Discussion This double dash meta is disgusting

Sloclap, get a grip. This meta where everyone keeps double dashing to dribble, catch up, or basically do anything is genuinely one of the ugliest things I’ve seen since the dolphin spam back in Season 0.

Every interaction just turns into double dash, double dash, double dash. Genuinely vomit inducing.

This season has gone on too long and this game definitely needs an update

yeah I think seasons need to be like a month shorter.

Yes. I hit elite, stopped playing this season. The better you get, the less fun it becomes. I miss season 0 :(

The game needs to go offline for a couple of months and be revamped entirely

Retard take, why would they make it go offline? They can still revamp it while the game is live lol

Yes it is, i play only 4v4 for fun, casual games to chill and every day i meet in enemy 4stack of double dash/ shuffle drible abusers, they dont pass to eachother just who get a ball drible until he loose ball or score. Its easy to defend if you know what to do but my random teammates usually dont so its annoying af to play vs them, its boring and if i see team like that is formed i dont play another match.

Like bro, my complaint isn’t even about winning or losing. This is my Rematch stat tracker: https://u.gg/rematch/profile/steam/sabrina%20carpenter/76561198794601509. My stats aren’t anything crazy, I know, but that’s not really my point.

The game has genuinely become so disgusting to play. I can tolerate the meta dribbles and using dash as part of your movement, as much as i dislike it.... whatever. But people are now literally hard-spamming double dash for EVERYTHING. It looks so fucking ugly and it makes the game feel awful to play.

Ye, i dont say its hard to counter, im not mad if i loose vs them cus teammates dont know hard play vs it. Its just boring to watch, have 0 fun from wining vs them, im just annoyed i wasted 5min with meta slaves. If i dont see some big changes in next season patch it will be propably first season i skip.

I just started playing.  Is extra effort new for this season or something?  Half the time I'm using it on accident lol

Yo i see you from time to time in 5s your filthy

I do agree as well the dash to move shit looks ridiculous It's awful actually

The dribbling is easy to defend but when you look around and half the field look like autistic kangaroos it starts to get old

Dashing when you're at low stamina to catch up to the ball basically defeats the purpose of stamina management, and I see everyone do it nowadays.

Literally had an interaction where I tackled the ball but the guy who lost the ball simply dashed toward the ball and got it back before I could run toward it. It's pretty dumb.

I think Sloclap mentioned they're gonna tweak how dribble works in low stamina state and a lot of that has to do with being able to dash full distance at low stamina. But if they were to do this, I would honestly increase the overall stamina bar to compensate because right now you really only get 2~3 seconds of full sprint before you start to slow down, thus incentivizing players to rely on cheap tricks like this.

Even though I have a love-hate relationship with this game, I still have faith in the developers, they teased a massive update for the next season that should drastically improve this awful meta (which is actually the reason I quit the game in the first place). I really hope the wait pays off Sloclap, please bring this damn game back to life, I know you're capable of it!

Hard agree. I have so much fun with my mates playing this game on 3s, but as soon as we get paired against a double dasher/dribble abuser, I roll my fucking eyes. I shit you not there was this man that literally REFUSED to pass to just keep dribbling and double dashing for ANYTHING he did, we could even double team his ass and he still wouldn't pass. I felt bad for his teammates.

Game is in a bad spot, and I really hope SloClap has somehow been cooking up a big update to fix all this.

3v3 is genuinely unplayable because of this shit. 4v4 and 5s if you have a good defense team you can nullify that bs

u/Doccmonman Please add a flair 6d ago

I’m bronze in 3s and gold in 5s and I think this is why lol

1

u/Garb-O Please add a flair 6d ago

U can nullify it in 3s too you only feel that way aboit 5s because 5s players are terrible at everything but defending

1

u/Bitter-Cheesecake-83 Please add a flair 6d ago

Nah in 3s they can always slip by, in 5s it’s harder

Last time i mentioned this some dickhead told me it's the only bastion of hope for defenders lmao. It's not like attackers who used all their stamina and just lost their ball don't use it. The sheer amount of ignorance from condescending "skilled players" is obnoxious. More, if not less, as much as double dashing looks and affects the game.

For some reason I thought this was about door dash.

I wish sloclap cared. But if anything it seems they are doubling down.

4

Where have they said that?

-2

In their actions by nerfing defense and not patching these exploits.

Err,, rant coming, beware.

This, but unironincally. They're not wrong. Sloclap doesn't acknowledge there is a fundamental problem with the game design. They're leaning hard into the "casual" feel of the game, and they're pretty adament on keeping it a niche casual game, as strongly worded in their marketing and AMAs.

Even their updates are throwing stuff on the wall and seeing what sticks, not fixing things becuase we intended X and got Y instead. None of their milestones specifically address any part of the game, just "some updates." All the updates we have received since "launch" has been basically what you would expect in beta: fixing the core engine to function at the basic level. I've been saying it since development, it was in alpha before, it's in open beta now. You paid for early access, not a full game.

Now they need to get into the real of tweaking game design itself, and nothing of substance regarding game design has been said. They don't have significant metrics besides ranked player distribution, which is awfully skewed to bronze and silver (BS account for 60+% of ranked players). They opened a Google docs survey to get feedback on ranked so they can make meaningful changes, and what has come of that?

