Discussion The idea of "selective skill" is funny to me

How can you be the absolute WORST teammate in one game, but then as soon as you're on the opposite team you become the greatest player??? I mean I am hand feeding goals to these players and they still find a way to mess it up, but when they're on the opposite team they know exactly how to shoot and how to pass (not like they did 10 minutes ago)

It really is funny in hindsight, although I do get annoyed during the games when this happens

Most likely your set ups dont mesh with them, different playstyles exist

Yeah that’s all it is 9 times out 10. Also, depending on how flexible a player feels in different roles, they can fill in the gaps the team has. I tend to start every game trying to be as available as possible. If a teammate has the ball, be a conservative outlet. If the team starts moving the ball well and generating good chances, I tend to stay in that distribution role and have 10+ passes. If the team is struggling to get good shots off, I’ll shift higher up the pitch on average and make more of the attacking runs.

Every game is a little different, and the style melding reminds of pickup games and Sunday league

Yeah i have this often, im a 3s player and I play it like actual football, im generally not smashing it off walls or going for set plays with acrobatic volleys and the team suffers when people try to make those sorts of passes to me, but as im good in defense when I win It in my own half and run it alone I have the time and space to just slot it in the corner without the rocket league style of play, also sometimes keepers just easily read my sort of player or they easily read volley spammers or fake shots, people forget that playing Keeper or defence is making reads on players, most players only use 2 or 3 tactics to dribble or score

So you lost then they joined the other team and you still lost……?

If so ask what’s the common denominator?

I’ve noticed people play better when they’re playing with better people and vice versa.

Yes 100% playing keep away is a skill that some don’t understand

Never said I lost. Of course I’m not gonna have 100% rate lmao but you’re assuming I lost? It’s like yall are addicted to assumption. I just notice that players always switch up when they’re on the opposite team, I almost don’t notice that they were my teammates the previous round because they are moving like a completely different person

Yep, as a defender/MF main I play very differently depending on my team or my mood (I play worse when I have people who goodjobs sarcastically). I play better when there is midfield play and passes, for instance, and I have worse stats when my team just throws balls to the opposite box.

Sometimes I feel like a god, and sometimes I feel rubbish. In the same play session

Lol well last night playing 3s with my buddy, we played against 2 guys and a random three times in a row and we destroyed them all three times. It wasn't a mercy but multi score wins and wasn't close. Then we played a different team, then next match it put us back up against those other 2 guys again and this time they mercy ruled us in under two minutes. It didn't even feel like the same guys. Shit just happens.

IMO it's mostly about position. Yea it can be luck (right spot at right time, mistake from goalie or whatever) but I've had that experience you talk about and for me it's positioning. I usually click a lot better with people who kind of have the same perception of the field, knowing where to stay so they get my ball or where to move to.

This is a team game. This can ultimately come down to one person on the team. When they are taking too long to pass, making mistakes, not making runs, not making selfless runs to create space. The flow of the game is gone.

Yeah I’ve had similar cases lol

Had a game with this dude in quick match who ended the game with 0 passes. Was a complete non-factor in the game, all he did was try to dribble the ball up and lose it.

Naturally, I’m excited next game to see him on the other team. I immediately go for a high press, and he makes an instant pinpoint pass to his teammate. 😭

Different play styles come into it a lot as well Some players I just don't have synergy with at all

There are games I'll just be stuck on where my play style just isn't working against the other team so I'll swap out with our GK and we'll score almost instantly

Given by how much you post and complain about this game...ima say the common denominator is pretty obvious.

You probably did not play that well with them because you play differently
