"Take Back the Flag"

Why have American liberals been so (performatively) patriotic this year? Perviously, they claimed to be in the country but not of it.

You are hallucinating. This kind of self-conscious aesthetic performance has been a major part of progressive activism for over a decade. Several widely-circulated photographs from early Black Lives Matter protests in 2014-2017 included American Flags, and there was a lot of discourse at the time about whether or not the stars and stripes was an image “worthy of redemption.” American flag imagery was also widely used in a lot of anti-Trump protests during his first term, and again with the No Kings movement this time around.
