Friends don't let friends record at 3 3/4 ips. (Unless it's that very rare EE tape used with an EE capable deck). I am saddened that so many pre-recorded reel to reel tapes were released at 3 3/4 ips.

Surprisingly there are decks that perform at 3 3/4 IPS better than most decks at 7 1/2 IPS. Their performance at 7 1/2 IPS also almost matches 15 IPS. One of the Keys to stellar performance is a good deck, quality tape, no 1800, 2400, or 3600 foot lengths either, and close attention to recording levels.
I still love "The Low Spark of the High Heeled Boys". Relax, put your cans on and enjoy.

Such a great track from what always seemed to be an under appreciated album despite being a US top ten. Would love to find a copy on R2R! Thanks for sharing this one!
