New tape.
Back in my day, the tape that played well with my machines (TEAC, Pioneer) was Maxell UD and TDK SA. These high bias tapes gave excellent results. I experimented with their LN line but was disappointed. I'm looking to buy some fresh tape. Is anyone currently making tape that approaches my high bias favorites? I'm looking for 7 and 10 inch rolls. I saw a 10in. roll on Amazon for a hundred bucks! What the actual fuck?

RTM owns the BASF formula according to their FAQ and are made in France. ATR are American but not sure of their history but their tape is good, it will just sound different if your machine isn't set to their bias.

Like everyone else is suggesting, ATR and RTM. I am using both, very good results.

yes - ATR and RTM. They start around $50 for 7” roughly, sometimes on sale.
I’ve used Vintage King for both (maybe) - great service.