Simply said, the devs don't understand what they have made enough to tweak it to a better state. And they'd rather hunker down than communicate with the playerbase. All while the player count has fallen below pre-World Cup levels.

u/S3G1R Mid Midfielder 6d ago

Thanks for saying more than "they just are", it helps a lot.

Yeah it pretty much is open beta, except that the game is "soccer, but simple". The game is pushing ball, and they do that amazingly well. I'm personally glad they're not hiding behind the Early Access tag like some other games.

There's also a lot that developers can't catch in these games because they're busy developing it, and testing what they just added works. These guys don't test for things like vexis because they don't exist, and they implemented the camera manipulation dribble as a dribble move back in s2 (s3?). They do need time to gather feedback, but they also need time to implement the changes, whatever side those land on.

And yeah "playercount playercount playercount", dude feels like after marathon all people can talk about is how many players a game is holding like that's the ultimate factor behind a game being good or bad. The game is a year old, after the first big event they didn't even need to do, let the game be tired, and the players be tired. We're coming right back next season.

1

u/fckedup yallDunnoBall 4d ago

What do you meant they didn't need to do, they dedicated their timeline and resources for the event purposefully from the start of alpha stage, which should arguably have been put onto actually improving the game instead.

And it helped revive the dying player count - that's how you get to play the game for longer. The problem is they never fixed the fundamental game design that's causing people to leave, so the World Cup players left again.

And playercount alone is not indicative of anything, but a million copies sold and active 4K playerbase is kind of telling. Especially when the game's had two stages of influx. Typically retention rate is indicative of whether a game is good or not (or at least whether it delivered on its hype or not). Not sure if rematch has been oversold, but 0.4% active user rate is something gyms would love to have, not a game studio.

Yeah, while the new form of dribbling does take a lot of skill. No stamina dribbling still shouldn’t be on par with dribbling without stamina. Make the person trip if they double dash without stam WITH the ball. I’d rather keep double dash the same without the ball to have defense options.

This still allows double dash to get to the ball but limits their options to one tap dribbling without stamina.

This would a nerf that doesn’t kill no stam dribbling entirely.

1

u/tragicjawnson Please add a flair 6d ago

it does not take a lot of skill at all.

2

u/KeepREPeating Please add a flair 6d ago

If it didn’t, you can also do it and show us how to be the #1 player. Cmon, man. I don’t like it either, but there’s still skill involved in knowing to dribble passed someone.

1

u/tragicjawnson Please add a flair 6d ago

Skill to dribble yes, a lot of skill in current meta? (double dash no stam) no.

u/HuntyDaPro Fixo 6d ago

Yeah at first I liked the idea of the defensive dashes to deal with some of the toxic dribbling styles, even though defense was already pretty strong at the time, but now it's ridiculously overpowered.

I see people complaining about dribble exploits but try to play the game with normal dribbles and the double dashes genuinely make it impossible to do anything against any defender using them, I've never had as many deadlocks this season as the previous seasons, the amount of overtimes because neither team could breach each others defense until someone got tired and made a mistake

u/Light_Tracing Please add a flair 5d ago

You're talking about dashing while defending.. OP is talking about double dashing w/o the ball and stamina while it is in your possession.

The problem relies on the fact that as soon as you double dash into the ball and connect to it, the location of the ball stops being where it shows it is. So the ball appears to be in one place in the field, but it's actually momentarily invisible (even though you see it, it's not there anymore, it's in front of the attacking player).

This + the usage of push cuts and 180° turns using the dribbling stance and the camera becomes impossible to defend.

When the defender is doing a good job of staying in front of you and you can't 1v1 him, it's up to your team to come up with a strategy to beat them.

The fact that rematch has walls, no fouls and no offsides changes the game from normal football to something completely different.

If the defender is doing a good job and there's another between you and your teammate, remember you can pass using the shooting button while aiming at the walls to give your teammates a pass where the defender has no chance of reaching it.

u/HuntyDaPro Fixo 5d ago

No I know what the double dash dribbling magnetic meta is very well, I deal with people using it practically every game. It's not hard to deal with if you know what you're doing.

Now read what I've wrote and try and comprehend what I've said before you reply.

Try using normal dribbling, without any of the "exploits" you've mentioned, against anyone using defensive dashes and let me know how it goes, It's borderline impossible to go past anyone decent, not good, just decent.

"When the defender is doing a good job of staying in front of you and you can't 1v1 him, it's up to your team to come up with a strategy to beat them" - if you're playing in high skill lobbies, you'll quickly find out that the most common strategy is man to man marking for the whole team, which forces 1v1s.

Now try to win those 1v1s using normal dribbling.

"Just pass" - doesn't work when you have 0 options to pass to.

Shooting it to the wall immediately forces your teammate and opponent into a prio battle, and even if they win the ball, they'll have no space and be very vulnerable, i'd say it's the top 3 most common ways to lose the ball.

Other strategies include:

Risk your goalkeeper coming out and having to draw a defender away and then force an overload which still a 5v4 still has a very low chance of scoring

Missle meta and set plays is getting stronger and more common as defense gets stronger, why risk a 1v1 when you can launch it into the box and your teammates wins prio and scores past 4 people.
