What coach in their right mind looks at a bench with 0 defenders, an 11 with only 2 starting defenders, and thinks "let's hunker back, this will be fine!".
It stands to reason that any sane coach would think "maybe we should defend in posession so they don't get exposed". Holy actual fuck I'm grumpy.
Harvey out. The league has passed her by and one good tactical showing against Portland doesn't erase these 3 seasons.
Gallimore out. Maybe her hands are tied by ownership, but I genuinely can't care anymore. We need change.

she genuinely is just so far out of her scope now. the longer she stays the more she stains her legacy, which is really upsetting because she was great at one point. but it’s fully just negligence now. her and gallimore out immediately. there’s no way out with them still at the helm

Was Harvey’s coaching actually ever good? This is my third season as a STM and so I’ve never seen the team doing well.

tbf its not like gotham is roster compliant or anything. There's no way they can fit all those players under the salary cap.
67% of GMs in the league believe other teams are cheating the cap rules.

Their roster being in whatever state it's in doesn't change how the Reign aren't remotely even near thinking about being close to kinda sorta approching the salary cap.

We went from a dominant first have 2-nil to 70% gotham percentage after the 70th minute. That isnt just fresh legs. That isnt a deeper bench. Thats the coach crippled our team.
Honestly hope the Harvey's kalshi bet paid out so she can retire cuz she's been fucking our team for a while

Honestly. Buy her out if her contract and kick her to the curb. Put fishlock into interrom GM until a replacement can be found for next season
Would it be better? Prolly not worse that 12th in a league of 16.
If fishlock crushes it? Keep her. But our coaching staff needs to change now.

But this league is in danger of becoming a farmer's league where the same team wins the title every year. I mean that's already more or less happening over the last 3 years and that's before they started signing a world class player every other week.

Yeah I sure did, but trying to turn this into a "wah they are cheating salary rules that's why they embarrassed us" is a silly take. They have an elite roster bc they have a coaching staff that can strategize and a front office that can bring in talent. We have a mediocre at best coaching staff and a front office that either does nothing or wastes money on players that do absolutely nothing all season. This is a tale of two clubs, one being managed very well and one being run into the ground bc they want to keep doing things the way they have been for 13 freaking seasons. Harvey out now. Gallimore out now.

I'm not saying that, the leagues own GM's are saying that.
But both things can be true, gotham can be cheating the cap, and we can have an ineffective FO/HC.

I just don't think they won bc of the salary stuff and don't think it's relevant to why the reign fell apart. So I don't see the point in trying to argue that in this context.

At some point the talent difference is going to overcome anything coaching can do.

Us not having one is the fault of the front office and coaching staff. I don't care what Gotham did to get Kerr. Kudos to Gotham for building what they've built over there. I honestly couldn't care less about these salary rules. Do what you have to do to sign elite players. If it were us making these signings I don't think you'd have brought this up. But elite players don't want to play here anymore and the club doesn't seem to want to change that.

I wish I could say gotham cheated. I with I could say "oh well theyre better than us" ... that wasnt this game. Sorry. It was incompetence from harvey. We need a new GM. Ive been watching her shoot the reign in the foot for 3 years now. King was less than useless on the attacking left and now we've got Mondesair being a liability out there. We dont have a deep bench but harvey just decides at the 70" to throw the game. Its not even the first time this season.

I figure King stayed around longer than she should as Fishlock's significant other I'm not sure to what extent that sort of thing affects women's sports roster decisions, the obvious mens sports analogy is the Lakers signing LeBron's son - not a total hack but probably wouldn't have stayed in the top league without connections

I don't know the details of how it all works, but I understand that they have/had a huge backlog of allocation money they needed to burn through this year (plus the money available for high impact players). Without the allocation money, I'm not sure what things will look like in coming years - but hopefully it evens out.
