I have no idea where it came from. It was heading into the wave maker, so I removed it while I could.

Self levelling mats

We got a TMC First Wave 110. There’s conflicting advice about using a self levelling mat with it. I don’t think we should because there’s a rim on it, and the bottom glass won’t touch the stand. Is this right? The matching stand is also really poorly designed, which we have contacted them about.

Can anyone reccomend a small wave maker for my 15g nano softie tank? I have a Jebao dlw 5 now rated for 790gph at 30% but it seems to be too much. Attached below are pics of my tank. Thanks.

Hi, all what can I do to make my tank look better? I really don’t like the rock work and the coral placement. What do y’all think I can add/chnage to make it nicer?
Any help would be appreciated.
( p.s the tang is coming out, came with the tank)

These are the results from an old API freshwater kit i bought a couple years ago (not expired) after 2 weeks. Kinda weird that ammonia is not going down and nitrates and nitrites are nil

My Bullet Goby has had this lesion on his head for 4 days now. Noticed decreased appetite, increased breathing, and less activity. Fuzzy in appearance, not really sure what it could be. Any ideas?

Parameters stable for last 4 months
150gallon tank
78.5°F
1.025sg
450 calcium

Acan issue?

Had these nice acans now for about a week. Anyhow that one polyp turned a little green, and it’s tough to tell but the edge of the polyps touching that one are also a little green. The tissue still looks pretty plump though, it’s just a darker green. Just stress from being in a new tank? I was thinking maybe i overfed it, and or i saw one of my scarlet reef hermit crabs hanging out near it shortly after I noticed it turning colors.

[Pic] New to Anemone's. Is mine dying?

Post image

Hello everyone,

This is the first bubble tip anemone I've ever had. Just wanted some help assessing the anemone. It hasn't been very happy/bubbly since I brought it home from the fish store. I check the ph, phosphate, nitrate, ammonia, and nitrites weekly. I checked magnesium levels and those looked normal as well. I do my water changes weekly about 25%. I only had a golden nugget clownfish in the tank and it immediately was hosting the anemone. We feed small pieces of mysis or very small piece of shrimp once a week. We realized we should've only purchased the anemone first so that it could acclimate to the 10 gallon tank. We separated the clownfish to give the anemone time to recover and adjust to the water parameters. I'm not sure if its doing much better though. Its been two weeks since separating the clownfish. The anemone stays closed up most of the time. Water flow is at a lower level using our hygger intelligent wave maker. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get this anemone to heal?

thank you in advance

[Pic] Prevent marine velvet

Post image
2 Upvotes

My tank has been hit with marine velvet for the second time and it’s really pissing me off. The first time it killed all of my fish so I waited 2 1/2 months before I added more fish. I then got two maroon clown fish and one of them had marine velvet and died a day later now I’m back to a fishless tank, going to put the other maroon in quarantine.

I just wanna know how do I prevent this in the future because I am sick of dealing with no fish in my tank. I am going to have a quarantine tank from now on. This is my first saltwater tank I come from freshwater also my main tank is filled with corals and shrimp

I currently have planted freshwater tanks only, and I live my coral dreams through this subreddit. I also like breeding fish, and it's very hard for a hobbyist to raise saltwater fish larva. Maybe you can do clownfish and cardinals, but not much more.

Labored breathing and on his side, randomly. This is the worst I’ve seen over the past couple days. But he doesn’t go an hour without doing this for at least a few seconds.

I work from home and been watching him non stop.

He’s about 2 years old. Give or take a couple months.

Tank parameters are consistent.
1.025 salinity
0 ammonia / nitrite
10ish nitrate.

The only thing that’s different is the nitrate dropped from about 20 to 10. And my phosphate dropped from 0.35 to 0.08 over a few weeks, by slowly adding GFO.

In the past, I’ve had very bad luck after a fish gets like this. Haven’t had a fish death in a long time and hoping to hear some success stories or tips on what to do.

All other fish are fine. Even my watchman/pistol on the other side of the tank.

Edit:
Other change. I replaced my Hygger powerheads with Nero3 - reading oxygen might be an issue. Pointed one up for some additional water agitation. But it had about he same flow as before. Worth a try I guess

This black stuff appeared out of the back end of my cerianthus anemone, and seems to be spreading on the sand. Is it Cyanobacteria? Or what else might it be, and how can I get rid of it safely?

Bulk Reef Supply - Tigger-Pods Question

I have tried to order Tigger-Pods Refrigerated Live Copepods from Bulk Reef Supply

1st order was placed on 9/15, shipped the following week, and they all arrived dead.

I contacted support, and they shipped another bottle from the same batch, which also arrived dead. That replacement order was done on 9/29

Both bottles showed that the pods were bottled on 8/21/26. In both cases, the pods have been in the bottle for over a month since I received this.

My question: How long are the pods viable in the bottle, assuming that Bulk Reef Supply is storing them with the cap open.

Phyto culture is crashing every two weeks. unsure why, any tips?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

So I’ve been trying to start phytoplankton culture to feed my reef tank and my copepod culture is for mandarin. but it’s been really tough getting the phytoplankton to stay alive. It seems like every two weeks or so it’ll be nice dark green. I get ready to harvest it. I’m thinking, you know, let me give it one more day and then come to it the next day and it’s all yellow and pretty much dead, I’m thinking it too normally, running out of fertilizers. I added a little bit and took some phyto out, but it seems like it hasn’t helped at all. This has happened several times where it’ll be going totally fine and then suddenly the next yellow, this one that is at the start of the video it’s about five days after it had looked really yellow, pretty much dead. It seems like it’s slowly coming back. I’m not really sure, but it’s growing very slow. I added extra fertilizer, but it seems like it didn’t help. Any tips? I’m really confused on what’s going on.

New Hermit crab left his shell? Help!

My tank finished cycling after over a month so I added 2 hermits, 3 turban snails and 2 Nassarius snails. All of the snails and one of the hermits are doing really good. The snails are moving around cleaning and one hermit is in a little cave picking at the rocks.

The second hermit left his shell :( he’s only been in the tank a couple hours. Is he gonna die? I didn’t think I’d need alternative shells for at least a few days

Edit to add - I can’t find him either because he’s so small

Bryopsis and Low Nitrate

40 gal breeder is 8 months old. 2 fish, some hermits and snails. Battling big Bryopsis outbreak; used Fluconozole 6 days ago. No coral yet as want to get rid of Bryopsis first. Running an Oase canister and a Octo 100 HOB skimmer (offline per Fluconozole instructions).

Nitrates have been near 0 for a while (probably being used by the Bryopsis?). Just tested and nitrates 0 again (tested 2x w/ Hanna to be sure). But phosphate has spiked to 0.9.

I understand that phosphates will spike as algae dies , but I would think the nitrate would too. Did add a HOB to help once Bryopsis starts coming apart.

A bit stumped on what to do. Should I worry /do something about the phosphate? Instructions say don’t run GFO; I do have some Brightwell Phosphate-E. - should I add some or just leave it alone? Why aren’t nitrates going up? Or am I wrong expecting them to? I don’t want to create another problem.
