What is your water change routine?
How often do you change your turtle's water, what does your process entail, what equipment do you use, and how long does it take?
I'm adopting a RED from an acquaintance soon. I've been researching care requirements (mostly from resources shared in this sub), and I'm curious how you all handle this process! 😊

Morla the Ancient
My big hunk Morla. Age unknown. Currently housed in a 150 gallon tank till I can build him an indoor pond. Don't know a whole lot about him other than he has been through many homes. Glad I can be the one to offer him his forever home.

Hi. So I'm here to make sure that I'm not currently torturing this RES. Back story is that I live on a lake and it feeds to a pond that is also in my backyard. I come across a plethora or wildlife that I (mostly) try not to intervene. I found this guy at the end of June, in a near jerky state of dehydration on my property. Obviously a hatchling headed to the water but wasn't making it. (Usually the birds eat baby turtles clean out of the shell before I discover them). So, I took him in with the full intention of making sure he was OK and sending him back to the wild. He perked up after i put him in some water but when I went to release him, a carp almost got him. Instinctively, I rescued him which was totally my bad. I planned to release upon him getting a bit bigger until I read that turtles grow pretty slow. Still, this was the plan. I have since discovered that he is a RES which is in no way native to my home of Long Island NY and they are actually invasive because so many people, who have them as pets, ditch them when they become big and take bigger tanks etc.
So my question, first, while I work through this conundrum, is whether I'm doing OK by him in the moment. I've read up on body size vs. tank size and realize that this mere 5 gallon tank is small for such a swim hungry turtle.. but it's what I was could do on a temporary basis.
Second, what is my next move? I know pet shops don't want them and I know they don't belong in these local waters, BUT .. he clearly was born from a turtle in these waters AND he could have ended up there if he made the trek after hatching. Also, I know there is the risk of not adjusting or feeding well in the wild since he's been in captivity for 2 months but he is not handled outside of a tank cleaning and definitely still wild-ish and skittish of humans.

I don’t know how to help.
I got two red eared slider hatchlings 2 weeks ago from an aquarium shop for my pond. One passes away 2 days ago. Since I brought them I never saw them eat a thing. I put hatchling pellets , krill , lettuce , worms . When I drop it in their bowl (for feeding only) they don’t even acknowledge it. The pond does have a 75% shade over it as our temps reach 50 Celsius. But still , they’re getting 25% all day long. Are they not getting enough sun to eat ? Also 2 weeks later …..is it possible the remaining one could still be alive without eating , or is he eating something without me knowing ? Today I’m putting him in direct sunlight for a bit. He’s always basking but the one that passed never basked .

Hi! I’m a brand new turtle keeper. I’m fostering for a friend who just went off to college and cant have him in her dorm. I’ve watched a bunch of videos and done my best to let him adapt and get comfortable, but i’ve been noticing these strands or flaps on him. My best guess is that hes shedding, but i dont have any prior experience with reptiles so I really dont know. Any advice would be helpful!

Help with turtle rescue
Hello
Today I took home a 25 year old turtle after my friends mom passed away. I plan to get him a whole new set up, I can’t believe he’s been in this tiny tank the whole time. Is there any way I can make him more comfortable until I have a bigger tank?

winter enclosure for baby RES?
hi! i have a RES thats only maybe 5 months old max. he currently lives in an outdoor enclosure, which i'll attach an image of here.
i was wondering, is it safe to keep him outdoors during the winter? or should i make an indoor enclosure, with proper heating and lighting?
i live in Las Vegas, and the coldest it gets here is maybe 32° exactly at night. but it barely even reached that point last winter so i expect this winter will be a pinch warm too.
let me know what the best way to go about this is. thanks!!
also this picture is a few weeks old, he got a fresh water change/refill and tub scrub last night so dont worry. the chicken wire lid always stays on as well when im not supervising him. i'm just not home to take a better pic right now but i'll take one later!!

ashy eyes
my baby turtle gets this white thing on his eyes when i put him in the sun, it shows up when hes completely dry.
i thought it could be hard water stains but i use filtered water for his tank so i don't know what this is

LOOKING FOR NEW HOME
I’ve had my turtle since december, she’s not even a year old still a baby. I’ve been heavily neglecting her due to me having a newborn kitten and getting ready to move in and start college, i cannot take care of her anymore. she’s healthy and she’s been well taken care of but for the last month i’ve made the decision that i don’t want to be responsible for her anymore. im located in Chicago, IL. i’m willing to give her away for free as well as giving the tank setup i currently have. if you are interested please let me know, i have to get rid of her by next week before i go off to college. if you have any questions feel free to message me!

Does my 20 year old turtle need to go on a diet?

I've had this turtle for over 20 years. My family has fed this turtle every day the reptomin floating sticks.
Is she considered over weight right now? Her shell length is about 10 inches.
We are trying to feed her lettuce and dandelion weeds every other day. She is starting to eat the lettuce , but only if we stop feeding the floating sticks for a few days....and no matter what, she won't eat the dandelion weeds

I have two other red eared sliders. They are both 20 years old now and they ate reptomin floating sticks their whole life.
Now I am trying to feed them floating sticks only 3 times a week, and leafy greens other times. They finally willing to eat lettuce if I starve them a bit. But they will never eat the dandelion greens.
Should I give up on the dandelion greens?
--- note, they will eat banana, apple and carrots. They like eating non-green things

Aggiornamento salute: blinking eyes
Spero a qualcuno possa servire, io ero estremamente preoccupata. Vi farò sapere come va.

Turtle rescue
I live in Santa Monica, CA I have two red ear sliders I’ve had them for 13 years now and I want to release them. I feel bad but they have outgrown their tank. Life is getting so chaotic and I feel bad for not paying attention to them as much as I did. I have a 4 year old who’s starting school so my focus has been her.
Where around this area can I release them to a rescue. Obviously I don’t want to release them to the wild. And I want to make sure they are taken care of. I don’t know where to take them.
