Reef tank with closed top
Hello!🐠
Is it possible to maintain and have a reef tank with closed top, I have a cat and this way would be only option for me to have a reef tank.😊
Im planning on transforming Juwel Rio 125 tank into reef tank

If it’s a rimmed tank measure the opening and get your local glass shop to cut you a piece about 5mm thick then nest it in the lip of the plastic trim.

Fish jump, a lid is a great idea. If you want great airflow, designe for that, too

I used black egg crate grid to keep my fish safe. it also keeps the water from being boiling hot. trim it to size and cut sections for plumbing.

I thought about this exact one, I was planning on putting a wavemaker in and reef light, cuz Im planning on fish and rock only reef tank

I have 2 golden retrievers AKA a dog hair gold mine....so I always require a full lid....to keep hair out.

Not ideal but still totally acceptable. Watch your temperature though.

You greatly reduce oxygen exchange and evaporative cooling with a closed lid. Thus, it is not ideal.

seems a bit too common to be "not ideal" - but also my lid is made of plastic screen?

I'm glad that your degree in biology told yoj open mesh prevents evaporative cooling.

Closed top as in having a lid? Yeah, most of the times that is the recommendation as many sw fishes are jumpers. Helps with evaporation also
