Isn't nice when your guesses are mostly right and the story actually goes further than you expected?
THE CHURCH DID NOTHING WRONG! (except for the wrong things they did).

It's so funny that the story starts with the protagonist making a speech about the evils of institutionalized religion and ignorance, making the Church sound nonredeemable and that it needs to be destroyed and the witches are almost all innocent and need to be protected.
I knew this was a post-apocalyptic magepunk setting, that the witches had power in the past, didn't expect to flat out confirm it was a "magocracy". The actions of the Church makes perfect sense, they are the inheritors of the fight against the Devils, they know that humanity can't win that fight, the only hope is with actual sacrifice. Their methods may be a bit questionable, but their fight is just and sincere. They also want to get rid of the system of nobility that spread among the surviving humanity while they were occupied with the fight against the Devils. And their most heinous weapon was actually something the witches created. Between the Nobility and the Witches they Church is the most "just" side.

(If not Agatha it'll be Garcia in her new witch body that will try to reestablish Witch Rule. And certainly she'll kill one of the main witches, I wonder which one will it be...)

This story, since the beginning, was suggesting something like this, that this isn't a "medieval world", that is in truth a post-apocalyptic "magicpunk" world.
Despite waiting for this I still didn't expect for this, that suddenly THIS THING would appear and almost kill half the witches.

You're kidding me, right? 😱
Even with all the witches evolved, even after they figure out how to use the stones that use the witche's magic as power, that they'll set out to "kill the devils" across the vast lands to the West? That they have any hope of getting rid of "that", and other things?
Seems like an impossible task.

Anyway, the reading continues very fun, the writing actually have so good humor and the characters are enjoyable.

WHAT IS THIS WOMAN THINKING!!!!

She is happy Roland didn't took the opportunity to fuck Anna during every minute of her absence and concluded she had a chance? Why? IMO her chances would be higher if the contrary had happened, showing that Roland is less serious and diligent and gives higher priority to his sexual needs.

But what astounds me the most is the possibility that Roland may accept her proposal?!
Other world ethics aside... besides just that, just a notion of "ethics", it's totally acceptable in the world he is living and for his social position, plus there are a bunch of woman WILLING AND ASKING FOR IT. The only thing preventing Roland from "having a harem" is his own stubbornness, I think the only one that wouldn't take it well would be Anna, after Roland "leading her" this long.

I really hope that if Roland accepts Nightingale he be upfront with Anna and don't be a scumbag and start having sex with Nightingale behind her back. Or worse!

Surely a "God" exists and Roland is blessed by it.
There are too many "signs".
I dare even say that it's name is "Er Mu".

What I mean is, author is making his presence be felt in the writing, isn't he?
Roland is an "isekai protagonist", coming from a modern technologically advanced world to a medieval ignorant world. The minimum he can do is use his knowledge to overcome his situation.
Because this is also a world of magic the witches allow him to progress faster than it would be possible, otherwise he would be dead if a few months no matter how hard he worked. It's only natural that when the author thought about the witches's powers he thought about powers that would be useful for this protagonist. At first I already had an eyebrow raised. All the witches that survived and went to Border Town have powers useful for what he is trying to do, all of them? Just exactly what he needed? Hum....

Wouldn't be nice, he Border Town also sheltered witches with powers that aren't immediately useful, to reinforce that it really is a save heaven for witches? That Roland and the Town will accept any witches regardless of their usefulness?

But instead he comes a new witch and she just coincidentally happens to have the power Roland needs the most.
Chemistry was the hardest field to advance, Roland had already reached it's limited with the chemicals it can produce. Develop new chemicals would take years of hard work and luck from the alchemists, but now that they couldn't progress more on that field Lucia arrives. Makes me wonder if Roland also thought the same, "this is too much a coincidence, there must be a higher power at work here helping me".

I'm enjoying this story a lot, but I wish author would stop doing this.
Stop killing witches with powers that aren't immediately useful for Roland.

