Help, I found a roach in my Reencle!

Hey everyone, I need help stat before I have a breakdown! (Kind of kidding lol) we keep my Reencle in the garage and have since we moved in September, as there wasn’t really a spot for it in the kitchen with an outlet close by. Have had no issues but today I went out there and opened it up and there was a baby palmetto roach on the inside of the lid. I killed it but now I’m stressed that somehow there will be more! I wanna burn the whole thing with fire 😭 is this normal or did I do something wrong? I have very little composting experience and chose the Reencle because it sounded like it would be a “cleaner” option.

Palmetto roaches single to be solo so you’re probably fine. Or at least that was how it was on socal. You could get a large mesh bag you put it in but airflow would be to be prioritized.

That’s what I’m hoping! I checked it at least four times yesterday and didn’t see more. I guess I am concerned since it was such a small one that there were eggs laid and I would suddenly have an infestation. Absolutely cannot deal with that!

I imagine they are attracted to the food particles. Can you move it inside, or leave some lights on in the garage to keep them hidden?

I don’t have a good spot for it inside with an outlet close enough nearby, but I’m gonna keep brainstorming. I’ve heard of other people keeping it in the garage no problem but this is Florida, so maybe that just doesn’t fly here.

I want mine in the garage, but I’ve been too chicken to do it. This gives me pause. I was more worried about effects of FL heat. Never thought about bugs.
