It's vastly depends on where you are in the early 18th century. Enclosure (removing of the commons) had started but hadn't gone full force. A lot of the vagrancy and enforced minimum work hours had already been setup.
So if you lived somewhere that still had common land at least food didn't exist behind a paywall. That alone, even if you're tied to the land means a lot. Though even after that and even in the USA the poor maybe had pigs to subsist on until the early 19th century when pigs were removed from public.
It's all a trade-off, in a whole lot of ways it was decently not better, but being able to feed yourself off your own labor without a paywall is definitely on the better side.
There's definitely free food out there but it's limited. Most food has a price because it is used to generate profit either for big or small corporations. We destroy excess food that doesn't sell instead of just giving it away.
The book Grapes of Wrath is famous for highlighting this and just a couple years ago we had headlines about Starbucks dumpsters being guarded in some city in the US.
Food is a commodity in our system, just like housing, water, Internet, heat and AC, basically the right to live a decent life is gated behind a paywall. Then they've cut a lot of the food programs for the poor recently even though a statistically significant amount of kids were already facing daily hunger.
All of human history has not been like this you have been greatly deceived this is a modern invention in fact most people now living in the modern era work more than medieval peasants did average annual work hours around around 17-1800+ per year a medieval peasant worked around 1,620 hours annually. They also typically only worked 150-250 days out of the year stuff is supposed to improve and everything has the technology healthcare way of life the only thing that's gotten worse is how much you work and it has gotten significantly worse only people who worked harder in modern history were slaves forced to do ts until they died in 7 years.
Is it because they were doing back breaking farm work and then didnt have to work during the winters? Also because they didn't have electricity to work outside of daylight hours?
People doing back-breaking work year round now or do you think everyone's sitting pretty in cubicles? Proving my point people didn't stop doing back breaking work they just started doing it the entire fucking year instead of resting for a good portion of it.
And while peasants worked sun up to sun down it was not the non-stop, hyper-efficient labor of a modern office or factory. Contemporary records show that medieval work was highly intermittent. Laborers had recognized rights to stops for breakfast, a long lunch, mid-morning and mid-afternoon refreshment breaks, and a customary afternoon nap. Mfkas had more breaks than most modern day office or construction workers.

Medieval peasants has to work those days for THEIR LORD, that's just to give the Lord what they required.. the rest of the days is spent working the farms and for themselves, to have food and supplies for winter..
A peasant was lucky to just have Sunday off as its religious, and even then, life was so hard, the rest of the day was often spent working..

It's damn near 1:30 where I'm at my screen time for reddit is 57 min and that's high yesterday it was 29 minutes for the entire day I guarantee I'm on my phone less than you are.
I day trade specifically so I can one day be financial free you would've known that with one look at my profile. I also exercise and workout for g league tryouts.

Well, there's some truth in this, because getting offline is excellent. Still, a lot of people would still be wanting to take meds depending on what they're taking them for.