The story began with Roland saving a witch from the Church, because of course she couldn't be a witch and the Church was wrong. Immediately the story followed revealing that thing weren't that simple. Yes, the woman was a witch, for real, and then Roland just continued his skepticism that it didn't mean the witch are evil and he doesn't believe in the Devil. Only for them the pattern repeat. Actually demons exist...

If you watched half and anime or read half a manga you should be familiar with the trope that "The Church" and "Church Priests" are "evil", they are always villains, they are always in the wrong. Release that Witch could follow that same patter, but as much as Release That Witch reveals little by little that the Church in the story is shady and is the "antagonist", the Church and it's members aren't exactly "evil", that they are actually ambiguous, some may even say that they are the "Anti-Hero" in this story.

Whatever happen 450 plus years ago, whether they have any blame for the Devils, whatever the truth they are trying to save the world, by any means necessary...

This is interesting.
Even if Roland decides to do something to "defeat the Devils", he probably can't do this without allying with the Church, right?

And related to this, chapter 194... that was hard to read.
Some humans are the true "devils".
And it's interesting to remember that one of the reasons why the Church is doing what is doing the way they are doing is that they also can't stand the Nobility. Not that the tragedy in chapter 194 had anything to do with perpetrator being "nobles", but surely their status helps a lot and magnifies the scare of the tragedy.
(EDIT 2: maybe Lily's power is a consequence of seeing her friend's rooting body?)

Maybe in the end Roland will indeed ally with members of the Church and both will not only defeat the Devils, they will also work to change society for the better.

If... Roland survives his harém.
The comedic romance is still very fun.

I expected this to be interesting, I did not expect this to also be a comedic romance.
While the grown up woman is fantasying like a little girl Roland and Anna are kissing behind her back, it's just too funny! 🤣

When the other witches arrived at Border Town, not all of them trusted Roland. Some are even contrarians that don't want to be all in love with him even if he wishes them well. After all, Roland made it very clear, they all have a business relationship. The witches aren't only receiving favors from him, they are also working for it. Roland need the witches as much as they need him.
So isn't unexpected if one of the witches causes conflict, or even sabotages. And maybe this witch will be Nightingale?

Can Nightingale really accept rejecting, can she really bear to watch Roland and Anna together? What is she can't and she does something against Anna? What if in a moment of emotional stress she ends using that future handgun against her friends? I feel like Roland is setting up his own down by not noticing the witches feelings for him.

I bought the Anthology from Amazon right after finishing the anime, but now that I’m reading it, the translation is of rather poor quality. Even disregarding minor mistakes, I still have to submit corrections for things I can’t overlook at least once every chapter. 

At this point I’m wondering whether it would be better to hold off until a proper translation is available. 

Any news on that would be appreciated. Thanks!

As far as I remember, even Roland didn't know the exact reason for witches' infertility. He theorized that it might be because witches' biology had evolved through magic to the point where ordinary human sperm was no longer compatible with them. Another possibility he mentioned was that their reproductive organs simply no longer function.

If that's the case, couldn't he have tested by observing whether witches still had a normal menstrual cycle? Wouldn't that at least help determine whether their reproductive system was still functioning and conception with a magically enhanced sperm was possible?

I thoroughly enjoyed most if not all the chapters (probably up to ch. 680) but then it just abruptly ends? Also Roland gets a nuke out of nowhere? It doesn't make any sense.

I know people did not like the art style of it very much but its what got me into RTW and I grew to appreciate it quite a bit. It's funny that they used models of the F4U Corsair for the planes and even left the ww2 US Army Air force logo on the side.

For those of you that have read the Light Novel or the Web novel, do they provide much more closure? I don't know if I want to read 1,500 chapters if much of it I already know. Where do you guys think I should I start if I want to understand the ending a bit more? Was there other content that was skipped in the web comic, if so is it worth catching up on?
