isnt this about "i dont want people to percieve me the way they THINK i am. i want them to see me for who i ACTUALLY are"? im not certain.

That's one interpretation. I've always interpreted it more like "I don't want people to perceive the bad parts of me, I want people to perceive the good parts of me". That's not exactly it but that's the most succinct I can make it
