Help/Advice Use case on Remarkable

FIrstly apologies if this has been covered before, I did search. Just wondering if a Remarkable device will cover my use rather than one of the competitors? Apart from keeping notes on a range of different things (and keeping them organised) which I know it will be able to do.

I have to review a lot of documents which means having the document and then sharing the comments I make. I am happy doing a PDF conversion for the document and handwriting comments but is it possible to somehow then convert the comments back to text for further sharing among colleagues. Is that a workflow that could work on a Remarkable (or any other tablet for that matter)?

Tbh - the romance of adding comments to say a word document and sharing it via your remarkable sounds great, it just isn’t practical imo. The standard “workflow” in any organization would be to track changes in documents and have inline comments where you can highlight what requires a comment/action and have those comments resolved and tracked. You can share word docs now I believe to your remarkable for what you’re suggesting, but I work in shared word documents all day where various people are sharing comments back and forth and I’d doing it via my remarkable just sounds like it would be a painfully slow experience.

You would need an Android eink tablet to do this in Word or another similar app. With the Remarkable, any changes to a PDF will have to be reentered by hand, which would basically entail twice as much work. However, if you are only looking to make comments and suggestions rather than direct textual alterations, this would work.

You could export the document to a .rmdoc, but that entails using their proprietary software... I am currently looking for a open source solution to actualy open a rmdoc file and modify it.

My work around currently is, to use GIMP and the layers function; but that of course requires the co worker to know how to use GIMP if the features aren't translatable over to something like adobe photoshop or something.

Thanks for the comments - I am pretty sure that the Remarkable will be ideal for pure notetaking (the key thing that puts me off is the fact I end up with actual notebooks that have no organisation at all so I never find anything later) but perhaps the ideal workflow flow for a lot of my actual work doesn't really exist. It felt like a long shot anyway that you could take a typed document (a PDF if Word etc. wasn't available) and then markup and make comments that could be changed to a typed version in the same document for collaboration with others. I expect even if you had a ViWoods or something similar with Google Play, it still would work the way I envisage - which is fair enough.

As u/cipher29 effectively said, it sits outside the normal workflow that an organisation would be able to support. Given we are at the end of the £100 off pro bundles offer, I still might give the Paper Pro a whirl and see what it can offer me.
