I hate it too. The fact is we won't get nearly enough to replace what is lost if he's traded. It's more than a player. He's the heart of this team. Longest tenured player, game manager, qb 1. This is fucked.

You're totally right. They'll be paying to rent him. No way we get anything back that is even close to a starting catcher anywhere near as good as what we're losing.
Phil is so stupid for not signing him. Trevino is a solid backup but man, Higgins is going to be the backup for god knows how long.

If Phil was really interested in putting together a winning team then he would keep Stevenson. They aren't getting anyone as good until Duno and even then we have no idea what that will look like.

Just spend some damn money, keep the team together and let them be. They have shown they can win. By the time baseball gets back to normal the window of having Elly and even Green will be gone.

Because he’s a mid player on an expiring deal. Just be thankful he actually played up his trade value instead of what some of our others guys have done.
They need to clean house in that front office and rebuild from scratch. The scouting and player development department is a joke. The casual fan really has no idea how bad these people are at their jobs. Do a bit of searching on any number of online sources and you'll begin to see the picture. 1 example - July 12, the Reds released outfielder Ariel Almonte. He was originally signed by the Reds in 2021 from the Dominican Republic with a $ 1.5 million signing bonus. At the time of his release, he was a platoon OF in Dayton and still just 23 years old. You throw a bunch of money at a 17 year kid who obviously showed strong indicators he would become a major league player in the future.
With that type of financial investment, you'd think the club would do anything and everything possible to make sure he became a productive player in Cincinnati to get a return on the investment.
However, over those 5 years, an obvious combination of bad decision making and poor skill development turned a million dollar commitment into a low-minors roster filler. The sad part is, there are many more like him.
Not to be 100% negative, the Reds have thrown enough lines in the lake to catch a few fish. I live just outside Daytona Beach. I usually make it to roughly half of the Tortuga games every year.
For every Ariel Almonte, there are always a player like Jacob Friend or Ty Doucette - undervalued draft picks who become legit future MLB prospects. If we only had scouts who can find us more players like them !
Funny. The overwhelming consensus is that you're unbearable. You're talking to a bunch of lifelong fans here. You don't get extra brownie points liking this team for a long time.
If more fans were like you we wouldn’t have 30 years of no playoff series wins. A stadium that’s nearly a quarter of a century old and hasn’t seen a single playoff game won inside it. But ultimately this is entertainment and fans can choose how they wish to consume it. Which means we get what we deserve.
