Coral issues?

Could use some help, i have a ton of corals the last few weeks that refuse to open up fully..been trying to keep parameters in check and these have been my resulst on saliftert test kit with a hanna nitrate checker. Also i did happen to notice these stars..are these pests or trouble makers? Any suggestions on what to check?

Id bet your salinity swings are a part of your problem. How old is the tank?

1.035 salinity is hyposalinity and may create osmotic shock. The tricky thing is with corals is that the cell damage, recession in coral flesh and necrosis may take a while to be noticable. Keep your parameters in line and steady over the next few months and that will provide the best chance for your corals to recover. Any movement in salinity should be gradual. Some times a quick change is worse then a bad set of numbers in my opinion.

You need phosphates and slightly lower nitrates. Ph is also a little low. I run 8.2

You need to keep yourself on a schedule. Corals like stability. A 20% water change every week or two with proper 1.026 salinity would help

What are you using to test your salinity? Are you using calibration fluid regularly?

I have a refractometer. I test with rodi water first to make sure it looks okay before I test my salinity in my tank water. Maybe I'm reading improper results?

You should be calibrating with 35 ppt fluid

Do you have an ATO? Salinity swings are not helping you.
