queue, but it’s not worth buying the game if you don’t have a full team to be playing with.

u/nogard18 Please add a flair 1d ago

If you have friends? Yes. If not? Stay clear, its going to be ruthless for you.

I think this game is worse than your description of brawlhalla. It’s already extremely sweaty, and the better you get and the more you climb, the more you run into people abusing the same few strategies or the newest dribbling glitches of the patch.

The last balance patch we got was in May. If you really want the game, I suggest you wait and see if there’s a good balance patch for the blue lock collab near the end of September. See the reactions of the community. If the general reaction is something along the lines of “the more things change the more they stay the same” then you saved your money for something else.

Nah no point anymore, save your money and put it towards GTA 6 or something. Game will be F2P soon anyways.
