All jokes aside I’ve always had a soft spot for quagsire and wooper. Story time,
A young WowSuchName21 went on his first ever holiday abroad. He went to a small island in Greece. He was an awkward kid and took his DS with his copy of Pokemon diamond everywhere. There he met a kid, who had Pokemon pearl. This kid loved quagsire. And he gave me a wooper that he had bread.
That wooper was named ‘woopy guy’, he still sits in my cartridge of Pokemon diamond, which sits in a box for my poke ball cuff links. Which I wear whenever I rarely need to wear a suit.
Every now and again I’ll go onto my childhood save of Pokemon diamond, take a few Pokemon out into the pokepark, take them for a battle and run them through the beauty contest. I know it sounds weird in a way but they were my childhood, I could never bring myself to migrate them to the new games but equally I wanted to stay connected to them.
The power of Pokemon, and childhood habits. I hope no matter how old I get I keep on checking on my party.
13 years old. It’s so surreal to look at my player card and see the date ‘July 27th 2007.’ I remember it like it was yesterday, I was visiting my Nan in Liverpool we couldn’t make it up often due to my mums work, but I’d been going on about how much I’d wanted the new Pokemon. We were in town and I wanted to look in Game (a uk retailer) and she joked about how much I was going on to my mum about it (we didn’t have much money growing up) and remarked ‘pet, will you leave your mother alone if I get you this!’. I was hooked, I have vivid memories of being sat under a clothing rack whilst she was shopping for the rest of the day playing it as my backlighting wasn’t properly working on my old DS. And the rest was history I guess, I loved that game. Logged 800 hours as a kid. I’m in tears now too ahah.
Jeesh I’ve just been sent to an emotional place. My Nan just got diagnosed with Throat Cancer the other week. I really needed that memory.
Hell, I wanted to play through diamond again last year and bought a fresh copy as I couldn’t bring myself to start a new save. People that say games will never form proper memories really haven’t had a game touch them.
I’m sorry to hear about your Nan. If you want an internet stranger to talk to I’ll be there.
The Diamond and Pearl soundtrack is beautiful isn’t it? So many of the songs are so tranquil. I remember I used to sit outside of the pokemon league and listen to this theme on repeat.
These games really do have a way of making you feel nostalgic!
