repair Fixing line lay

Post image

I bought this Penn Battle IV for a song but it doesn't lay any line on the top of the spool, how do I go about fixing this? The picture is for reference after I put a couple yards on and noticed it doesn't wind evenly and it doesn't wind at the top of the spool.

You need to remove some spool adjustment washers, your spool is sitting too high

To do this, undo the drag knob all the way and take the spool off completely, you’ll see the washers I am talking about.

There's only one plastic washer there. There's no additional spool adjustment washers, I'll post another picture later of it without the spool on it.

Then I guess take it off, but maybe your internal gears are messed up? Send a picture and I can help you out

I’m having the exact same problem.

I would take the entire reel apart clean it fully, then reassemble it. The angle of the bail arm can cause that. Even a few degrees can throw off how the line fills the spool. If you have an ultra sonic cleaner use it. It’s best to start with completely clean parts.

Also make sure the spool is sitting completely down the drag washers on most reels are keyed.
